[MBZ] '87 300SDL Glow Plugs

2019-08-01 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
I tried starting my car this morning but my glow plug light did not come on.
First time in 10 yrs. owning this car.  It was a very warm day and thought
maybe in might start without the glow plugs.  No go!  Looked in the fuse box
but could not find anything for the glow plugs.  Where would I find these for
the glow plugs? Never had any problems thus far with glow plugs, or injectors.
Thanks.Ralph, '87 300 SDL

[MBZ] '87 300SDL Trans. leak

2018-08-20 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
My car has been leaking Trans. fluid this past year.  I had the seals replaced
but now noticed some leaking.  Had it checked today and my mechanic says the
leak seems to be a valve on the right side of the tranny which has been
identified as the secondary trans. oil pump.  There is an O ring there which
could be the culprit, or the pump itself.  Does a leak from this pump seem
likely, or would it more likely be the O ring.  Anyone have any ideas on  this
issue??
Thanks

Re: [MBZ] '87 126 striker plate screw

2018-08-13 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
That is a great idea, I will try getting the screw out by drilling it.  I have
another concern; there appears to be a plate behind the striker plate that the
actual striker screw, screws through and it looks like it is behind the frame
metal.  Is this the case?  If so, how do I manage to take the striker off
without losing this plate that is probably behind the actual frame metal?  I
have never had a striker plate actually off a car before; just moved these
plates around a bit without actually removing them.  Just something I thought
might give me more headaches, so that is why I am asking you; it sounds like
you have had experience taking these things off completely before.  Thanks
again.

It's such a happy moment when your bit jams and the bolt spins out of the hole
by accident.

Oops, I just checked, now those bits are $8-30 each.
And a set of five with matching spiral extractors is $85.
Anyway, the striker screws are flat heads, right?
You might be able to drill the screw out, take the striker off, and put
vice-grips on the stub of screw remaining.

This is a very interesting thread as I have an '87 300SDL with about 250K
miles.  The tranny does seem sluggish getting into 4th., and also slow going
into reverse.  I have read about the reverse syndrome and have been very leery

there is a glimmer of hope.  I would also like some further info and details
that I can use to have a qualified tranny service operator to view and do the
necessary repairs.  Thanks very much for any info you can forward.

Re: [MBZ] 300SDL A/C electrical problem

2016-12-08 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
It is the SDL car, thanks for the input.  My next question is simpler;  should
I have an A/C specialist do this testing work, or a garage that works mainly on
European Vehicles?  I have both in the area. The garage that gave me my latest
input does not have the specialized A/C. equipment needed, but he did determine
that the wiring was done incorrectly and fixed that for me first.I was advised
that the compressor did have sufficient refrigeration to actually run, but just
wasn't, and that seems to fit into the klima issue.  Thanks

The fan sounds like it is running well.  The speed can be varied but very
little or nil air is coming out of the vents.  If I am driving, and open the
roof vent, the air comes out thru the vents nicely.  When I come to a stop, no
air is coming out, but the fan is running and sounds like it is blowing air.  I
tried running it in various modes, but the flow is no different, either in the
heat mode or the A/C mode.Ralph

[MBZ] heater, a/c fan

2016-11-20 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
I had the brushes changed in my heater/a/c fan motor.  Since replacing,
although the fan motor runs good, there is very little air coming into the
interior of the car.  The fan makes a sound as though there is something
blocking the air flow.  It is so low that the A/C does not keep the car cool.
Could the motor have been installed incorrectly thereby blocking the flow into
the car?

[MBZ] '84 300 CD- Locked Ignition Switch

2016-05-18 Thread Ralph,'84TD via Mercedes
Hi, I sent this request this morning for some help, but the message has been
held up all day for approval by the moderator.  Don't know why, but I need some
input before I call a tow truck and send my car to a garage. My wife returned
from shopping and shut off the car.  She left the key in the ignition, and when
she returned to move the car, the ignition was locked and she could not turn
the key.  She tried moving the steering wheel, but it would not do any good.  I
also tried moving the steering wheel but the key would not turn on.  I also
tried 2 extra keys that I have, but still no go.Any ideas on what I might try
before I send for the tow truck to take to garage?  Thanks.
