Wasn't the story on Gore and the Internet traced back to a comment that he was one of the senators who authorized funding for some of the initial infrastructure that allowed the Internet to be started? I know that is not nearly as much fun to say, but like most politics I find little more than a hint of truth in it - at least make sure of 'facts' prior to endless repeating of propaganda on either side. I think the hoax part is that humans are to be held accountable for a natural occurrence that is so far beyond what we could do. Yes, it is getting hot. yes, there are dire consequences. The most recent science points to other causes than something we did. Looks more like solar activity is the greater cause of heating. Unless you are going to say the mars rovers have upset the delicate balance on Mars and have caused it to heat up as well. But Hendrik, you have this all wrong and bass ackward. We need the weapon system to control the weather. If we are able to decrease the total world population by a significant number, we should be able to reduce global warming by a concurrent amount, since the dead have no need for cheap chinese goods, food grown with petro chemicals, fuel for vehicles, or heated homes. Do you think there's much danger of Australia eventually falling under the domination of China? I've read that there is quite a bit of Chinese immigration. Gerry Domination in what regard? In terms of immigration, there is typically a mixing with the host. People go somewhere else to better themselves and/or future generations; there is a blending, assimilation and (I'd say) an enrichment of the culture as a whole. But how about economic domination? There is so much US debt (and currency) held by China that the US is already under the influence of Beijing. And our consumer markets are certainly reliant on (one might even say addicted to) China for cheap goods. At least for now. It is eye opening to see a government predicated on centralized planning and control attempt to ride the rodeo bull that is the Chinese economy. There are 1+ billion people aspiring to a Western standard of living and consumption that this one planet most likely doesn't have the resources to support, at least if fueled by energy supplied by fossil fuels. And most of those 1+ billion aspire to drive Buicks! Re: [MBZ] Now climate
Do you think there's much danger of Australia eventually falling under the domination of China? I've read that there is quite a bit of Chinese immigration. Gerry --- Domination in what regard? --- G: Economic, and eventually military intimidation. I'm thinking long term after the export driven Chinese economic bubble, based on credit, subsides (if it does). --- I wouldn't call it economic domination; more of a Mexican standoff. If China sold it's U.S. T-bonds and dollars it would hurt them as much as it would hurt the U.S. and it wouldn't take the U.S. with its huge GDP as long to recover as it would China. --- At least for now. Tony Wirtel - It's an interesting situation. During the 1930s before WW-2 Japan was shipping large quantities of manufactured goods to the U.S.; toys, footwear, etc.; and there were similar complaints about Japan as there are nowadays about China. And, of course, there was a similar situation with Japan during the 1970s, but Japan was buying hotels and factories with their American dollars. Re: [MBZ] Now climate [was:Re: Don Wills has invited you to joinKiva - populations discussion]
Who knows, they have bucket loads of money and are using that to further their interest around the world. Yesterday the Chinese president was in Western Australia checking out mines, so I dare say that they will be investing heavily in ensuring a supply of raw materials, the problem we are having is getting the manpower on the ground to dig the stuff out. Unfortunately Australia has a history of doing the easy thing, the easy thing being that we supply China et al with raw materials and our manufacturing industry goes to the dogs. Our politicians are too gutless to put pressure on China in regard to human rights/basic wages and as a result China sees Australia as being soft and will probably have the upper hand in the future. This leading to an interference in our domestic politics. Whereas China is sensitive to outside interference I do not see them being as touchy when it comes to them meddling in other countries politics. No I don't think that there is a disproportional amount of Chinese immigration, Australia is a very xenophobic country but I suppose it is attractive to have 'guest workers' do the hard yakka while we sit on the beach and relax. archer wrote: Do you think there's much danger of Australia eventually falling under the domination of China? Our dependence on oil is an entire nother story. Providing we can find a way to power your 6 liter SUV with a renewable resource, then why not? It's also interesting that you mentioned that we need a huge AC to cool the planet. In other words, we should find a way to intervene without understanding full impact of global warming and the repercussions of our actions? Our history is full of repercussions of our actions, the most obvious to me is the kudzu that growing rampant in my back yard because we (Humans) decided that kudzu would make great ground cover and animal feed. The stuff grows so fast that you can watch it grow. Then there's the deer that are running rampant up and down the East Coast because we (Humans) thought it was proper to kill off their natural predators, the American Wolf. There are 100's of similar published examples of Human intervention. And now you expect Humans to fiddle with the climate? The whole idea scares the h*ll out of me! Re: [MBZ] Now climate [was:Re: Don Wills has invited you to joinKiva - populations discussion]
Yes but the big question is can we become masters of the climate or are we going to stand by like the dinosaurs did? Obviously not, we are to busy spending squillions on weapons research to come up with better ways of killing each other. Hang on, perhaps we can sell the idea that if we can control the climate it can be used as a weapon. Don't like the Ruskis? Easy, freeze em to death. Those funny Aussies starting to be a pain? Turn up the heat and watch em fry. China getting too big for their boots? Heat up the south and freeze the north and bomb the part in the middle. North Korea got the bomb or WMD's? Tooo easy, it's pretty cold there already. However to really get the ball rolling on this we have to convince the pentagon that Iran is doing research into climate control weapons. Some believe people cause it others believe it is caused by various things such as the sun, oceans, etc. Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
