I think you're right, and I've made one of those. Just took a look under the hood, all I see is the square diagnostic port by the battery. OBDII didn't start until '96 right? Yep that’s where you hook the blink tool up to various ports. Some of them have a button in the port with a light so you don’t need the tool. Mine have always been intermittent failures, which is why I suspect they didn’t throw codes. Well the intermittent no-start is no longer intermittent, it is full time. Fortunately I've got three other diesel 124s that run just fine, so shift to the easiest to get out of the drive and motor on.
