Buy it, order a head gasket kit from MB of Northlake, (don't forget the head

have access to a cylinder gauge. If there are any signs of damage to cylinder

fresh head gasket so you have no worries of hydrolocking cylinder #1 from an oil

You have live hydraulics on your Super M.  Call up all states ag
parts or colfax tractor parts or whoever and buy a used 3 pt
attachment for your M.  The you can  put a 7 to 8' mower behind on
the 3 pt.  Even a new Three point and a new mower are way less money
than a new 20 hp japanese tractor.  You'd probably have enough money
left over for a loader.

Low boy is a good machine but that big a belly mower is no good for
me. Our farm is much too rocky and bumpy for such a thing. Its bad
enough mowing with a 42 deck on a the lawnmower. A 3pt bush hog is
what I really need. Well that and a tractor with a 3pt hitch.
-Curt

Cub or Cub lowboy are real tractors, as are all the diesel japanese tractors.

I was thinking about this on the way to work today.
IIRC Dimitri blocked the thermostat open and the overheating stopped but he
found bubbles in the coolant.A cracked head or block would neatly explain why
it would randomly overheat. An air bubble (from combustion gasses) pressed up
against the thermostat would prevent it from opening...
He's got a replacement head sourced from a ChowdaQ participant, I don't know
what his current plans are.

In each case, I strap all 4 barrels together with two ea. two inch wide

Could leave an older truck out there (have done so in the past) so that

with people so the Supercrew is a good vehicle for the purpose.
Leaving an older truck out there also means paying the licence and
insurance on it so it does not save us much unless we want to run back

think of the extra fuel as a life insurance premium.

Reminds me of the first time I changed the oil in my new to me 1979 1/2 Chevy
Citation. Penzoil filter (from Penzoil oil change franchise) was a real bear to
unscrew, like it was seriously overtorqued. (the original owner lived in Lansing
and worked in a GM plant in Detroit, so it couldn't have been on the car very
long, IIRC he changed oil every 3000 miles)

Left a long trail of oil on the concrete backing the car out of the garage.
Checked the old oil filter, no seal on it. Took off the new filter, it had a
seal on it and another one loose between block and filter.

That was 30 years ago. I still carefully inspect every old spin-on filter before
putting the new one on the engine. IIRC I've had the seal stick to the block one
other time in my life, also from a filter that was on the car when I bought it.

I suspect it happens when you don't oil the seal before installing the filter.

[MBZ] 124 Steering Wheel Shakes

2015-05-29 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
'87 300TD, 124.193, 343k miles. Help me with some diagnosis ideas please.
At highway speed, sometimes the steering wheel will shake, most of the time
it will not. Today it would shake during a turn at highway speed, and
turning left or right would make it shake. Occasionally, on the first
acceleration to highway speed, once I get above 50 mph or so, it will shake
while going straight, and then stop after 5 - 10 seconds. After a shaking
episode, the car is fine for the rest of the day.

A few weeks ago I had the car aligned. I've just installed a set of used
tires on the front axle; these were the best two taken off my '95 sedan a
couple weeks ago.

Paid extra for Road Force balancing:

http://www.gsp9700.com/search/findgsp9700.cfm

Most of the front-end components are fairly new and either OE from MB or
Rusty parts. Struts, lower control arm inner bushings, ball joints,
idler arm bushings. I'm not sure about the steering damper. The wheel
bearings were checked and packed with fresh grease about 7 years / 40k
miles ago.

The evil white overlords are now being condemned for gentrifying the formerly

african american population there is below 15%. Property values are rising,
tax base is increasing with more prosperous businesses moving in, and crime is
dropping significantly. The area is very multi ethnic, not white dominated,
but the caucasian folk are the white devils for bringing their liberal values

since real racism was rampant. No more black republican values predominate.

Article in the morning paper about the anti-shell kayak protesters being too
young and not even native, sucking the gay mayor (yes he is homosexual) into a
political morass that is now pitting the native blue collar port workers
against the liberal tech elite outsiders into an economically damaging
political agenda circus. FYI, the african americans do not use kayaks, but do
hold jobs at the port.

Yes, over the last ten years technology has been used to give us more efficient

As a friend and I were discussing last week, fuel economy isn't everything. His
2013 Sentra CVT routinely hits 40mpg (5.9L/100kM). My 1997 S420 doesn't use
twice as much gas, but with the higher cost of premium gas my fuel cost is about
double.

However, my cost of car payment plus insurance is about $15 a day less than his,
mainly because I haven't had a mortgage on a car in over 20 years.
This makes it substantially cheaper to own and drive a rather huge MBZ than a
subcompact Nissan.

How much did it cost to trade the 2002 Frod for the 2013?

I would say it is.
The southern part of the trip might be similar but once you get close to

You should have about 90 miles of nice scenary before Kenora and another
30 miles or so west of Kenora before you start getting into the flatter

The by-pass around Kenora is fairly scenic but I would recommend going

Bees are interesting critters.
A man from a small town who had contracted leukemia was sent home to die after
all treatments failed at the Med School Hospital.
He had a few hives, accidentally knocked one over, and was taken back to the
Med School Hospital with multiple life threatening bites.
He survived, and to the doctors amazement, all signs of the leukemia were gone.
He was sent home in total remission and resumed his normal life.
I've often wondered if the leukemia ever returned, but as far as I know he was
never again admitted to the hospital.

We had a camper trailer that leaked and was not worth the effort to
repair properly.
We stripped it to the frame and I have the frame and running gear and am
considering making it into a flat bed trailer.
I do not think it heavy duty enough to haul a car. It might be beefed up
enough if one truly wanted to do so but it would take some steel and
some welding.
It would be ok for hauling quads or snow mobiles or lumber etc but I
would not wish to haul any sort of car on it.

The frame rails are not too bad but the cross members are very light.

Yes, over the last ten years technology has been used to give us more
 efficient
 cars than ever before.

As a friend and I were discussing last week, fuel economy isn't everything.
 His
 2013 Sentra CVT routinely hits 40mpg (5.9L/100kM). My 1997 S420 doesn't use
twice as much gas, but with the higher cost of premium gas my fuel cost is
 about
 double.

However, my cost of car payment plus insurance is about $15 a day less than
 his,
mainly because I haven't had a mortgage on a car in over 20 years.
This makes it substantially cheaper to own and drive a rather huge MBZ than a
 subcompact Nissan.

How much did it cost to trade the 2002 Frod for the 2013?

Re: [MBZ] Pumping diesel

2015-05-29 Thread Dave via Mercedes
The subject seems to have wandered, imagine that :-)
I did some years in the marine industry...
Your standard 5 lug trailer hub/axle uses a 1 1/16 X 1 3/8 spindle and the GVW
on that should be 3500# per axle. In Wa. State you will need brakes on both
axles if your GVW is over 3000#, these also use a 10 brake drum and backing
plate set. Bearings, axles, hubs, drums and backing plates were all
standardized in the '80s so parts are not much of a problem.
If you find an older trailer you might find the 6 lug hub axle combo and those
are around 6000# GVW for each axle but probably not.
Send me a message if you need parts once you find a trailer, I still do IT work
for a certain marine shop and am long time friends with the owners.
