Here today, gone tomorrow. Once people wake up and realize that hype, for
all intents and purposes, is just that - hype. Like when MI:2 came out this
summer, it was the top movie in the box office. Why? Hype. But will
anyone buy that piece of shit when it comes out to DVD? Only inbreds.

Like my man Flava Flave once said, "Don't...don't believe the hype!"

Dusty, you still want this CD? It sucks big hairy balls. I'll trade you
for that Cyndi Lauper CD you have. You know the one, with that 911 song on
it?

Wow, thanks bro, I will take you up on that offer. I was wondering if you'd
gotten a chance to check out Shaq's teammate Kobe's album, which came out
earlier this year? If you give the head's up, I'll bypass the new Limp
Bizkit and pick up Kobe instead.

Sorry, though, I need to hang onto Shaq's albums, I'm in the process of
memorizing all of his lyrics which make great pickup lines for chicks.
However, I can lend you two of his films, Steel, and Kaazam, where he plays
this kickass genie. I know you'd dig it man.

Yeah, Napster is a gift from the gods, unless you're in Metallica or have a
slow internet connection. While I'm fortunate enough not to be in the

I've been having these wet dreams involving DSL, cable modems and jello.

By the way, I tried out that delete button. You're right, it works.

Vaguely. I'm pretty sure I understand what "fact" is, in theory. As for
"opinion"it's a relatively new concept, so rumors continue to circulate
as the top minds in our country debate the significance and orgins of this
intangible idea tentatively labeled "opinion".

Seriously though, that's all I was doing, just giving my opinion on ATDI's
new album. But after getting scolded for mine, I thought I'd try a bit of
what we call sarcasm (some people call it being a dick, but fuck those
buggers, they're lame as a lamb, ba). I'm somewhat new to this list,
but have been on it long enough to know that Dusty has a wicked ass sense of
humor and can handle any shit flung in his direction.

Your words are manna from heaven, dusty. And to think I've been squandering
my hard earned dollars buying up all the albums of bands I don't like. If
only you had told me sooner, I wouldn't have all these damn Shaquille O'Neil
rap albums laying around. Well, things will be different from here on out.
Gone are the days of giving a band a second chance to redeem themselves,
with the idea being that they might have matured or evolved or just had an
off record the last time out. From here on, I will listen to one song off
of one record, and if I don't like it, screw the band, they suck.

I would like to show my utmost appreciation by mailing you my Relationship
Of Command to save you a trip to the record store. And take my Vaya while
you're at it, so you can have TWO copies of the brilliant EP.

I bought Grandaddy's newest album "Sophtware Slump" a couple of months ago
after seeing them live at This Ain't No Picnic. Some of the songs are okay,
in a "we want to sound like Radiohead's OK Computer" kind of way. The first
track is amazing though. You make the call.

Oh, but wasn't it frustrating that he kept losing his instructions? And the

2000-08-17 Thread Chad McQuay

Yes, Steppenwolf is another super good book by Hesse, kind of depressing in
parts but good stuff none the less. Anyone who calls Demian by Herman Hesse
the book of all books is A OK by my standards. What about Narcisus and
Goldmund by Hesse? Anyone read that one? It's pretty damn amazing too.

Bottom line. Read Hesse. You won't go wrong.

Last night I downloaded a live Creeper Lagoon performance off Indypoplive
and found myself humming along on the way to work this morning. I know
people have mentioned this band on previous postings, but somewhere in the
smoky haze I've forgotten what was said. Anyone own their album(s)? Is it
worth picking up?

Re: [MMouse]: Ayn Rand

2000-08-16 Thread Chad McQuay

Rk,

If you like Ayn Rand, you might want to check out Anthem...I think it was
her first novel, at any rate it's her shortest at only 100 pages or so. I'm
not really a fan of hers, her views are too right wing for me, but it was a
good read. Other books? Hmm, I just finished "Stranger" by Camus, which
was amazing. I also recommend any book by Herman Hesse, especially
"Demian", which has had a profound effect on me (hence my e-mail address -
[EMAIL PROTECTED]), or "Siddhartha." Let's see, what else, maybe
"Infinite Jest", although you want to talk about long books, this one makes
"War and Peace" read like Dr. Seuss.

That ought to get you started.

Re: [MMouse]: No more "Real World", but One interesting thing about MTV that I know...

2000-08-15 Thread Chad McQuay

Yeah, I know of one instrumental band you should check out, Tristeza, they
played at This Ain't No Picnic last month (anyone from LA go?), an all day
concert with Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, At The Drive-In, Creeper Lagoon,
Yo La Tengo, Beck, etc (sorry for rubbing it in, but that concert was the
highlight of my summer). Anyway, Tristeza played on the smaller side stage,
but I thought they were great. I just ordered their CD last week and have
been staked out at the mailbox ever since.

Re: [MMouse]: this list is really stupid

2000-08-14 Thread Chad McQuay

I've only been on this list for two weeks, and have yet to post (until now),
but have throughly enjoyed all of your amusing postings, despite the
frequent forays into non MM topics such as Promise Ring, The Real World
(which does suck) and the homosexual parents debate/roasting and there
IS more to life than Modest Mouse anyway, right? All of you, keep writing
e-mails to your hearts content, and I'll keep reading themModest Mouse
related or not.
