Good point, .410 was a challenge before and now is even less fun. That said the shortage is easing, I see Rogers, Cabela's and Midway all list .410 as available in-stock. Cabela's even has it that I could pick up locally. The last time I went to Wal-Mart, which was probably 3 months ago, they had 16ga in stock. Tri-Star is the brand you usually see at Wal-Mart, for this purpose it'd be fine. She's not going to put 10,000 rounds through it, or if she does she needs to move to a better place. I quite like an over/under shotgun, you "only" get 2 shots but frankly if 2 shots aren't enough you've probably got other issues. I've got 2x Stogers, 1 in 12ga, 1 in 20ga. I like the 20 as a carry gun, it's light and handy. O/U guns will be shorter overall too because of the lack of moving action. Back in 2003 a drunk crashed into my parent's driveway destroying both their cars. Dad got the Mossberg pump and as the kid (he started high school the year after I graduated, he'd have been maybe 22 at the time) got out of the car to run dad racked the action. The kid fell right to the ground and put his hands on the back of his head. When the police arrived they asked dad to unload the gun, he opened the chamber and showed them that it had never been loaded in the first place. In her case, a semi auto 12 gauge might work better. The muscle memory needed to operate a pump would delay her from defending herself if needed. The sound of a slide rack only works in the movies as a deterrent and telegraphs your location for the perp to shoot. If the criminal is psycho enough to kick your door in at 10 pm, the only sound that works to effect is an unexpected round of anything to the head. He waived bail this afternoon so he’s in jail for awhile. Cops all knew this guy was no good. Courts let him walk and this is what happened. Criminals seem to have more rights than victims, which might not be a bad thing, until it is. He’s a homicidal psychopath.
