DisplayLink or external video card support
Hello, Thanks for answering to the previous post, indeed. What I'm actually trying to realize is how to connect a small portable screen (to use in vertical orientation, for notes and sketches) with an hdmi/vga connection.. to my station without free display ports (DP and HDMI ports are already used); further more my station has no usb-c ports. Looking some products I realized about the existance of DisplayLink products (certified gigs) or similar usb-a external video cards, that seem quite expensive (DisplayLink) or quite new to the market (Aug/End 2023) expecially in their hdmi version, eg: https://amzn.eu/d/2MWQDbX https://amzn.eu/d/6Xpnq6l My economics are really very few and dispite all of their bad advertisement against any Unix support.. do you think there is any practical chance to render the video flow of my OpenBSD by an external usb-a device ? Re: certbot in cron - best way?
I think the best way is always to keep things in control, safe and reliable.. And often your setup directly depend on a diversified architecture, maybe with docker in the middle. Indeed before to lose public access on certificates or lost site configuration I think two times to realize a complete automation. However every setup has its resources (and economics too). There are setups that concive software orchestrators, with versioning and backups or an ecosystem alike. Other setup simply doesn't own all these resources for fair reasons.. Automation dependends a lot on this pletoria of stuff. Finally, certbot is very opensource like software but.. *doesn't make the coffee too* (an italian euphemism to avoid false expectations for miracles..). > N0\/\/@r€Z > -- > /\/\@rk€T Feb 20, 2024 16:46:44 m...@phosphorus.com.br: > Which setup are you using to automatically update certs with certbot, in > cron, and keeping /etc/httpd.conf updated accordingly?

Re: Some specific software is changing my future..
When I came to code my RADXIDE in Tcl/Tk indeed I found me in the doubt to stay or not at the hosting system game, or better if to choose to implement all the intecom subsystem. Well for me the final decision was easy: the intecom subsystem indeed was already coded but to protect my software (and to save me days of work in adaptation) I decided "to skip" on that. Hello, I need to say that most of the attacks I usually receive in Xfce are on the file manager (Thunar) or on the console. So the software most often open on my station. Do you think is it possible to pay them a special "sandboxing" of these software in addition to the underwood system protections of OpenBSD? The most I care for "my friends", crackers, is clearly about the window system management and for what is my few knowledge of that part of the system the underwood intecom system between windows and the framing window system (mdi windows and relative window access, disable / enable normal, modal access, etc). I moved the following statements just after it: # dns pass in quick proto udp from any port domain to any pass out quick proto udp from any to any port domain # icmp pass in quick inet proto icmp all icmp-type 0 pass in quick inet proto icmp all icmp-type 3 pass in quick inet proto icmp all icmp-type 11 But indeed as you are dealing with routing traffic among interfaces you should go eventually experimenting including these dns and icmps of my tip. Re: FAT names exceeding spec length
Thanks for the reply. Absolutely perceived, I haven't counted them. But I counted the 8.3 format for true: all the info contained in my ebook title was lost (but experimenting it is no problem). Now I checked better. Indeed it is Opera web browser that is able to save on Android 11 exceeding the name limits: Tcl_Tk 8.5 Programming Cookbook -- Bert Wheeler -- 2011 -- Packt -- 9781849512992 -- 9ed273d2c640e4ae4761242a2c28d31c -- Capitan Cloud Ebook Repo.pdf Android as per your guessing is enforcing the name limits here and there, "enough" well. However, this the situation. Cutting to 8.3 format or being more conservative? That could be the question for you. But indeed I leave the subect to you now. == Nowarez Market Dec 5, 2023 12:29:30 Anders Andersson : > Wonder if OP is actually seeing more than 255 unique "User-perceived > characters" or just more than 255 bytes?

