Re: [Mikrotik] RB532 AP Issues

2008-11-26 Thread Randy Cosby
Just curious if the improvements are being seen in the 3.16 version, or
if the wireless-test package has to be enabled to see the improvements.

Thanks,

Randy

That's actually, per Mikrotik. (And several of my customers.) :-)

According to a post on the forums (I can't recall the thread), the
wireless drivers were updated in 3.15 standard wireless package.
The wireless-test package (3.15+) includes some updates specifically
to the NStreme protocol.

I have a RB532, running 3.16, as a 2.4 AP serving about 35 clients. We had
switched from a Tranzeo 6600 as when the traffic increased on the tranzeo,
performance dropped off. I'm seeing the same problem now with the RB532.
When the unit starts passing over 2mb or 3mb of data, the whole system slows
down. I'm sitting on it now and my ping times are around 500ms and i'm only
getting 150k speeds. The RB532 is acting just as an AP-Bridge, no routing,
no packet shaping. The shaping is done on a different box further up the

Re: [Mikrotik] RB532 AP Issues

2008-11-25 Thread Mac Dearman
Where did you get that number (350pps) from Chris?

If you are relying on Torch for that number - - you will be surprised at the
different packet count by running packet sniffer.

Re: [Mikrotik] RB532 AP Issues

2008-11-25 Thread Chris Gotstein
Yeah, it was about 4mb when i did the reading. I think i found the
problem. Had a user downloading something off www.moparisthebest.com
using 2 public IP addresses, so he was getting twice the bandwidth he
should. Shut him down and all is good. He's got some explaining to do
as to why he removed the router and put in a switch.

Chris,

350pps on a single AP is a BUNCH unless you see 4Mbps of traffic passing
through that interface. If you don't have that much bandwidth being used
there - - it absolutely is IPVD!

I just logged into one of my core MT routers and I am running between
446ppsTX and about the same RX pps and am moving a total of a little over
5Mbps total for that amount of pps.

I'd start by turning this off. Forwarding is not needed to allow

Downgrade from 3.x to 2.9.x WILL remove ALL wireless configuration.
Other than that, you will be able to reconfigure it, but wireless
configuration will be lost.

/interface wireless set [find] default-forwarding=no
