[MBZ] Blower motor yoga
The blower motor on the 05E320 has been chirping occasionally for awhile. The other day I was driving and hit a bump and it started screeching pretty bad. I turned it off and back on and it was better but then screeched loud and died. So today I decided to see what the deal was. I got the blower motor/fan out, lots of contortions as it is up under the glove box so you have to get under there to see it and remove the screws holding it in. Lubed it up and it was spinning ok but no workies when I put it back and powered it up. Pelican Parts have some good write ups on the whole thing. There is a big fuse in the footwell for the blower apparently so I got in there and checked it, was ok. So that points to the regulator on the blower motor, PP have a test procedure I’ll do another time. A new one looks to be about $90 for some chinee part, more for something “better.” --FT Sent from iFōn ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] USAA V Progressive, roof claim etc
First an update with the roof claims. For the primary house the roofer says wind damage. Have a couple of spots of missing shingles on the top of the roof peak. Roofer showed me several areas where shingles are loose and could blow off. Tried to get USAA to cover a roof replacement but their claim amount goes in at $600 for repair, well under deductible. May or may not try to fight them on that but not sure it will go anywhere. Will just wait till a good hail storm comes along. On the rental, USAA is paying for a roof replacement, sort of. Their estimate is coming in at around $14.2k for complete replacement. I sent this to roofer because to me is seems light. The deductible is $2k and apparently the roof is covered ACV rather than replacement value so they are depreciating it around $3k. They then have a $300 recoverable depreciation amount that can be paid after repair is done. They sent a check for around $9400, with basically me paying the rest out of pocket, so will have to come up with around $5k. Will have the wife contact roofer to see what we need to do to get their number up. In the mean time, since they were just paying a depreciated amount, I debated on just banking this money since we will most likely be selling the house in the next year or 2 anyway, and if buyer wants new roof, negotiating it into the deal. Problem is, check is issued to us as well as mortgage company. I am not 100% sure how all that works but it appears as if I am going to have to basically sign the check over to them then somehow pay the roofer, or somehow get them to sign the check so I can deposit it then pay the roofer. Long story short, since its also made out to them, it looks like that pretty much forces the repairs to have to be completed now, rather than waiting. This could be somewhat of a problem as our mortgage company on that house is a total and complete pain in the ass to deal with, absolutely horrible. I about guarantee I will send them the check, or have to send them some paperwork and it will get lost and it will take months and months to get anything done. Other part of the story, when talking to roofer about the possibility of them paying on ACV instead of replacement cost, he says he can help us haggle on the "insurance" quote for replacement, then when it comes time to do the work since they are not paying the whole deal anyway, he will give us the cash price he would charge without insurance involved which should hopefully offset some of the depreciation portion of it. On a normal deal, there is an inflated amount they would bill insurance and all we pay is the deductible. Now on to insurance quotes. Right now USAA is charging me $902/6 months for 4 cars, only 1 has full coverage. Progressive is quoting $416/6 months for full coverage on all 4 cars. I quoted full coverage on all cars at USAA ant it was over $2k for 6 months. Primary house it is right at around $2k per year cheaper. This are not small differences which is one reason why I am not sure if this is too good to be true. I have not even shopped the rental house yet. I am not really sure if I do decide to switch, I do it while these claims are still going on. I was going to potentially try the progressive route now on the primary and cars while the rental claim is still going on, then move rental later. Re: [MBZ] 1996 S320 - 135k miles - $3,600
There is. 1996 and later don’t suffer from the evaporator issues of the first gen models. Accessing the compressor on the V8 and I6 engines isn’t bad, you have to get to it from below as on most of these cars. I’ve never owned a six cylinder W140, but I understand that the six cylinder engine in these is pretty easy to work on. I’ve driven a few, and they’re not bad performance-wise. Where you would notice the difference is on the highway when you’re driving at speed and you punch the throttle - with the V18 or V12 you’ll get a good neck snap, the inline six not so much. -D > On Sep 12, 2021, at 4:19 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > How are they to own? When you get dropped or refused coverage it appears that the insurance companies are tight-lipped. Our State Farm rep that handles some life policies we still have with them kept hassling me to bid on our auto policies. I gave him a shot and he came back to me, saying the company refused to quote on me. I asked why and he said he didn’t know, that when there is a rejection/refusal they don’t give him a reason. He said in some cases like a customer having a bad credit score or driving record it’s pretty well understood, but in our case none of that would have applied. -D > On Sep 12, 2021, at 4:05 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > We used to have farm bureau but years ago they went thru and just dropped > people for no reason. Not surprising. TR7s were an outlier for Triumphs for a lot of reasons. They’ve always been a bargain basement entry point to Triumphs in comparison to other Triumph models. I will say that they fit taller people better than other models. I’ve driven one and wasn’t impressed, but if you want a small British sports car they’re not bad. -D > On Sep 12, 2021, at 12:25 PM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes > wrote: > > I'd have thought the price would be at least $10k higher by now. > > https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-triumph-tr7-22/ > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
