Never looked at a 116. IIRC 115 has had both types, the roller on leaf spring and the sliding ball detent types. Never seen anything but the latter in 123/126. Never seen anything but roller on cam in 107. Never seen a broken 107 strap, they seem to be significantly more robust than the others. It may be that the bodies are not pot metal, unlike the 115. It's the pot metal that always fails. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Could a R107 strap work? ( not knowing, since I have not needed to do those straps). From my PnP scrounging tours, the check straps for w115, 116, 123 and 126 all looked very much alike. I did not get to scrounge many coupes. I do recall the w124 had different sort of check strap than earlier. clay I have no pronouns please do not refer to me. > On Aug 13, 2021, at 7:47 AM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes > wrote: > >> I realize the coupe door is longer, so I wonder how much that 114mm >> translates into door swing? > > Also heavier. Re: [MBZ] 123 part search
Good idea! Be sure the old one doesn’t have a failed strap, that is, the two captive metal balls that have the spring between them. That’s another failure mode for these as well. The peened metal that holds one of the balls captive in the strap can fail, and the ball pops out into the door cavity. -D > On Aug 13, 2021, at 4:15 PM, Dwight Giles via Mercedes > wrote: > > Thanks curt but I think we will skipwelding. You need the wider sweep to better get in and out. Longer door = less angle to open, meaning it has to angle out farther to allow easy egress/ingress. Having owned one of these as well as an R129 I can attest to the need for the wider sweep. -D Sent from my iPad > On Aug 13, 2021, at 11:30 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes > wrote: > > Does anybody, for example South Carolina Floyd, have a 123 coupe and a 123 > sedan/wagon handy? > If so, what's the angular difference between the fully opened doors, and why > would the larger door need a wider sweep angle, other than to whack nearby > parked cars with? > > >> On 2021-08-13 11:20, dan penoff.com via Mercedes wrote: >> >> I also wonder if you couldn’t use a sedan version and just have a >> limited door swing. Does anybody, for example South Carolina Floyd, have a 123 coupe and a 123 sedan/wagon handy? Yes rare. Classic center said they just remade some. It is for a friend of mine. Mine was changed when I bought it. Re: [MBZ] 123 part search
I did some digging and only came up with the OE part. You can find it at a number of the RevParts sellers for under $250.00, but I don’t see any alternatives. Sorry. If it’s any consolation they’re trading on eBay for upwards of $350 for the uninitiated. I would say to bite the bullet and buy an OE one and move on. I’m surprised they’re still available considering the relatively small application base. -D > On Aug 12, 2021, at 5:31 PM, Dwight Giles via Mercedes > wrote: > > I am looking for a door stop/check strap for a 123 coupe. [MBZ] 123 part search
I am looking for a door stop/check strap for a 123 coupe. They are different from sedan and wagon. MB Classic has one for 250.00. (ouch) Yesterday I found a URO one for much cheaper but I can't find it today. Parts # is 123 720 03 16. Strap length is 114mm while sedan is 100mm. Does Anybody have a good used one or know of a source? I have tried all the major sources. TIA Dwight Dwight E.
