Re: [MBZ] OT changing jobs long post
Can't tell you how to prioritize income over other benefits or costs like travel, but maybe do what feels right and good things will happen. You could get them to cut you in on an equity stake with tag along rights. Then if they flip the company to another private equity group, which is what they all want to do at 5 years, at least you get paid out for your shares at the same multiple everyone else does, and it is taxed at capital gains rates. I woukd not worry at all about reputation at current company. When they realize you have options is when they start to take you more seriously. Otherwise a highly personal decision. Does the sale come with a custom fitted back brace and hip surgery? I owned one of those for a while, and it rode like an angry camel, and drove like a herd of ducks... aim it and hope.. Basically the way it works with this new job is you have a base but get a bonus for each week you are out based on how many days it is. I talked to them some more and basically they send out an email with what city/dates the trip is and everyone available looks at travel and sends them quotes for the cost. Whoever can get there cheapest will get it. For me, with most flights being connecting flights and flights returning have to generally be after 6-7pm, there would be no flights all the way back to Tulsa so I would have to stay an extra night and fly out the next morning. This will result is me probably getting less “assignments”, resulting in the numbers coming in at the lower end of my estimation. I also asked about rental cars since you just book travel wherever. At my current job we have a booking tool we used and we have contracts with a coupe of different companies we use. Part of the contract includes damage coverage and we are to waive it at booking. Company won’t cover it. I asked them do they reimburse the rental insurance or what. Basically they are relying on whatever credit card we use to cover it. The bidding process and this rental car liability question are leading me to believe I should pass. However, even if I don’t get as many trips I would end up working 2 weeks a month and would be at home the other 2 working on cars. Could still end up making the same or more than currently, or could be less if my current job does not change anything with our pay plan. Most likely, but check your neutral safety switch first once you’ve confirmed the battery is good. The electrical portion of the ignition switch can be replaced without having to replace the whole assembly. It’s a bit of a PITA to do in-frame, but it can be done with an offset screwdriver and some patience. It’s recommended to remove the whole assembly, but that’s a major undertaking. Be careful to reconnect the vacuum lines when you’re done, as they often get disconnected with all the moving stuff around in there. You should verify, but I believe the part number is a 202 545 01 04 64. Message me your VIN and I can look it up to be sure. -D > On Aug 15, 2022, at 3:56 PM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes > wrote: > > Speaking of diagnostics, when the diesel 123 takes your kid to school just > fine, but then no glow and no starter when you try to go home, is that due > to the switch behind the ignition key? Starter/glow are not** fused, so there's little to go wrong there besides the switch. That is, IFF the parking lights stay on when you try to start. If they go out too, one of the big battery cable connections is flakey, or the battery is dead. You didn't say whether stick or slushbox, but the neutral safety switch on a slushbox can prevent cranking if it goes out. Try N as well. But, won't affect glow. **there is a GP fuse, but that doesn't affect cranking. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Some excellent points, Jim. One thing to consider is how close you are to an exit strategy, that is, retirement. Kaleb’s still got some years before he can start working full time at Okie Acres making yummy Maine treats with the Missus and getting all of that German iron back into shape once he gets his shop sorted out. You gotta be in it for the long game at this point, so that’s consideration as well that can often overshadow personal preferences, such as travel. I did much the same when I took the job back at the County in Florida over the job in Flagstaff - less commuting and more money/better benefits, even though it’s something I don’t enjoy doing and never will. That could easily change and I could flip-flop again, but it would be a final move that would force me to make (permanent) changes in my life I’m ready for but Mrs. Dan isn’t quite up for at this point. It’s all about compromise, isn’t it? I do miss the interaction with my co-workers, as we are a tightly knit team who have worked together closely over nearly 10 years with common interests, more friends than co-workers. That being said, I like not having to spend money for gas, food and clothing, as well as the use of my time to commute, all of which are higher on the hierarchy of needs for me than personal interaction. We make up for it by getting together for lunch at the office maybe once a month. -D > On Aug 15, 2022, at 1:08 PM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes > wrote: > > I retired during the pandemic because I missed the human interaction with > my co-workers. Your current company has shown their stripes. They are in an outsourcing mood, driven by greed. I have never seen an outsourcing drive that resulted in happier customers. Usually quite the opposite. Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
One of the things you get with the Mercedes trailer package is modification of suspension and stability systems software to help handle the heavier trailer load. It also modifies the rear car detection since you have added a trailer. All of this is automatic when the car detects the trail addition. I do not tow a heavy trailer currently but may in the future. There is also a change to the rear camera view, when you select trailer mode to help align trailer and hitch for hookup. It plugs into the car's factory wiring harness for the taillights, so no cutting or splicing wires, and has an independent power connection. It doesn't appreciably change the load on the car's lighting, so the "bulb-out" nannies are happy, and it handles LED or incandescent trailers fine as it's just supplying 12v signals. Mine has a 4-pin flat connector for the trailer. On Sun, Aug 14, 2022, at 08:42, dan penoff.com via Mercedes wrote: > Rick, > > That’s a straight adapter from 7 pin to 4/5 pin - I’ve got one.
