Check out your state's guidelines on this. My son was hit (other driver's fault) while driving our 84 300D turbo. Their insurance co. lowballed us on the appraisal. I researched and eventually got them to do a different appraisal that gave us fair value. As another stated the appraisal should be based on comparable recent sales. Recent restoration costs can also be used as evidence with a car of this age. Good luck! Local ads for cars in similar condition. Insurance companies use classified ads for older cars and will lowball you with prices from every junk car in your area.
