Re: [MBZ] OT: Electritronics Question
I would look for a bad cap in the power supply. Bad filter cap would sound truly nasty in some way, but wouldn't keep it from working altogether. An amp like that is basically two sections, the preamp (before the volume control) and the power amp. If there is a patch loop or a "line out", check those for noise. Certainly not the transformer. Maybe the filter section of the power supply. Re: [MBZ] 124 rear axel link replacement
I finally got to work on the rear links today - thought I was going to do both sides in one day. Ended up only getting two links on one side replaced. I couldn't get the nut loose on the frame side of the torque rod - could only round it off, then I couldn't get the ball joint end of the tie rod off the wheel carrier. My ball joint press is too big to fit in there, and the pickle fork is so long that I only had four inches to swing a hammer. I tried the flame wrench on the torque link nut - it only made the rubber smoke, no other effect. These two didn't seem to be all that bad, so I boloted them back in place. I did find that I had to remove the brake disk to bend the backing plate/dust shield enough to get the bolt holding the wheel carrier end of the Torque strut out - I reversed the bolt when I put that end back together - MUCH easier! The new bolts (which I used, even with the old links) have triple-square sockets instead of hex heads - it would have been next to imposible to tighten it in the original orientation. Make sure that the wall ground is good, then check all the other grounds on the guitar, jack plate, pickups, bridge, etc. Does the hum go away if the Bass is unplugged from the amp? Or does the hum reduce once you touch a metal part of the guitar, including the strings? Good luck.
