door lock assembly needs to be replaced, even though the rest of the lock
works well. Dammfino.

2024-03-15 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
We wanted a video doorbell sans WiFi crap etc.
Bought one and installed it. Tested it and it worked great, except that the
video was slightly fuzzy.
Checked all kinds of things, no joy, and so, to bed. Woke up at 02:30 for a
visit and, sitting there in the dark, had an epiphany! Put on my warmest
robe, went outside (36deg F) and peeled the verdammt plastic skin off the
camera lens!
I grow too soon, old and too late, smart!

In the olden days, control cable ends could be repaired by using a small
repair cable end that was either brass, for soldering, or steel with a
small screw in the end to capture the wire as it went through the side of
said repair part.
As useful as they were I'm sure something could be found/fabricated. As a
mental exercise, I will sift my treasure-trove (pile) to see if there are
any extant.

From my wet learning experience:-
If you use drops to each air connection , build in a water drain that you
can daily let out the liquid surprises before they occur.
BTDT. Felt like an idiot.

[MBZ] Not ready for prime time.

2023-10-31 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
Hello all.
My new-to-me Ml320 CDi is not going to pass inspection because the NMHC
Catalyst is not ready and the PM Filter is also not ready. No CEL and the
filter was replaced by MB along with the turbo and exhaust etc. at N/C on a
recall . The tester said to drive it for a week and return.
Question. How do I know that the system bits are ready to be tested?
I assume that some kind of scanner would be most useful? If so,
recommendations?
Thanks for your kind attention.
Fred.

2023-07-26 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
Dimitri, Dwight.
FWIW.
If the lever is down the rack is in the shutoff position and will not
supply fuel at all.
The vacuum shut-off device could be stuck, maybe? (I have a spare).
The pump side plate, when removed, will let you access the rack.
I have an OM602 injection pump with 90k mi. that you may have.
Confused yet?

I am trying to run cat6e from the front to the back of my home and the

[MBZ] Glow plug relay

2023-05-15 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
Dimitri.
The cover of the 5/6 pin connector is just clipped on, it is removable.
N.B. The cover keeps the connector pins and wires in place, make sure to
keep them in order.
Simple test for ground.
Using a turn signal bulb in a socket with two wires. One wire to Pos on
battery, the other to Ground in the socket. If the bulb lights brightly,
the connection is capable of passing a couple of amps, therefore good
enough to power the relay.
A meter will only tell you if there is any connection, not if it will pass
enough current to work.
If I have misunderstood your question, I apologise.

Re: [MBZ] 300D 2.5 Glow Plug Relay

2023-05-14 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
Dimitri.
 FWIW found this.
I'm not familiar with that glow relay part number but I'll assume the
connectors are compatible with MB passenger car harnesses and it's an
afterglow relay. Forget the wire colors and check for pin numbers either on
the relay itself or on the connector. The numbers should correspond between
relay and connector pins. Here's the pin list for a 90-91 300D 2.5:

pin 1 = +12V when key switch in run to initiate preglow cycle (W124 = hot
side of fuse 7)
pin 2 = +12V when key switch in start to terminate preglow cycle (W124 =
NSS)
pin 3 = +12V to gauge cluster glow indicator
pin 4 = ground
pin 5 = blank
pin 6 = signal from glow temp sensor by water pump to determine preglow and
afterglow cycle times

Assuming each glow plugs test between 0.7- and 1 ohm at the glow relay
connector, leave pin 2 disconnected then see if you get the max preglow
cycle of ~30 seconds. I don't know how the glow relay behaves when there is
no temp sensor.

If this gets to be too much work, a 617 pencil type glow relay should work
for you since afterglow isn't much of a benefit in the tropics if you have
healthy glow plugs.

Democracy from the Greek demos.
We learned it all from them, and then put our own spin on it.
Dubious indeed!

Re: [MBZ] 61x starter replacement

2022-06-05 Thread Frederick Moir via Mercedes
Kaleb.
FWIW. On my 85 300TD, I took the starter out the bottom.
The exhaust plumbing etc made it very difficult from the top.
Disconnected the wiring.
A couple of long half inch extensions and an allen socket took out the
bolts.
Turning the steering just so allowed the starter to (fall) be removed.
YMMV.
