I would not try, unless it's to pull the seats out before sending it to the
crusher. Two girls wrecked my 190D turbo on the right side. The doors were all
shut after the crash. Girl in the passenger seat kicked the door open to get out.
That door will NEVER close again. I had to ratchet strap it to the steering
wheel to trailer the car home.

You can also file a complaint with the state insurance commissioner office,
that ramps up the pain as well.

Too bad the interior color is not blue, and you're not closer to SC.

About 15 years ago, my son totaled the 1978 SL C when he hit a curb at
relatively low speed, bending the frame. I thought the insurance company's
offer of $5500 was actually quite decent, so I didn't appeal...

How much would they charge you, i.e., what is the salvage value?

For our '94 E420, the salvage value was $187.xx, so I jumped at the
chance. I drove it home slowly from Santa Fe the back way. Kaleb came and
picked it up a few months ago with the plan to get it back on the road.

For our '95 E320, since it was rolled and since we were in the middle of
getting out of our house, I didn't even ask. (With it rolled, I could not
have been sure the engine wasn't damaged by running without oil pressue.)

Sad to say, but it may be you need the services of a lawyer to fight your
own insurance company. I've had two friends in the past 14 months who had
to do that to recover the correct value from their totaled cars.

The end result in one case was the offer to settle raised by $7000.
Ultimately, the party that struck your car insurance company should
compensate you, I believe.

Tell them firmly they will replace it with one of equal or better
value, or pay you enough to replace it with one of equal value and
your time, or they can meet in court, and have their shenanigans
documented on the internet.

Hold your ground and don't be in a hurry to settle, don't take any
check except for full settlement.

I'm sure you know all this , but it does not hurt to have reinforcements.

If they have a local office, go in frequently and remind them they
have not made a fair offer yet, and ask for a fair offer.

the $3000 is probably low tradein in some book. That is not what you
can buy one for. If they can buy one that is satisfactory for under
retail, tell them to have at it.

 Hello All:

Tragically someone sideswiped and totaled my 1995 E320 Wagon. The
   right
side and all bumpers are destroyed. The left side, interior and
mechanicals are all functioning, as well as all heating and air
conditioning items. They will allow me to keep if for a certain
consideration.. Just wanted to find out if anyone needed any
 items
   from
this vehicle, and if so if it would cover the cost of keeping it
  for
 parts...

 Let me know please..

They did a valuation through a company called CCC which took every E320
wagon on auto trader. compared mileage options and supposed conditions. I
tried to tell her to just replace the car but she said they don't do that,
take this or leave it basically...

Tell them firmly they will replace it with one of equal or better value,
or pay you enough to replace it with one of equal value and your time, or
they can meet in court, and have their shenanigans documented on the
 internet.

Hold your ground and don't be in a hurry to settle, don't take any check
 except for full settlement.

I'm sure you know all this , but it does not hurt to have reinforcements.

If they have a local office, go in frequently and remind them they have
not made a fair offer yet, and ask for a fair offer.

the $3000 is probably low tradein in some book. That is not what you can
buy one for. If they can buy one that is satisfactory for under retail,
tell them to have at it.

Give em a couple weeks, unless you have a lawyer relative or buddy
that will send them a nastygram threat. If you have a lawyer in
hand, send the nastygram now.

The older the case becomes, the more anxious to settle it they get.
Most inscos have alarms that go off after 30 days.

Practice saying NO! NO! NO1 NO!

Tell them firmly they will replace it with one of equal or better value,
or pay you enough to replace it with one of equal value and your time, or
they can meet in court, and have their shenanigans documented on the
 internet.

Hold your ground and don't be in a hurry to settle, don't take any check
except for full settlement you are satisfied with

Their game is to wear you down. Your patience will wear them down,
and the more tired of the game they get, the higher the amount of the
check gets.

Now is a good time to get a neck pain as a result of the accident and
go to the doc.
