Sounds like a good deal if you can swap that other engine in it, pull
all the good bits off the one that had the fire and knacker it.  Pull
the top-end good parts off the locked engine too so you have spares.

Some work but seems like you might have a nice car out of it.

I have the 91 SDL that has the updated rod engine but the wiring under

bolts all the way down. Wow.  I was able to unbolt it from the car with
a jack under it and was able to drop it down and push it forward enough
to get the bolts off without pulling the axles.  Removed the cover
cleaned it up and applied the sealant and torqued them down properly
this time.  Got it reinstalled, slammed the drive shaft back in, filled
the diff with oil and job done.  Drive it up the street and problem
solve.  It is way more quite and smooth.  Seems to have more power too,

Re: [MBZ] Rear abs sensor removal w124 wagon

2019-09-15 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
I think the seat backs unbolt from the center pivot where they join, and
then just lift out. From there, getting the carpet out should be
straightforward. May need to take the wheel arch covers loose also, and the
floor panel behind the seat in the cargo area. Quite a lot of hoopla for a
single sensor!

Everyone says I need to take the driveshaft loose near the carrier to
remove the driveshaft, in order to get the diff out. Not sure if I have the
41mm and 46mm wrenches on hand...adding to list.

Re: [MBZ] Rear abs sensor removal w124 wagon

2019-09-15 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Ahh, now I understand. I didn't have to deal with that because I left the
subframe in place.

I removed The White Whale carpet years ago to prevent mold growth under the
carpet and be able to de-water after each rain.

I know that the bottom seat cushions come out very easily, there is a catch to
release. I suspect I just pulled the carpet out from under the coverings on
the wheel wells etc, don't really remember. There may be plastic pins at the
edges of the carpet, similar to those under the door sills, but I cannot
recall. I'll bet that the pins would give way before the carpet would tear, do
maybe you can start at one corner and pull until you find either a broken pin
or torn carpet, and then decide how to proceed?

Another heretic idea: cut an X in the carpet over the hole, then close that up
with carpet thread or carpet tape when you're done.

Re: [MBZ] Rear abs sensor removal w124 wagon

2019-09-15 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Thanks Max.

I could take the sensor out of the old diff, but it wouldnt fit through the
metal ring that the wire passes through in the subframe. So I would have to
cut the wire.

I think the protocol is to unplug it under the seat and feed the free end
down through the floor.

I am putting a different diff in; one hopes its abs sensor wire has the
same plug that this one does on the end.
