Kevin,

I give you my greatest respect. As a young man I was apprenticed to a
blacksmith who was one of the best in the area, perhaps in the country, who
was blind since age 16. The man was a genius with hot metal. He taught me
even how to temper and weld from a forge to anvil. To this day, I'm still
not sure exactly how he did some things. Under his leadership I learned
many things about how to survive what ever life gives you also.

Sounds to me, you are that kind of fellow.

It's a pleasure to meet you, even if only by computer.

Re: [MBZ] HP TouchPad Dual Boot

2012-03-02 Thread Dan Penoff
Well, as I may have mentioned earlier, I will be swapping the 16GB TouchPad for
a 32GB model next week, which I will promptly jailbreak.

Then the 16GB one will go to eBay to be purchased for a stupid price (I can't
believe what people are paying for these used!)

I like the dual boot capabilities. Since I have no experience with either OS at
this point I am trying to use both and decide which will become the permanent
one.

Wifi is a little sketchy still, and battery consumption is high. These are
known issues, so I expect them to be dealt with in future beta releases. The
foundation is good, however. My only real complaint is with the wifi being
wonky at this point.

There are lots of reports in this regard, do I am sure it will get fixed
shortly.

As for sound quality, I am going out on a limb and say you would probably have
better luck getting the sound you want with an old phonograph set with tubes.
This thing will be using all digital goofiness and will not capture with the
warmth you may remember. Will also take a really good sound card to be able to
capture, so having an ADC in line might not hurt.

I would think it would be better to run it through your
turntable/receiver/soundcard to Audacity, where you set the recording
parameters and save an original file, then export it to whatever format
you want. If you want an mp3 for a player, you can get that, if you
want something better to burn to a CD you can get that, or something
better to play back from the computer. Also those all-in-one things
probably have pretty cheap components, not that it would probably make a
lot of difference in generating an mp3...

Mobil 1 in the crankcase. We had it out for a few hours today around town.
We got it up to almost 80 to clean it out before doing the emissions
testing and registration. It passed! Now, I'm going to get some fuel
filters and Diesel Purge, and try to find another set of valve adjustment

Ah, yes, but on my email client your original first phrase read,

  I generally use 1/4 to 4 decimals

where it was the single character symbol for 1/4, not the symbol for pi
you apparently used.

No wonder I did not understand it.

ok that is good to know. the º seemed to work
across platforms, so I hoped the pi symbol would
too. No wonder it was confusing.

It's not necessarily _platform_ dependent, it's how a particular
program handles the extended ASCII or unicode set.

My email client is not so good with them. Your degrees symbol
shows up as as superscript O - but with an underscore.

I also saw 1/4 when you thought you were using the symbol for
pi.
