Further arguments on another of their pages,

https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/podcast-534-how-navigation-makes-us-human/

relate to navigation, one of the things involved when one drives one's
self, and how doing it manually exercises and develops the hippocampus,
which

is not just where the knowledge of space where we build spatial
representations is kept. It’s also where we have what’s called
episodic memory, which is our recall of all the events of the past
that we remember. It’s kind of the locus of our autobiography. We
don’t really know which came first, memory or these so called
cognitive maps in the brain.

They go on to talk about how not using one's hippocampus likely
contributes to memory problems.

2020-09-24 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Listen to the podcast. The problem with self driving cars is that they are
incompatible with human piloted cars. I LIKE driving, I go places a self
driving car won't go. I like going to those places.
What happens when your self driving car won't take you somewhere because that
destination violates the terms of service for the software in the car? What
about if it won't go to the hospital because "conditions are too dangerous" in
a snowstorm?
The loss of freedom to "get that time back" isn't worth the trade.
Lets face it the world is full of "labor saving devices" but people spend a ton
of time complaining they don't have any time. It makes more sense to try to
enjoy the things you do, like driving, than try to replace them.

I don't believe the bad 3.5L went into any W163, and I don't think the
good 3.7L went into any W164.

Insanity.  Let the forests burn, releasing more carbon dioxide and other very
toxic pollution in a week than all those cars in a year or more, and banish
gasoline engines instead.  Ignore that your state is burning down around your
ears, but find a boogey man that you can attack to signal your virtue.

So will all the firefighting equipment be battery powered, hydrogen powered, or
use unicorn farts?  Maybe all the trees will be burned down by then, so no more
firefighting equipment will be needed?

Why not ban retail sales of gasoline and diesel?

Then the carbon emissions from Molotov cocktails won't be starting any

Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has made urgent calls this year for sweeping actions to
curb carbon emissions as massive wildfires have devastated the West Coast,
signed an order Wednesday aimed at helping to phase out combustion vehicles in
the nation’s most populous state. The measure targets ending the sale of new
gasoline- and diesel-powered passenger cars in California by 2035. The
Democratic governor said transitioning to zero-emissions vehicles would
significantly reduce the state’s greenhouse gas output, about half of which
comes from transportation. Currently, less than 10% of all new vehicle sales in
the state are electric. A leading auto-manufacturing lobbying group voiced
support for expanding electric offerings but called for more consumer
incentives and infrastructure investments to boost demand.

The older pumps were designed to shut down and lock out if they ran too long
(e.g. a leak) so they wouldn't burn out or run down the battery. Common leak
points are the diaphragms in the pods the soft rubber Ts and Xs that connect
the hard tubes, and the vacuum reservoir. Recommend you research your pump to
see if it has a reset and check fuses.
