My Dad, a GM VP that got program cars every six months, immediately moved to
Chryslers in 1970 when he left General Motors. Why I have no idea, but…

His first car after he left GM was a 1969 Dodge Monaco. Damned thing had more
chrome on it than I had ever seen before in my life. Funky radio with rollers
instead of knobs. Just a lot of weird design stuff that I recall. Anyway, he
took care of that car like it was his fourth child (I had two siblings.) I
believe he drove it until the mid to late 70s, and when he sold it he was so
proud that it had 270k on the clock. I recall it looking beautiful the day he
sold it. It was Zeibarted so it never rusted anywhere that I recall.

The car he bought to replace it?

1977 Chrysler Cordoba with Corinthian leather. Silver with a red landau top.

And incidentally, this varies. Our Honda for example must be checked
with the transmission hot, engine off. You just have to read the manual
for each car and do what the manufacturer says.

Worse is our Volvo which has no dipstick. Transmission fluid level is
set by overfilling, then connecting a scan tool that can read
transmission temperature, and at a specific temperature, with engine
running, removing a plug and letting the fluid drain down to the proper
level. It's actually a little standpipe internally. I guess that's more
accurate, but definitely not as convenient.

Toyota is a big player in Trophy truck racing. Big output engines, huge travel

I didn't like the Tacoma when we drove them before buying our Dodge. The swiss

Dad had a few stories about stuff that happened in GM plants, but it wasn’t
first hand so it’s tough to know if it was true or just anecdotal.

I once worked with an older guy in the 80s who worked on the line at Studebaker
before they shut down. He told stories of how after it was announced that they
were closing there were guys on the line who were taking dumps in the doors
before they finished them.

Re: [MBZ] Toyota Hilux?

2019-10-16 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
AH - the dealer. Last time I took the F150 to the dealer for a recall
(reprogramming the shift down computer, the second time), the techs told me
I needed new brakes REAL soon. I said thank you, drove home, pulled two
wheels and measured the pads - they were barely worn from new specs. The
time before that, another recall visit, they told me that the battery was
almost dead and needed to be replaced before it stranded me somewhere. That
I partly believed because the truck sits most of the time - I drive it on
average every 10 days or so - and I had not been putting it on a charger. I
now use batteryminder

on it every time after I drive it - the six year old battery is still doing
fine.
So - I would ALWAYS at least get a second opinion on any service/repair
offered by the dealer.

I don't think Rotella or any mainstream oil has high enough zinc any
more for old engines. They have all been reformulated for modern
engines.

Maybe look Penn or racing oils.

Or a ZDDP additive.

Interesting. When I had my 2013 F150 transmission re-programmed for the
2nd time back in July, they told me I was due for brakes too. I really
should have a look and see if they are getting worn. I have driven
another 5K miles since and do not hear any brake noises so can't be too
bad yet, but I am about to put the winter tires on so will have a look then.
