Mike,

Personally, I think you should get the award for even understanding what the hell Matteo is saying. I've read every one of his emails and I still can't even figure out his point half the time. He does, however, seem like an evil tempered little jerk.

Might I request (for the sake of my in-box and my love of meteorites, which
I assume you share) that the combatants confine any muck-slinging to
exchanges OFF THE LIST. Did both of you come down with brain fever? I
don't recall either of you acting in such a childish way to such an extent
previously. I can handle an occasional snide remark, but I fear you are
driving new List members away by burying useful information and friendly
exchanges under what my father used to call a "blizzard of shit."

Well hopefully the measured responses they've read today will have shown them we're not all raving lunatics :-) To anyone new reading this, welcome aboard, and please don't take this weekend as typical. Think of it as a solar flare... they happen, cause a lot of disruption and rfaise temperatures, but eventually everything settles down again.

Mike has a very good point. If the participants in these verbal tirades
knew how much damage they do to the field of meteorite collecting, maybe
they would think twice before hitting the "enter" key.

Ever wonder why, on a list sporting a membership of 500 or so, we see
virtually the same few dozen people post day-after-day?

I receive a lot of off list email from individual (newcomers to the list)

Mike,

As my best friend - who now lives in Italy - married an Italian girl, and I was
lucky enough to be invited over there to be his Best Man and had an amazing
time (I think, there was so much wine a lot of the wedding reception is a bit
of a blur to be honest...!), I can assure you that Italians are generous,
family-loving, passionate and considerate peple on the whole. True, they drive
like absolute lunatics, and have tempers that can ignite like a Saturn 5
engine, and can't walk past a shop window without checking themselves out (but
you can't blame them for that when 99% of them look like they've just come off
a catwalk anyway ;-) I think they must ship all the ugly kids off to some
island somewhere, cos seriously, everyone is a supermodel; walking down an Italian
street is so distracting it's unbelievable..! ) but you'll be hard pressed to
meet a more welcoming people, believe me. I know you're being severely provoked
here, by some truly disgraceful and despicable insults, but don't tar them all
with the same brush, ok? That's like saying all we Brits are umbrella-carrying,
pinstripe-suit wearing, bowler-hatted hee-haws... or that all Americans are
Hawaiian shirt-wearing, burger-chomping, gun-toting... well, you get the idea.
Stereotypes... dangerous things, you know?

The world's an angry enough place right now as it is without hurling this kind
of language about. It's hard not to rise to it, I know, but in situations like
this there's much more dignity in taking a deep breath and not stooping to the
other guy's level. I think - no, I know - you're a better man than that.

Take care out there, and forget this nonsense and just try to keep your mind on
getting out - and back here to your friends on the List - in one piece, ok? :-)

Hi Mike,

this is just the personal and sick opinion of Matteo.
Especially the people, who collect meteorites or ar in this business have a
larger horizon and a differnet perspective.
>From a point of view of a meteorite approaching the little blue ball in
space, there is no place for simple minded nationalisms.
So please write "he" instead of "they".

Mike,

As my best friend - who now lives in Italy - married an Italian girl, and I was lucky enough to be invited over there to be his Best Man and had an amazing time (I think, there was so much wine a lot of the wedding reception is a bit of a blur to be honest...!), I can assure you that Italians are generous, family-loving, passionate and considerate peple on the whole. True, they drive like absolute lunatics, and have tempers that can ignite like a Saturn 5 engine, and can't walk past a shop window without checking themselves out (but you can't blame them for that when 99% of them look like they've just come off a catwalk anyway ;-) I think they must ship all the ugly kids off to some island somewhere, cos seriously, everyone is a supermodel; walking down an Italian street is so distracting it's unbelievable..! ) but you'll be hard pressed to meet a more welcoming people, believe me. I know you're being severely provoked here, by some truly disgraceful and despicable insults, but don't tar them all with the same brush, ok? That's like saying all we Brits are umbrella-carrying, pinstripe-suit wearing, bowler-hatted hee-haws... or that all Americans are Hawaiian shirt-wearing, burger-chomping, gun-toting... well, you get the idea. Stereotypes... dangerous things, you know?

The world's an angry enough place right now as it is without hurling this kind of language about. It's hard not to rise to it, I know, but in situations like this there's much more dignity in taking a deep breath and not stooping to the other guy's level. I think - no, I know - you're a better man than that.

Take care out there, and forget this nonsense and just try to keep your mind on getting out - and back here to your friends on the List - in one piece, ok? :-)

Oh, by the way, I forgot, do you remember a few years
back, when the Italian theives shot and killed a 2
year old American child, the family was on holiday,
they tried to rob them and killed the baby, what did
the Americans do? The family gave the babies organs to
other sick Italian children, so that they might live.
Did America scream for them to be hunted down, no.
It is lunacy to judge a nation or it's people by what
any individual does. you have now shown that you are a

DO NOT EVER try to buy anything from me again, I have
blocked you from ebay, and will promptly tell you

This is what Matteo writes, I hope every American sees
this, you have a guy who spits in our faces, and hates
us, do any of you want to do business with that kind
of person? My grandfather fought and was shot in
France, fighting to free them from Nazi Germany. What
do they say now, they hate us.
Yes, some pilots caused a terrible accident, killing
some people. Matteo, do you remember the Italian air
force flying team that screwed the pooch in Germany,
at the airshow, killing over 100 people? Oh, that was
just an accident too. You are a piece of human filth.

Anyway, I dont want to be thrown off the list for this
useless argument with you, since you are so dense, no

Sorry for the poor typing, it is not the esiest

Matteo, I am losing my temper now, If you call me a
boy again, I will break your face! I spent over 4
years in the Army, and that was 10 years ago! I think
that I am no longer a boy. Call me what you like, all
of your DAR AL GANI meteorites are STOLEN, do you
think that Libya allows them to be legally taken,
millions of dollar of stones leaving the country
without the government making a penny! You are a
hipocrite! do not say another word about me Matteo
until you look into a mirror and proclaim yourself a
sinless god.

End of story, Bob saved Zagami. corruption is the norm
in all third world countries, try to fight it and you
will get killed. Of course you wouldnt know that, you
are too cowardly to leave Italy, see the world, take
risks.

Re: [meteorite-list] Re: Pardon me, dude

2003-10-11 Thread M come Meteorite Meteorites
>From Space Rocks:

Haag finaly had his Mars rock - if he could just hang
on to it. He left Kaduna the same day and headed
southwest to the city of Lagos on the Atlantic coast.
There he was stopped cold by an official who was
checking baggage. The meteorites set off the metal
detectors. " What is this rock?" the official
asked.Haag told her it was a meteorite given to him by
the museum director of Kaduna. "That can't leave the
country " she said coldly and set it aside. Haag
grabbed it back, determinated to " walk across Africa
barefoot or swim the Atlantic Ocean " to get it to
Tucson. The main problem was that he had no papers
from the museum releasing the meteorite. The line
behind him was filled with impatient travelers, and
the plane was scheduled to leave momentarily. The
official was under pressure. " Well, I've got these
papers " Haag said, and thrust all his Nigerian money
on the table. " I have something back here " he
continued and turned around to retrieve a bag. In that
instant the " papers " vanished. With a smile and a
thank-you, the official motioned Haag to the waiting
plane. This meteorite had a price on the world market
of $1 milion. ((c) R.Norton )

well, this is corruption and illegal export. Our
Indian boy will make the same one?
