So, I’m wondering if I should get estimate only and figure out if I am gong to fix it, or go ahead and get estimate and leave it, then drive rental car until they figure it out. My cheap instinct is to take the money and later fix it myself, but with that small gap at the top of the door I’m afraid it has some slight b pillar damage in which case there is no way I can fix it properly. Or, get payout, sell this car as is, then buy something else or pocket the money and get a different Okie acres car ready to go. I guess there is also the possibility State Farm attempts to total it. If that is the case then I guess I would do a buy back them either sell it as is or try to fix it myself. I would, simply because 1.) it’s cheap; and 2.) the filter could be breaking down from age, especially if it’s one that uses glue to hold the pleated paper together like the fleece filters in the M112. -D > On Aug 17, 2022, at 4:21 PM, greg via Mercedes wrote: > > I put only a few K miles on between changes. Re: [MBZ] Dealing with State Farm
Kaleb, Don't be scared of the B pillar damage. The services of a competent body shop with a frame shop should pull it back to position pretty quickly, done and dusted.. then find a replacement door, paint to match.. adjust the rear door so the car has proper fit and margins... you could be back in business pretty quickly, for low budget money. The new frame machines with laser location in 3 axis can dial everything in quickly. I let the adjuster know in that email that I would be taking the car on Wednesday (today) to get estimates from the local MB certified shop that the dealer uses. Previous to that when I told him that is where I would be going, he proceeded to say they overcharged customers for unnecessary work yada yada. I also told him that they would need to inspect the car in person and not rely on a virtual appraisal. Crickets. Called them today and raised hell saying my time is valuable and today is the day I’m taking it in. Long story short, I guess they have a rental car reserved when I take car in. Re: [MBZ] A small step to the dark side: I buy a Harbor Fright battery electric lawn mower
Lithium, lead-acid or Nickel battery? If lithium, try to store it between 1/3 and 2/3 charged, and charge it immediately before using it, don't leave it fully charged for days/weeks at a time. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
[MBZ] A small step to the dark side: I buy a Harbor Fright battery electric lawn mower
I have an old Lawn Boy two-stroke push mower that I use for small areas that the lawn tractor won't reach. It's become harder and harder to start, I had it serviced a few years ago and they told me compression was low. If I'm lucky I can get it started using starting spray or propane from a blowtorch. It runs unevenly (surges). I've cleaned the carburetor, adjusted as well as I can and I'm just tired of messing with it. At some point not everything can be a project; some stuff just needs to work without fuss. I bought an "Atlas" 80V battery electric push mower yesterday. $199 for the mower, $99 for the battery, charger was free. Charging it up now. From what I have read, most of these electric push mowers seem to be made by the same Chinese manufacturer. Claims to be "professional grade" but it's definitely built to a price. Stamped steel deck. The motor housing, battery housing and wheels are all plastic. But, it's something I will use for 15 minutes at a time, maybe once a week in peak lawn-cutting season, so I'm hopful that it can serve that purpose for a while. Re: [MBZ] Maybe OT: wheel lug stud replacement
Turned out to me much easier than hoped. A rare outcome for me when it comes to repairs. A few hammer taps knocked the remains of the broken stud out of the back of the hub. There was enough clearance to get it out, and get the new one in. I used a small stack of greased washers and a nut to pull it in, then a new lug nut to remount the wheel.
