BTW the raingutter trim is not that hard and requires no extra special

I've done this for paint prep as well...

As for the rain gutter trim, I have fabricated the special tool outlined in

recommend people take it off. In my case, it had been removed so the car could
be painted, and putting the new trim on was a real PITA, not to mention an
opportunity to mess up the new paint job.

Then I'll explain to this crazy Frenchman that he needs to specify a drop

I do not recall. All I remember is having to fabricate a driver out
of hardwood that was used to hammer the trim on to the drip rail. The
black rubber part was separate from the anodized aluminum and snapped
on to it after the trim was secured to the drip rail.

It is possible the information on the tool was in the service manual.

[MBZ] '91 300E starting

2010-07-17 Thread OK Don
The 300E has been getting slightly harder to start lately. It fires almost
immediately, then stumbles or dies, I keep cranking for another 2 or so
seconds, then it catches and runs fine.

I first thought it could be low fuel pressure, so waited after turning on
the key, like I do in a Diesel, but this has no effect. I don;t know if it
does this when hot or not, I only get in and drive half an hour, let it sit
for the day, then drive back. Guess I need to test this aspect.

Is this likely to be a clogged cold-start injector?

Check the condition of the idle control valve hoses -- they crack and
give idle and warm start problems.

More likley that a bad fuel pump or leaking accumulator. You can
test those, too, but you need a pressure gauge set to do it right.

[MBZ] 190D disassembly

2010-07-17 Thread Curt Raymond
With the buyer coming today (supposedly) I wanted to get the dash and console
out as he wanted them but I want to keep the radio.
To get the dash out I managed to break the dash cap (crap!) as it was glued on
one corner really really well and I put a screwdriver (that I was moving the
glue with) right through it.
Then I couldn't get the steering wheel bolt out. Finally I decided to weld a
nut onto it and turn that since I'd stripped the allen hole some. I couldn't
get the nut welded on well enough so I put a smaller Allen socket into the hole
and WELDED(!) that on. I've never welded so much in one spot before but I
needed to ensure penetration. Then I LEANED into the wrench and out it came
BENDING the socket... Boy I want to tell you there was some pressure involved
there!

Just now I realized that while I was welding I forgot to take off my Blackberry
and managed to get a very small piece of hot slag right through the screen's
outer covering. Doesn't seem to have damaged the screen though. Tough phone.

In that tear down you'll see how to remove the buttons

2010-07-17 Thread LarryT

Thank you Sir -
And the W124? Screws I thinks. Soon I'll have to make my way to the
garage to check it out -

I had my knee replaced last year - all was well for 12 months. Had the 1
year check up and within 2 weeks failure started - the adhesive has failed
or so we think - looks like I'm becoming bowlegged on one side. )I bet I
look HOT!)

So I need to stay off of it - plus, my other foot had a blister that refuses
to heal. To make things even better, I slipped on the ceramic tile in our
bathroom and my toe (near the blister) was split on the cabinet - and the
blister was shaved by the bottom of the cabinet.

The fun never stops. I'm supposed to get a new knee in Aug.
So I must stay in bed as much as possible until surgery ---

You'll have to remove the pushbutton
module and pull the buttons off.

Give me a few minutes and I'll upload some
pictures to
 my
web site. I've documented the complete
RR of a
pushbutton unit for the later (horizontal)
ACC
 system.

In that tear down you'll see how to remove
the buttons
 and
where the lamps are located. Might as
well buy a
 whole
set since you'll be in there. That's
what I always
  did...

More in a few, as I am updating my web site
as it is
 right
now. Good timing on your part!

Subject: [MBZ] Strange Craigslist buyer

So I finally had somebody seriously interested in my 190D engine. I spoke to
him on the phone and he sent a deposit and everything...

Then the weird starts. He's coming to get it with his friend's truck and
doesn't want to scratch the bed up so he wants me to drive 45 minutes from
my house to a place with a forklift. Ooooky, well I'm not doin' that for
free... He works out a price to placate me which is fine I guess. So I call
the place today for directions (so I can get there tomorrow) and fortunately
leave my number for the guy who will be helping us who calls me back because
he doesn't know whats going on. They're not open on Saturday, the dude
buying the engine was supposed to get back to him on how we were going to
work this and suddenly it occurs to me that what has happened is the dude
has tried to push them into being open on a Saturday which they don't do and
just assumed they'd do it...

So I'm pissed, I call him and he doesn't answer so I leave voicemail and I
email him. He emails me You will need to take the engine there Monday and
leave it for me like I've got nothing better to do Monday than drive 45
minutes in the opposite direction from where I work...

Thats when it occurs to me, whats to stop him from writing me a bad check or
something for payment? He hasn't explained how he's going to pay for it at
this point...

Anyway his deposit goes in the mail back to him tomorrow, washing my hands
of this weirdo.

If he shows up with cash I'll still sell him an engine but otherwise no.

My old '92 300D had r134 from the factory. No issues that I know of!

OK - I have a CIS pressure guage from my M117 days, I hope I have the proper
adapters.

Check the condition of the idle control valve hoses -- they crack and give

More likley that a bad fuel pump or leaking accumulator. You can test
those, too, but you need a pressure gauge set to do it right.

Sounds like you might as well get the other foot replaced while you're in
for the knee ;-)

Hope it all works out OK this time.

And the W124? Screws I thinks. Soon I'll have to make my way to the
garage to check it out -

I had my knee replaced last year - all was well for 12 months. Had the 1
year check up and within 2 weeks failure started - the adhesive has failed
or so we think - looks like I'm becoming bowlegged on one side. )I bet I
 look HOT!)

So I need to stay off of it - plus, my other foot had a blister that
refuses to heal. To make things even better, I slipped on the ceramic tile
in our bathroom and my toe (near the blister) was split on the cabinet - and
the blister was shaved by the bottom of the cabinet.

The fun never stops. I'm supposed to get a new knee in Aug.
So I must stay in bed as much as possible until surgery ---
