[MBZ] Viton tubing for injector return lines

2009-02-20 Thread harry watkins
I had a failure on one of these lines and thought I would share the details.
The day after they were installed on my 85 TD, I had to replace the valve cover
gasket. I removed one end of one line and slid it back on after repairs was
made. It started leaking immediately. It came off and on without requiring
abuse.

This was only a one time event so is not a good test, however, its not for me
anymore unless I have the wrong stuff. Anyone know? Bought new to me in
November.

HIGH-TEMPERATURE VITON RUBBER TUBING, FIRM, 1/8" ID, 1/4" OD, 1/16" WALL, BLACK

[MBZ] Viton tubing for injector return lines?

2015-08-29 Thread Craig via Mercedes
In March, I replaced the leaking injector return lines on our '82
240D/3.0 with some tubing from our local hardware store.

Since that wasn't viton and should be replaced before it fails, I'm
wondering where others have gotten the viton tubing.

If you have bought some, please let me know.

Thanks,

Craig

The stuff that Rusty sells is listed as 3.2x1.9mm, or 1/8 ID x a bit more than
1/16 wall. You got the right size, but it's possible the barbs cut up the inside
of the hose when you pulled it off. I don't recall messing with anything but
throttle linkage to take the valve cover off my 300SD.

I must have routed that line to the outside of the throttle without leaving
enough room. I actually gave the car away after I got new fluids, battery,
wipers and filters installed, so I can't go look.

Again, this was only one time event, but I don't recall that occurring with
the cloth type that Rusty sells.

The cloth type self-destruct on removal. According to Mercedes, you
should NEVER reuse them.

I just bought some more back in January, great stuff. Doesn't give the braided
look for the original but stays flexible and seals well as near as I can tell
forever.

Speaking of fuel lines, I changed the fuel filter on my W220 today.

That in and of itself wasn’t a big deal, but it was the first time I had worked
with the “Clik-r” style hose clamps.

http://kgs-ind.com/products/other/clic-r/

They’re all over the car, and in anticipation of working with them, I bought
one of the special pliers that are used to release and secure them.

While it took me a few minutes to figure out exactly how to release them, once
I got it the rest were easy. They were just as simple to secure when I was
done, too. All in all it took maybe 10 minutes total to swap my fuel filter,
if that.

POS! I'll take it off your hands if ya pay me $500.

SO how much did these special pliers cost?

Are they at FLAPS, or stealer, or?

Looks like a removable pex clamp.

Some of the pex clamps can be clamped with a end nipper.

I am trying tyvek fuel line, then yellow stuff for lawnmowers and
string trimmers, chainsaws, etc. I don't know yet if it will hold up
as well as viton, but I didn't want to pay $8 freight for $3 hose
from mcMaster. I could not find anyplace local to buy Viton.

$18 on Amazon. Nice cast and machined one, not the low end stamped steel
version.

Never seen them at FLAPS, dealer sells them, though. Never had to buy one.
