My '98 Jetta TDI had a big buzzer that went off when the oil line to the turbo burst. If it hadn't I probably would have fried the engine. Angie's '05 Golf has a brake fluid level sensor that seems to have a wiring fault, it goes off randomly but the fluid is fine. I replaced the sensor, which is the cap and it still does it although maybe less often. Speaking of high school. Of course I had my 79 240D, then later a 83 300D, then a 78 300D, then a 82 300D, and finally a 83 380SEL that was original owned by Al Hirt. Those were the cars I had all thru high school. Anyway, I do recall one of the teachers at the school had a 77-79 300D, and seems like at one point there might have been a 300D another student drove but don’t think I ever knew who it was. I did. My first car I bought when I was 16 was a 79 240D auto with 44k miles on it. Colorado Beige with palamino interior. Paid $5500 for it. What I wouldn’t give to have that car back. For that last several years I have been keeping my eye out for one just like it. Sometimes I even Google the VIN to see if anything pops up. Too bad there is not a way to run a carfax on a 79. I am real curious whatever happened to it. I remember the couple I sold it to and what town they lived in. Maybe I should try tracking them down if they are still alive and see what they did with it. Chances are it’s long been junked. But I can always hold out hope that perhaps they have it tucked away in a garage somewhere. I’m sure the knucklehead wasn’t overly meticulous in taking it apart to be able to install the stack so I’d imagine that stuff is all horsed up. Does the engine suffer because it’s been operating without the back pressure of the designed exhaust system? We should develop a hood repair kit that has a big bandaid decal to be put over the repaired hole that says another one saved from the coal rolling buffoons.
