Agh, can somebody point to something on this car that makes it not a turd? The
drill chuck to turn the idle control (I assume thats what its for) is amazing.

What are the black things on the front door panels up by the door lever?

Martha is not a miracle worker.

That thing is ready for the recycler and should be crushed.

The really scary part is the Minnie Winnie that's in the background.

2006-01-04 Thread Hans Neureiter
Since my new paint job is now a little over a week old I decided to wax the
car.
I made a gruesome discovery.
Especially since I got my ass chewed out for having two stars at the front
of my E300D, I am afraid that the penalty will be steep.
My rear end reads since the paint rejuvenation: " TURBODIESEL . *
... 300SD "
Folks, I peg for forgiveness.

$38k would be a lot of money to pay for a partially assembled 302

one with a proper 427 engine either.
I don't know anything about fake gullwings, but it seems high to me
for one with a Ford 302 in it.

What you describe is exactly what SHOULD happen when there is a problem
with the preglow system, NOT the ignition switch. Usually, the problem
is one or two bad glow plugs (they should measure 0.6 ohms when the
engine is cold and at most twice that when hot).

The system is designed to prevent the dash light from illumining the
FIRST time the key is turned on when there is a problem. If you turn the
key on, off, on, off, on the light can usually be coaxed to illuminate
even when there is a failure.

You have been NOTIFIED that there is a preglow problem. The next prudent
move is to diagnose it! It is almost surely NOT a fuse - as all the 190D
2.5ts I've seen had an electronic overload protection circuit rather
than a fuse in the preglow relay.

how can you tell they're cloth seats? They have the seatcovers on all of

I like the question about wether it has a sunroof now or in the past.
Perhaps you mericans make a habit of welding up sunroofs.

D'oh, you're right, Sunil. I mistook the black side panels on the
seatcovers for the actual seat fabric peeking through on one of the interior
pictures. They still could well be cloth, though.

I love this moronic comment: "DID THIS CAR HAVE A SUNROOF AT ONE TIME?"
What do they think, somebody welded it shut and painstakingly Bondo'd and
repainted over the evidence?

The wooden locking tabs are broken off the shifter cover, which is why it

I'm cheap too, but selectively so. Otherwise, I'd still be driving my 1969
Plymouth Valiant. Sure, it's a little aggravating to replace the plastic
headrest gear on my S350, but I really like having a headrest that goes up
and down at the touch of a switch. You can buy an entire Plymouth for the
cost of a Mercedes blower motor. Of course the Plymouth did not have AC to
begin with. My, aren't we an odd bunch?

Those seats do look like they belong on a speedboat/skiboat.
What really interests me is the fact that the seller just bought
the thing on eBay, did not leave feedback for the seller, is quickly
reselling it on ebay for less than he paid for it, but there's nothing
wrong with the car.

I had a similar MB - but mine was a '69 280S - much the same except for
a larger engine. In his description he claims it;s a "rare" MB the only
reason it might be rare is because most of the others have been eaten by the
rust bug. You can tell this one has some rust in the front by the way the
front bumper droops - the main bumper support which also carried the
radiator was notorious for rusting as was the rockers, headlight buckets,
lower fenders & floors. Fixing the rust was a *lot* of fun. Those seat
covers are hideous! Obviously aftermarket - I thought only the center
sections had been replaced until I noticed the beading was light blue also.
;-\ Amazing what some people find attractive. Sorry if I offended anyones
sensitive feelings. ;-)

Have a nice weekend --

It even has an AOPA sticker in the rear window!
Our first MB was a '70 220D, "4 on the tree", but it was off-white, not
that sickly green.

Re: [MBZ] Oh my

2022-12-10 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I think you all should chip in and help me obtain my life long dream of a green
on green 115.

This obsession started when I was 16 looking for my first car. I recall looking
at 3 different places. One was at a used car dealer that sold cars at an indoor
warehouse. That car was a 76 300D green on green. I later kicked myself that I
didn’t buy that one. Next went to a guy who had an ad in the Autotrader
magazine. He owned a paint and body shop for semis and the ad was a pic of the
back of this shop with all these parts cars back there. Went and looked and he
had a white on red 76 300D, and a 74 240D that was that dark burgundy. It just
had a new paint job on it (the guy owned a body shop), and was amazing. Didn’t
buy it either. Last place was at the old VW dealer in Tulsa, Colorado beige 79
240D auto with 48k miles. Bought that one for $5500.

Now in later years I’m obsessed with finding a green on green or a white with
red interior 115.

I think you need to take the proceeds of your latest cat sale or clear out some

Sell half a dozen of your scrap cars and get it.

You're not getting any younger. Better to have a few cars that you can actally
use and enjoy than a lot of cars slowly rotting away.

I think we all want to hold out for that very specific, perfect one that hold

"Pursed lips disapproval"?
I just suggested that you may have sent it to the wrong list, because it wasn't
MBZ related, nor was it family friendly. I enjoyed it, but would have sent it to

5. Original Mercedes paint. [where ever there is still paint]

7. Tires have high tread [just slightly dry rotted, but the hold air.]

It's a W115 type - right? The blower motor works fine - at
least it did 30 years ago.

Converted to a Chevy engine - but I can't seem to find the engine
and one of the old motor mounts is still in there, but it should
just bolt together.

It comes with a divider window. It's in the truck, I think, and I
haven't ever seen the regulator for it nor has the body been
altered so there isn't a place to mount it yet. I can show you
where it should go.

Please call - but I'm not including a 'phone number.

I was told the same thing when I paid big bucks to have all the rust cut out,
new steel welded in, new paint, etc on the rusty side of my car (and had the

no rust, which is what concerned me. Rust is the enemy.
