Air cleaner has to come off. I don't remember if the battery tray has to be removed. With a 616, it's pretty easy. I think the top starter bolt is removed from above too. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] MB Spotting
Saw an “EQS” 4Matic sedan on the way to the dealership on Friday. Looked sort of cool, but very “jellybean-like”. It had plates on it from Florida but a Washington University license plate frame. Turned into the local Jesuit high school, which is down the street from the MB dealership. Lots and lots of very rich people’s kids attend Jesuit, so I’m assuming it was a very well-to-do person. I noticed that the rear window didn’t seem to have much in the way of area, that is, the visibility out the back looked really limited. The driver was definitely putting their foot into it, despite the 35 mph speed limit. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] OT - No Car Repairs Today
Well, I did replace a cracked outer window scraper molding on the right rear door of the ML550, but that took a whopping five minutes, and most of that time was cleaning the area behind it and waiting for the wax to dry before I put the new one on. The old one was cracked all over for some reason. Swapped out a bad heating element on the clothes dryer. Turned out the element wire had broken off right at the crimp on the push on terminal. I probably could have repaired it, but the thing was 10 years old and the new element was less than $30, so I figured I might as well replace it. Took the opportunity to vacuum out my dryer vent and the inside of the dryer as well. All back together and drying as intended. Next weekend I get to replace a bum element in the casita water heater in Flagstaff. I ordered a pair of elements, a new thermostat and a 1/2 drive socket to pull the elements off of the Island of Large Wimmen and barely broke $40. That will probably take me an hour, if that. I’ll take the opportunity to put a straight nipple and ball valve on the drain so it can be easily flushed, too. Something I do on all of my water heaters when new. Later in the week I’ll be doing the motor mounts on the ML350, a total pig of a job, then the following weekend the youngster is swapping out the AC compressor on the 2002 E320. I gave him a list of stuff he’ll need, I’m going to supervise. Afterwards, I’ll have a full set of AC tools in Flagstaff in the event I need them. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] OT: Nissan maintenance and repairs
You should invest in some Kroil. While PB Blaster is good stuff, I’ve yet to find an equal to Kroil. It’s even more expensive since they started selling it through third parties on Amazon, but it goes a long way. I soak everything with it in advance, and it’s yet to deny me a fastener, no matter how nasty. Good work. Sounds like a lousy job, but at least you’re done and it’s not something you’ll be doing again in the immediate future. -D > On Jun 4, 2022, at 6:45 PM, Kevin Kraly via Mercedes > wrote: > > Attaboy!! > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Jun 4, 2022, at 2:32 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes >> wrote: >> >> Been working on the '04 Frontier the past three days. >> >> First project was replacing the fuel tank. Re: [MBZ] 61x starter replacement
Since you have a lift, isn't the real question which is easier? It may be possible to do from above, but may be easier from below if you can stand under the car. I haven't done a starter replacement on a 617, but I probably should do it on my 300SD as it has trouble cranking for more than 10-15 seconds at a time which can make winter starts difficult. M113 should have no issues. If she *thought* it is a 2005 and it's a 2006 and it has a M273 it probably would have the issue. Talk to the shop, take your scanner and check it out. If it's a CPS or something, I would probably offer to swap it out for her, and just get first right of refusal when it's time for her to sell. You've got enough projects, not unlike myself or Kaleb. [MBZ] OT: Nissan maintenance and repairs
Been working on the '04 Frontier the past three days. First project was replacing the fuel tank. It had rusted around the perimeter seam and would seep fuel if it was more than half-full. Got a new tank from RockAuto. Replacement was tiring as every bolt was rusted. The joys of living in the salt belt. Lots of PB Blaster consumed. One bolt was so bad that the original 17mm head had shrunk to about 13mm. Of course it was the least accesible bolt also. Fortunately the tank was the most rusted at that spot also, and just pulled free of the bolt. I later removed it with one of my Harbor Freight bolt extractors. All bolts replaced with new 10mm x 1.25 x 30mm from Lowes ($2.08 each!). Also had some struggles with the plastic "quick connect" high pressure fuel lines. Don't know why those are used instead of regular threaded compression fittings. I guess it must save a few seconds on the assembly line. One of them came off OK but the other one came apart in pieces. Managed to get it back together, though had to replace a torn o-ring with one from my Harbor Freight Viton o-ring kit. No leaks, thankfully, as I suspect a new line would have a good chance of being NLA from Nissan. Next project was replacing valve cover gaskets. The truck was leaking quite a bit of oil and that looked like the likely suspect. The right-hand cover is pretty easy to get to, just needed to unplug a few wiring harneses. The left hand cover is buried under the intake manifold but the oil leak was on the right-hand side so I just did that one for now. The gasket was hard as a rock and there was about a 1/8" gap/crack on the lower side. After an oil change and a test drive, the oil leak seems to be resolved. Need to do the left hand cover at some point but going to let that dog lie for now. Finally, an AC recharge. It has not held a charge and I suspected a bad schrader valve on the low pressure service port, as I saw some bubbling there last time I charged it. The system still had some pressure but not enough to cool. I got one of those devices that can change the valve core without losing pressure -- very slick and worked great. Didn't see any bubbles at that port this time. Fingers crossed that it holds the charge. I used R134A with "stop leak" in case there are other slow leaks in the system. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
