Thanks Barry. That was insightful. I also hear that Purple Power is good
stuff:) did you have to adjust pop pressures with the shims?

Dismantled them and soaked the parts for about 30 minutes. They came pretty
clean just scrubbed them with an old tooth brush. I had also purchased a
brass round brush to rod out the interior surfaces of the holder but not
sure that was even necessary. After scrubbing with the tooth brush I rinsed
the parts off with a sprayer on the garden hose, blew them dry with
compressed air then coated right away with a thick coat of WD-40 to prevent
rusting. I then lapped the various surfaces as required followed by a final
clean and more WD-40.Good luck on your project.

I went ahead and ordered the Mercedesource Monarch injector nozzles
with rebuild kit and tester. I was going to get rebuilds from Rusty but
decided that I was interested in learning about this whole rebuild
process instead:)

Re: [MBZ] Rebuilding injectors

2012-09-02 Thread Dieselhead

Sorry, I think I mis-spoke. I meant that I think the nozzle HOLDERS
are interchangeable. The nozzle itself is engine type specific. I
was suggesting that while the 220 nozzle HOLDERS may work in your
OM616, it may be simpler just to clean the original holders, and
install the new Monark nozzles in the original holders. Especially
if you think the 220D nozzles may be new. Sell them to someone else
with a 220D. There are a few around.

Thanks, I'll check the part no. on the 220D ones. Since the nozzles
look new they must have been rebuilt. I'll run them through the pop
tester and see how they perform and possibly just use in my 240D. Do
you know if pop pressur is the same?

banjo fittings and hard return line. That was 30 years ago, so I am
not sure what they came off of. I ordered them from a place in CO.
Pull one of your nozzles and compare.

That said, it should not take more than 4-6 hours to pull your
nozzles, swap nozzes, test and calibrate and then reinstall. Make
sure you have new injector seals. Be sure to keep everything
cleaner than your doctor's surgery. If you can dedicate a day, just
do it.

Folks

someone asked what i'd charge to rebuild injectors

i guess for listmembers, $20 each plus parts and return shipping

i'd love to do some more

new nozzles cost about $20 and shims cost about $1

this would be ultrasonic cleaning, assembling and adjusting pressures
within 50 lbs and spray testing

i can also build some out of your supplies used parts if you have a couple
of sets of old ones
