Re: [MBZ] Flakey W123 Headlight Switch

Switches rarely go bad, I think used is the best value.

_Second_-best value. Best value is a shot of Deoxit right
in the gizzard, that works. (A shot that doesn't work is
no value at all.)

Still, removing all those screws is a giant PITA, I'd always
opt for the cleaner first. (Later cars use a connector on
the back of the switch.) Especially since the switch is
always 'hot', so you really need to disconnect the battery,
with all the attendant pleasantness that goes with that.

A fellow student recently had a sinking break pedal, but his was due to a

[MBZ] Electrical Relay guide

2015-08-01 Thread LarryT via Mercedes

I found this when looking for info on 12v Relays:
http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html

All of the info is helpful but the part I thought the owners of older
cars might benefit from is down toward the bottom. It tells how to add
a buzzer using a simple relay wired to the front door light switch so a
warning can be added if you leaves the lights on. Also, a relay can be
added to add fog lights to the main headlight circuit as well as a few
other ideas.

Along with the above there's info on testing relays and the internal
design of relays so the correct replacement can be found if need be.

I did the press and hold brake pedal test several times, engine running,
and then moved the car and looked for brake fluid (found none) and also
watched the reservoir level (it didn't seem to drop).

Current master cylinder is a replacement (aftermarket, no identifying marks
that I can find) which I installed about 4 years / 80k miles ago.

Searched around a bit today, settled on an FTE MC from Autohaus AZ, $144.
Northlake dealership wants about $180 for a new part.

I was considering rebuilding the MC because it is relatively young and the
cylinder may be fine, but can't find a source on-line for the parts. FTE
may offer a kit, but when I checked to find no identifying marks on mine
and read a few forum posts on rebuilding brake MC, I've decided to get the
FTE MC which may be rebuildable in the future, but probably will last the
life of the car and not need rebuilding.

It depends. All you have said is had to pump the brakes to
stop the car - which not specific enough. The subject line
says sinking - and if that's the case, it's probably the
master cylinder.

If the pedal sinks when applying light pressure, there is
either a hole or fluid is leaking past the master cylinder
piston seals. If the fluid level isn't low, then it must be
the master cylinder. Often - but not always - a fast, hard
press on the brake pedal will still seal and the brakes will
work fine.

If the pedal is firm under light or heavy pressure, but has
to be pumped a couple times before the brake pressure builds,
it could be a wheel cylinder that is being retracted too
far. Failing wheel bearings can cause excess wheel wobble
that causes the brake pistons to be pushed back too much. A
loose caliper can also cause similar symptoms.

2015-08-01 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
https://ca.news.yahoo.com/texas-man-shoots-armadillo-gets-hit-face-bullet-214656503.html

DALLAS (Reuters) - An East Texas man was wounded after he fired a gun at an
armadillo in his yard and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in his
face, the county sheriff said on Friday.

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe said the man, who was not identified, went
outside his home in Marietta, southwest of Texarkana, at around 3 a.m. on
Thursday morning. He spotted the armadillo on his property and opened fire.

His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and
shot three times at the armadillo, Rowe said.

The animal's hard shell deflected at least one of three bullets, which then
struck the man's jaw, he said.

The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where his jaw was wired shut,
according to Rowe.

The status of the animal is unknown.

We didn't find the armadillo, the sheriff said.
