Re: [MBZ] Added remote doorlocks to the S124
recall, I had a choice of tapping into the hatch, passenger, or drivers door signal. I went with passenger door, and the only bad thing is that if you use the keyless entry to lock it, you will set the alarm off if you manually unlock from the passenger door. No big deal if you know not to do it. This is why you do _not_ use either front door wire to do the installation! The trunk/hatch wire _also_ arms/disarms the factory alarm system. The doors, because they can be unlocked from the inside, have extra switches to do this. Go back and move your goodies to the yellow wire. -- Jim

Has anyone successfully wired in an electric vacuum pump (a la 126/201/124) with the specific intent to install remote locks? [in 123] No, you just need to add one regular motorized actuator to the existing vacuum system and all will be well. Cheaper than converting, and _much_ easier. -- Jim
Re: [MBZ] Added remote doorlocks to the S124
Do you have kids? Ever have to hold onto grocery bags and kids at the same time, while simultaneously fumbling for the correct key to open a door? It's typically a much more leisurely struggle to fumble for the correct ignition key, once you're already sitting down and the kids are safely belted. The 123 series really needs this feature, since the driver's door must be unlocked in order for all to unlock - major PITA with regard to the aforementioned scenario, believe you me. Re: [MBZ] Added remote doorlocks to the S124
I have used a bull-dog remote start unit in a 420sel (just for the door locks, no starting), and a automate in our 1990 300TE. Both were found on ebay for around $15.00. On both installs, Jim Cathy helped me out...thanks again Jim. You do need a unit that will extend the pulse. Pretty much the only reason you need to wire up some additional wires on it for programing. On the 420, I got fancy and made the signal lights flash upon locking and unlocking. This was pretty easy becuase the unit was in the trunk. The wagon's was under the rear seat, so I stopped once I got it to unlock. If I recall, I had a choice of tapping into the hatch, passenger, or drivers door signal. I went with passenger door, and the only bad thing is that if you use the keyless entry to lock it, you will set the alarm off if you manually unlock from the passenger door. No big deal if you know not to do it. I found a Crimestopper unit (don't remember the exact model) on Ebay for about $30 that included the relays in one small package. Very easy install as well.
