Yes rear windows for CD are unique to them  & 123  CE. I lucked out when
tree came down on mine in Blizzard & got used one out of a CE my indy had
out back. Rear defrost wires even worked.

[MBZ] Problems with our '93 300D

On the 35 mile trip to church this morning, we were driving at 75 mph when
suddenly the engine started running rough and a big cloud of white smoke
came out of the exahust (right into the front of the semi which was
tailgating us). After a couple of seconds the engine started running
normally and the smoke stopped. I checked the oil pressure (pegged) and
the temperature (85 C) and saw and heard everything was OK, so I kept on
driving.

Leaving church, we had a little problem backing up, which I attributed to
the rear wheel parking brakes acting up as they have done in the past.

We went to the nearby supermarket and everything seemed normal. I found
there was a long line to get into the building (yes, again!), so we left
and drove east. We got off the Interstate at Edgewood and stopped at the
supermarket there. Interestingly, there was no line at all and not even
someone watching the front door. I got some of the items we needed, went
back to the car, put them into the trunk, and proceeded to leave --
except the car would not move backward. It was OK going forward, however.

I left the engine idling and checked the transmission fluid level. It
seemed to be high, though I am not satisfied I'm getting the right level
indication when I check ATF levels. I did check the level a couple of
months ago and recall it was OK then.

After getting some help pushing the car out of the parking space (up a
slight incline) we were on our way toward the Interstate onramp. We
accelerated up the ramp and got on the roadway just as the engine ran
rough for a few seconds and then ran normally. I looked back and saw a
large cloud of a little white, but mostly black smoke.

The car ran fine the rest of the way home (15 miles), shifting through
all of the forward gears as it was supposed to. I was even able to get it
positioned so it would roll backwards down the incline from our front gate
to our building, so it's ready to go tomorrow -- we need to drive to our
dentist (56 miles) to have the recurrent infection in Shirley's jaw
looked at.

So, does anyone have any idea what's going on with the car?
Any idea if we will be OK driving to Albuquerque tomorrow?

that if you enter you must stay for 14 days and quarantine. I feared on the way

Got that 79 CD loaded up. I think I paid too much at $1200 but the body is very 
clean and completely rust free. The supposedly good engine that was pulled out 
is loaded in the truck. Some of the accessories are off and looks like the 
front pulley was removed as it has new bolts holding it on. Interior is nice 
but dash is cracked. One thing I failed to notice but did after I got back to 
the hotel was the cracked rear window. Crap. I think I have heard the coupe 
window is different and hard to find. For that fact I say I paid too much. Also 
had a respray at some point in the past and has started peeling in some spots.

I believe the M177 tensioner is oil pressure only, which is why the 380 tends 
to break chains.  Lots of slap on start-up, and the plastic guide has a piece 
that is easily snapped off.  That broken part falls into the crank sprocket and 
snaps the chain.

One cure for that it to cut the "ear" off before installation

Should not be an issue starting up a long time idle engine unless the chain is 
severely stretched.

There are different styles... I forget exactly what the 117 tensioner looks
like at this second.  617 tensiors ratchet.  I've got a M100/130/180
tensioner on my desk here thats hydraulic only.  They suck in oil from a
little pool they sit it and build tension from movement of the chain.

Not the ones I've seen.  Oil in a piston is its one-way mechanism.

I checked for an H9 at our Mt. Plastic Costco, they didn't have it in stock
but could get it pretty quick.  I think I'm going to need one soon for The
White Whale, maybe I'll try that route.

If I didn't want it to start, I'd disable the fuel supply before I'd 
disable the ignition. No reason to pour fuel in it you don't intend to 
burn IMO.

Best thing to do is crank the engine without letting it start to build oil
pressure.  You can just pull the wire off the coil.  Many mechanics do this
when changing the oil so the engine doesn’t run without pressure to the
tensioner.

Even better, remove the plugs also and crank it.  The engine will spin
quickly with the starter and build oil pressure quickly.
