Re: [MBZ] the 300E has been sold

2010-07-20 Thread Dillon, Meade M CIV SPAWARSYSCEN-ATLANTIC, 53310
That T-bird had bucket seats with a big console between. He removed the
console and operated the pedals with left foot and steered with left
hand while sitting in right seat. Same procedure was used by most of
the rural mail men (and women). Lots of gravel roads - always at least
two spares in trunk! No cell phones in those days (early 80's) so if
you ran out of spares, had to knock on someone's door and ask to use the
phone, which was probably a party line.

A mail delivery vehicle with a 429? I guess gas was a little cheaper
then... ;)

Did he modify it for right-hand drive? Out in the boonies where I live,
I have noticed that some of the rural carriers have factory RHD vehicles

ingenious homemade conversions using bicycle sprockets and a chain to

Problem is you put so many miles on whatever you drive that you flat
wear it out in just a few years.

Around here they drive Explorers, Cherokees, and Trailblazers (except my
current carrier has a new non-Hybrid Chevy extended cab pickup) and they
sit on the right, driving with left foot and left hand. If I were making
my own vehicle for that sort of duty, I'd do a series hybrid with a 15hp
Kubota/Cub Cadet diesel and hub motors in all four wheels. One of those
domestic market RHD Japanese mini trucks would be a good chassis for it.

Sell it locally? I always thought it sad when i'd sell a car in town and
then see it periodically (my '63 Falcon for example).

Sold to a couple in Jefferson who will be passing it along to their son in
Ames, who will supposedly reimburse them.

I had a very nice stack of hundred dollar bills counted out to me in the
garage over the lunch hour -- that is all I care about. I have the cash,
they have the 300E and the title, and my bill of sale said as is, no
implied warranty etc.

Considering what I spent on the Quantum and the 300E (purchase and repairs),
I am somewhere breaking even and a $250 profit.

Sale of the 300E covered about 50% purchase price for the '98 LeSabre.
