Alex, I am thinking Coke, not pepsi, to soak that out of there. Drench in coke, let it soak, then extract with shop vac. Rinse with water, then brake cleaner, then douse with coke, repeat until it goes away. My spill is in the driveway, and I am going to use a 2 liter of coke and grease cutter to try to wash it away. clay 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored chap 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers On Sep 2, 2013, at 5:40 PM, Alex Chamberlain wrote: > On Sep 2, 2013 3:50 PM, "clay" wrote: >> We did a diff fluid swap and got >> molasses which has left a stench to >> be rivaled by the reek of hellfire. > > Anyone got any tips on getting that diff fluid stink out of things? Re: [MBZ] Drive-a-clone
This pig is turning into a pearl. Only big issue was that transmission. All the rest is standard old car stuff. Any used car will have needs that have not been met. Sometimes you get the car that really was ignored, but if you put a modicum of elbow grease towards it, the thing comes back to life better than it should. Other items shop found were flex disk, minor electrical parts, fuses, and the fluids. Brakes pads are good enough, but should have attention paid to them sooner than later (DOT 4 was replaced). Even the MB CPO cars do not get work done prior to being placed on the floor. Maybe fluids, but not a full take down and replace of worn items. Instead, the car fails to meet CPO and goes on the lot or to auction, to be sold by a tertiary level car lot that will not put labor into it either. Looking for the replacement for the w124 E300, we saw a number of w210 e300 that were in far worse shape than the SE, needed much more, and cost four times as much with far less quality. I grant, this is not a W220 in showroom condition, then again, even Victor had minor niggling items that needed to be addressed. I was 900 miles away from a Service A, will need to replace tires before winter, it throws codes for no good reason for things that are not failed, and Victor does not blow the SIberian ICE COLD AC that the SE does. clay 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored chap 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers On Sep 2, 2013, at 5:35 PM, m...@voyager.net wrote: >> There have been no orders to keep me away from #1 boy's car. So for the fluids have been on my dime. The trans is all good, as it was swapped with a rebuilt once I did a double fluid swap and it still came out nasty. Engine and diff I will keep an eye on to see how they are faring. Cheap FLAPS fluid and filter deal for $24 even though it was castrol synth. Might have to look out for another "oil sale deal" and get fresh filter around Halloween. Then we can do M1 for the new year. There was no way to check fluids beyond the dip stick. Looked like diesel oil, and the trans was thrash when he bought. No, he has forbidden me to work on the car unless I am willing to pay double shop time to fix the mess I make. With that said, I replaced the hood pad yesterday. Removed the hood from the car. Turned it over onto saw horses and removed the rotting hood pad. cleaned it up, gave it a coat of paint to protect the scrapes then 3M glue and rolled a new pad. It looks great and reduced heat intrusion to the cabin as well as noise. I was told to mark the location of screws and such to make sure I got it all back the way it should be. Thought about marking it with sharpie or maybe paint in some manner. Decided to drill a vey small hole in the support and hood side sheet metal. That way I can stick a pin in it when I zip it back up. It worked pretty good. I did have to muck about with the pin to get pressure off it, but the hood went on fairly easy. Milford, NH is actually a pretty nice place. I looked at a TDI there a couple months ago. Had some fantastic ribs. Its a suburb of Manchester also known as "Manch-Vegas" for the many bars and nightlife attractions. 20k is the definition of city, its where you cross from town to city. My town of Winchendon is also about 5,000. We live right in town so no keys in the car but I don't bother to lock the car at night. That said I don't keep anything in the car either. Once in 7 years somebody got into the car and stole my spare change. He probably needed it more than I do. -Curt Date: Mon, 2 Sep 2013 10:58:37 -0400 From: Michael Canfield To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Drive-a-clone Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 I guess me. At least one of my small town high school teachers didn't believe in locked doors. With the number of kids visiting his house over the years, hundreds of people must have known it. Yet no home invasions ever, AFAIK. He left the garage wide open, with a message board on the door from the garage to the house, so I never saw a reason to go in if nobody was home. He didn't leave keys in cars though. I never lock my cars, unless I park at Walmart or go to the city, but I pocket the key.
