Re: [MBZ] might be interesting
You'd think maybe they'd find dealers who would be willing to provide title services as a donation-in-kind. Tax writeoff for the dealer, plus goodwill. More $$$ for the charity. Maybe not enough kind-hearted dealers around? On the other hand if the charity is volunteer-run, it sort of makes sense to keep the workload to a minimum, otherwise you lose volunteers. Which brings us back to government/charity think: free money beats no money. About 20 years ago, a local fire chief signed a contract with telemarketers. The telemarketers did all the work, and at the end of the campaign they'd cut a check to the FD for 4% of the gross. Which was all well and good, until the details became public, and the average working stiff was quite irate to learn that giving $100 of hard earned cash to the FD meant flushing $96 down the tube from their point of view. Re: [MBZ] might be interesting
There was some sort of charity outfit in Houston that would get donated cars and have a live auction once a month at a lot they had in a fairly rough part of town. I went to a couple just for grins. Some of the cars were total junk, others not too bad. I remember some kid and his mother were there once and bought a half-decent 300SD for $800, the kid was ecstatic. It was a reasonable deal at the time. Another one I remember was a clapped-out Vega 2 ol boys bought to make a dragster, it went for some fairly big money, like $2k if I recall but they were happy with the deal. The auctions lasted a year or two then faded away, no idea what happened to the organization. --FT Sent from iPhone > On Jan 19, 2021, at 6:52 AM, Dan Penoff via Mercedes > wrote: > > They don’t care, because it’s essentially free money for them. > > My local NPR station has a guy that coordinates these donations. They don’t care, because it’s essentially free money for them. My local NPR station has a guy that coordinates these donations. That is, he makes the calls to the service that disposes of the cars/boats/whatever. They never touch or see the vehicle, they just call a service that picks it up, determines the best way to get rid of it (many times it’s CoPart) and sends them the check after deducting his fees. -D > On Jan 18, 2021, at 9:45 PM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes > wrote: > > On 2021-01-18 19:51, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: >> Too bad you have to have a dealers license or use a broker for TN >> https://www.copart.com/lot/53868750/clean-title-1985-mercedes-benz-500-sel-tn-memphis > > Around here, the donation places don't want to mess with retitling, so they > just leave it on the donor's title and sell it to dealers who can reassign > the title.
