Rich,

Hopefully, information can be reviewed in an unbiased manner, truth
can be identified and rational voters (is that an oxymoron?) will
make good choices...

Google provides a lot of the smoke, but the truth is in there..
There are times I reflect on the "smokey back rooms of political
decision making" and wonder whether what we now have is any better.

Take care,

Chuck

I was surprised nobody asked why I called ACORN "thieves". They are an
organization dedicated to helping the lower income strata obtain affordable
housing, much like Habitat for Humanity. HfH does it by teaching them how to
build a house, teaching them how to afford a house, and helping them build the
house. ACORN does it by breaking into a house, changing the locks, and teaching
the client how to be a trespasser/squatter.

I think that was his crowd when he was doing his "community
organizing." If not directly, then his group was directly aligned with
them as there aren't too many independent groups doing that sort of thing.

Your question though is excellent -- it would be nice to have a clear
picture of this guy. The Annenberg time is a major concern too, there
is some "cleansing" going on of the files that were given to UI.
Millions of $$ disappeared on BHO/Ayer's watch with no apparent results.

There are actually quite a few logical arguments for it. I'm not well

Seriously, whats wrong with that? If their believe system is so easy to
break down that a history teacher can destroy it (I think a philosophy
teacher would be more likely, and that *is* what he's supposed to do),
they never really believed their faith to begin with.

Re: [MBZ] Obama and political gobbeldegook

2008-09-10 Thread Curt Raymond
Its a shame, I was trying so hard to stay out of this.

I graduated a scant 9 years ago and I can tell you that at that time the little
state college I went to here in the bluest of blue states pushed us to think.
When I wrote position papers I usually took a view contrary to the professors
because it usually made the paper easier to write (and generally enjoy being
contrary). I got decent grades or they were at least in line with the effort I
put into the class. I was never pushed to accept any dogma of any kind.

When I entered college I was an ardant Republican with my one issue as gun
control. Now I'm a suffering moderate. I can't stand the Republican stand on
abortion, oil drilling or war and can't handle the Democrat's stance on gun
control, federal spending or vengeful enviromentalism.
The thing that bothers me most about both sides is the "if you're not with us
you're against us" mentality which has no point in a political landscape based
on compromise...

Anyway I'm so sick and tired of the whole election cycle and politics on the
list in general I've resorting to not even reading these messages and doing
work instead... I think I'm going to vote for Jenna Jameson in the coming
election, at least she doesn't hide what she is.

we'll probably disagree here but I want my kinds to adopt my values not some
guy I;m paying to teach history.. Religion is faith based - there's often
no logic to it and no one will find "evidence" that Jesus died on a Cross.

IMO, it doesn't have anything to do with teaching the kids to think. it's
about breaking down their belief systems.

Okay, I've gotta call bullshit here.

When Obama spoke in Jefferson, there was NO teleprompter. He gave a good
speech (no doubt memorized) but then answered audience questions for a half
hour. He didn't stumble, he didn't freeze up -- he talked just like he did
from what was obviously a prepared text. Like him or not, this guy knows his
stuff and doesn't need to pull out note cards to talk. He didn't talk in
generalities, he spoke in facts and figures and programs.

My shirt is lower left in the attached photo. Wife (Debbie) is wearing red,
beside me.

Lots of journalists there (including CNN) so I am sure if he was pulling
facts and figures out of his butt, he'd have been busted for it long ago.

Wanna let McCain try that trick?

This isn't something I saw on television. I was there, not six feet away
from him.

Every single person should call their religion into doubt. That way
they make a decision for themselves based on evidence and logical
arguments. IMO, you aren't truly religious unless you have made a
decision for yourself about what your belief system is. Otherwise
you're just religious out of habit (ie, you're just following in your
parents). Also, I think that your parents/family are doing you a
disservice if they don't make you question your beliefs.

So what is wrong with your religion being called into doubt?

Its called teaching people to think critically. This is the job of any
University. It is still very possible for someone with critical
thinking skills who has actively searched for data to be religious.
There are many logical/philosophical arguments either way.

Not being susceptible to an "attack" of critical thinking sounds like a
bad thing to me. And why isn't Atheism an appropriate alternative?
EVERYTHING is an alternative when you're trying to decide on your
religious belief system!!! It's not just a choice between Christianity
and Atheism!

Statistically or anecdotally? In the south the opposite is likely to
happen. Especially on the religion front. Also, there are always
jackass professors who will fail students based on *anything* they don't
agree on whether it is politics, religion, an interpretation of
Shakespeare, the color of the wall, etc. Not saying I agree with it,
but it isn't strictly related to religion/politics.

Actually, that's not far from the truth. Same for belief in God. One of
the things the professors attack is the students belief system - their
religion is called into doubt. Not sure why this happens but they seem to
want no competition with the dogma they plan to use to indoctrinate the
students. Naturally this doesn't happen to everyone and mot everyone is
susceptible to this kind of attack but some will turn. And the longer they
stay at their "institute of higher learning" the more likely the student is
to consider atheism an appropriate alternative.

the attack on conservatism happens at the same time using the same tactics.
Some students will have a good understanding of what conservatism consist of
as well as the basics of their religion making attacks less successful.
There have been instances of students making conservatove arguments &
getting failing grades from liberal professors. Some students have taped
the professors attacks on students and taken legal action against them.

I;m afraid the education system is largely made up of liberals just like the
media industry so the attack on conservatove values comes from several
directions. Same with the movie industry - they're heavily democratic and
their movies depict this - sometimes subtly sometimes not.

I wonder what that says about 'journalists' with inferior education (e.g

Ahh yes but these people are claiming to be experts in running the
country and as such feel that they should be in charge.
A lot depends on what the question is, stuff like "how do you propose to
get the US out of Iraq" is pretty standard stuff.
However a good politician always has a standby standard response to just
about anything, along the lines of first attacking the opposition and
then making some broad statements which don't commit them to do anything.
Taking the above question as an example, you could go on for hours but
not actually promise anything.
