What I don’t get is that in TX only dealers or brokers can bid on TX CT cars, 
yet in the past I have bought several cars from the CAN donation auction down 
there that had CT.

In theory, I should be able to bid on the MI clear titles and not on the MI 
clear title dealer only cars. But it doesn't work that way in practice, even 
though I overheard one of the counter gals telling another customer that he 
could bid on any car that was CT. 

But what about a MI clear title car that I can bid on one day and not bid on 
another day, which is the case with the SL500 I was talking about?

suggest that I can’t bid on anything titled in Florida unless I use a broker?

You really need to review the license requirement page.  It will list 
who can bid on what based on state and based on what sort of title it 
has.  In some states, public can bid on anything. In other states, 
public can only bid if it has a clear title.  In others, public can only 
bid if it has a salvage title.  This does not seem to depend on what 
state the auction if physically located in, it depends on what state the

A week ago I put a test bid on an SL500 to see if it was open to public 
bidding. 

Yesterday, when the same car came up for live bidding, complete with the big 
red thumbs down symbol to show that I've been outbid on this lot, it says 'you 
are not eligible to bid on this item'. Huh? It was a dealer only sale and they 
let me place preliminary bids on it?

This was the Ionia auction site, where I bought my ML350 on a preliminary bid 
last summer, but I was able to bid on the ML during the live auction too.
