Damn I gotta get this $600 99E320 cleaned up and get the PS sorted. This is the
one I fixed the conductor plate and it has been great until I was thinking to
sell it then the PS started acting up.

I have my daughters 95E320, a little rough looking but runs well, solid
transpo. I have a new driver’s window regulator to put in and front brakes to
do then need to sell it too.

2018-09-18 Thread Rick Knoble via Mercedes
It's an unfunny joke. This uninformed youth on a Facebook group converted a
300D from automatic to stick, and mismatched the driveshaft halves to make it
work. He claims that it doesn't vibrate...

I guess the kicker is, he thinks he is right.

Prime example of the Dunning Krueger effect.

I don't buy it. If plugging the halfs together a couple of teeth off causes
vibration, how can it not matter?

Probably is confusing the fact that each shaft is marked with the two parts
being balanced separately (just like people thinking you could interchange
flywheels on the older cars with manual transmissions). In both cases the
whole thing is balanced as a unit, if you mix and match parts you're gonna
shake some, and maybe a lot.

That is the same people who worship uncle kent and some kid on there who
is a 123 god and runs some sort of shop yet does not own a basic set of
valve adjusting wrenches.  Regardless of what the guy says, I do not buy
you can just swap halves and it does not vibrate.  I highly suspect the
guy does not know how it is supposed to be and does not notice the
vibrating.

Re: [MBZ] Facebook W123 idiots

2018-08-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Thats kind of my thought. I've helped him a couple times in the past. Once his
car wouldn't start, he's out there just cranking away on the starter and it
won't go. I took my inline spark tester over and put it on, its got no spark.
He suddenly remembered you've got to hold the key just so to have spark while
cranking. *facepalm*
Another time he's trying to jump start one of his jalopy's off his mother's
car. He hooks it up and immediately tries to crank it, waits about 10 seconds
and tries again and its still no go.After about 20 minutes of that I'm annoyed,
I go over "Just leave it alone for a goddam minute okay?" After exactly one
minute I tell him to start it and it goes.
Last night I asked if he was starting his own junkyard. He stammered to explain
that they're building one car out of two, this has been going on for several
months mind. I pointed out that I didn't buy a house across the street from a
junkyard. I think/hope he got the picture.

[MBZ] Facebook W123 idiots

2018-08-08 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
So I mentioned before about these Facebook kids on this W123 group
talking about their cars overheating.  Sometimes the things I see on
there cause my blood pressure to raise with how idiotic some of these
people are.  I am not sure why or how these people fell in love with the
123 but the did.  A lot of posts are really simpleton stuff.  The other
day somebody posted a pic of the block heater plugin wanting to know
what it was for.  Really?  Today somebody is posting pics of the
autozone hook type spring compressor trying to use it to pull springs
out of a 123.  There is this one kid that I get the impression he is
running some sort of repair business on the side or something as I hear
him mention working on customers cars and his profile says something
about a "business".  Anyway the OP posted a pic of one autozone spring
compressor.  He posted a pic or something about the 2 piece hook one
should work, just spread the coils apart a little bit to get it to fit.
Holy smokes, if this guy is getting people to pay him to work on his car
and he thinks this is Ok, I am not sure who is dumber, him or whoever
lets him work on their car.  The other day he posted about replacing the
chain tensioner rail on a 617 and he had to remove the radiator and a
bunch of crap to get the rail pin out because he did not have the proper
tool. Wow.  Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Having not see Kaleb's reply, I'll have to respond to Philip's reply to
him.

Grant's comments summarize it well,
--
While as a business owner for most of my life I can appreciate the
exposure given by a listing on Facebook, my personal objection is this:

In order to even see your listings on Facebook, I am required to JOIN
facebook. Immediately upon joining facebook my entire contact with the
internet is suddenly overwhelmed with popups and trash generated by my
contact with facebook. Something I very much do not desire. Suddenly, I
have emails from companies and people who I have no desire to have contact
with ONLY by virtue of having ONCE made contact with, and joined
facebook. It then takes nothing short of overwhelming effort to remove
yourself from all those contact points that have been generated without
your agreement.

It is, in my considered opinion, the social and electronic equal to
deliberately giving yourself herpes.
--

And, interestingly, a comment on the Forbes blog does as well,
--
It's very rare to find somebody who is both active and authentic, it
seems like the primary impetus for people posting on Facebook is to make
others envious or to just facilitate a user's own sense of grandeur.
