I didn't watch the video, but in general the railroads are suffering the same problem as many other employers: lack of staff and difficulty hiring. Modern railroads run less scheduled trains and more "when the train is ready we go" ad-hoc. Engineers and conductors are living out of hotels, getting called with two hours notice that they are going halfway across the country. What used to be a predictable job with good pay is now much more unpredictable and experienced employees are quitting or retiring and telling their kids to pursue a different line of work. What I do not understand are the metrics of the railroad cutting off scheduled shipments of tank car loads of diesel, DEF, Gasoline, Biodiesel, Ethanol, and engine oils to Pilot. Thanks, That was sort of what I was getting, just wanted to be sure. He was talking about “cars” and DEF, so I was a bit confused. Doesn’t seem to take much these days…. I have a much better understanding of how much stuff moves by rail these days, as Flagstaff has one of the main east/west rail lines (BNSF Seligman Subdivision) going through from LA to Chicago. It averages 75 freight trains a day. Some of those are 2-3 miles long.
