The hybrids make sense, and I suppose one would find the touch screen
useful after getting used to it. Windows 8 and the touchscreen computers
received a lot of criticism when they first came out, but that seems to
have died down.

the criticism of windoze 8 was that it only wished to accommodate
touchscreen users and therefore sucked on typical setups

Not if you talk to people actually using it. 8.1 is better but still crap. I'm
given to understand Win9 is on fast track for 2015 release.

I understand what they were trying to do, marry the tablet and PC world, but
the implementation is an epic fail. Win8 needs the ability to turn off tiles
which are stupid on a real computer and bring back the start button for real,
not the 8.1 abomination.

I disagree - I'm using W8.1 on a desktop. I do have a touch screen monitor,
and find it useful sometimes, but I just go immediately to the desktop,
and never look back. I don't find the tiles annoying because I ignore them
and rarely even see them.
I've had no problems with 8.1, using it for digital mode amateur radio and

I ran W8.1 on my desktop at the school district due to the need for it to

I hated it. That tile crap was annoying eye candy, while I could see it might
have value on a touch enabled device. It was worthless for a normal workstation.