I limit myself to report the problem of my system. And the problem of OpenBSD in this case is the easie to let me lose the info contained in the filenames coming from Android. Then the fix doesn't depend on my attitude. == Nowarez Market Dec 4, 2023 11:59:23 Michael Hekeler : >>> To be honest I don't understand the problem you described. >> >> It is simple, when you come from Android (tested Android 11 tablet) with >> file names exceeding the FAT spec >> these are cut to 8.3 format in OpenBSD. > > > You mean android allows to create filenames >255 on FAT32? > Then you should report this non-compliance on android > (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/filesystem-functionality-comparison#limits)
wired rdiff-backup doc
Hello, 7.4, rdiff-backup After the upgrade to 7.4 I have been invited to update my outdated command line to *the new one* by rdiff-backup. The puzzle was not so easy to solve as "rdiff-backup --new --help" suggested a good mix of options; "man rdiff-backup" gave out an other set of options and two examples, one with the [kind of operation] declared just after rdiff-backup, the other one with the [kind of operation] declared just after the option lists; a little overwhelming: when you make a mistake the shell show off the *good options* suggesting among the others --new, --nonew, etc (not recognized) and missing to list all the various --except options among the others. I save you from quoting the options listed by "rdiff-backup backup --help". In the end after 10min of tries I was able to launch my backup.. == Nowarez Market
Re: FAT names exceeding spec length
Michael Hekeler : > To be honest I don't understand the problem you described. It is simple, when you come from Android (tested Android 11 tablet) with file names exceeding the FAT spec these are cut to 8.3 format in OpenBSD. Android doesn't give any hint on the situation because it is somewhat flexible and has no constraints. Indeed when you are to move out these files by filenames 255 chars longer you get about the prb only when you are in front of the the 8.3 filenames on your station. -- Nowarez Market

As already mention by others, looking to our own xrandr -q output where the LVDM voice is missing it is evident that the problem is related to your hardware configuration. Following the suggestion of Crystal you can try managing it by the xorg.conf disabling also some of these options: Section "ServerFlags" # Option "AutoAddGPU" "on" # Option "AutoBindGPU" "on" EndSection Try to play also with: xrandr --listproviders xrandr --setprovideroutputsource == Nowarez Market

There is also some ironic stuff behind these happenings: if you have the possibility to check your lost long file names you will discover that the most significant information are contained in the first 99 chars. Re: FAT names exceeding spec length
Clearly the problem is that from the user prospective in these kind of events all the information contained in the longer file names are lost. A file copy from Android is always completely transparent to the user, anyhow. Android open behavior "doesn't help" copping with these long names: if I copy files from an Android tablet and only after some days I retrieve them..information are lost in OpenBSD. FAT names exceeding spec length
Hello, I have a fat32 usb stick that I use to transfer files from/to my Android tablet since years. I just want to drop the hint that Android manage to render the file names exceeding 255 chars offering the user the long form anyway while OpenBSD strictly apply the FAT specs rendering these file names in the 8 chars format. == Daniele Bonini

cumbersome mtree
Hello, I was enthusiastic to write down a tool that permitted everyone to check and print the default file permissions of a given path but when I knocked my eyes against mtree behavior I remained frightened. Given for example: mtree -c -f /etc/mtree/4.4BSD.dist -K uid, guid, mode -p /usr/games -e I was expecting that: -p let me pass the path to check to mtree like /usr/games -K uid, guid, mode let me suggest the output for each file entry specified together with -c command option But indeed mtree behavior is really different. Please point me in the right direction with mtre or take these like good hints about a future version. == Nowarez Market

Re: GoCD on OpenBSD (?)
Thank you for the reply. I found this software interesting as one of the few opensource offer in its category and the doc is very coincise in describing things and workflow. Indeed, Unix is not advertised (as usual) but the downloadable package contains the "wrapper" for the most *important* Unix platforms too except for OpenBSD. It could be interesting to have it in our software arsenal but without having given a try to it it is also very hard to be able to endorse it. I would like to help but unfortunately more than leaving the hint it is missing the wrapper (a .so file) I don't know how. The software checks the OpenBSD wrapper existence and exits advising the user. -- Nowarez Market Nov 22, 2023 13:17:07 Peter N. M. Thanks to let us know about the coming of Laminar and about Rex. I'm looking for a standalone application by its GUI, non-commercial, non-web, non-ruby, etc. for OpenBSD that through its *server side services* let me orchestrate configuration and deployment to ->test or ->prod.
