[MMouse]: modest mouse plays the meadowlands?

when you say big venues, are you talking arena's? I seriously, SERIOUSLY
doubt that modest mouse could sell out an arena. Their were shows on this
current tour that haven't sold out until the day of the show (if at all). I
could see them moving up to big venues on an indie-rock scale (Irving Plaza,
 The Filmore, etc...).

yes i mean large indie rock scale.
but still its just scary to think about.
i mean before they'd play venues with
a capacity for 500 people or so. granted
they played a few big spaces. but this
next leg it seems they might have spaces
with room for two thousand people...

but no i'm not thinking modest mouse will
suddenly turn area rock band with a tour
backed by mtv or anything. but to argue
with you about shows selling out i know
for a fact that the bowery ballroom show
was sold out well before the show.

[MMouse]: bright eyes news/ modest mouse commentary

2000-06-01 Thread Iivefast

i saw bright eyes last night at brownies
and ohmygoodnesss it ranks right up there
with the mouse as one of the best shows
i've ever seen. either conor is the most
nervous troubled boy alive [and if so my
heart goes out to him] or he's got the
knack for showmanship. either way i love it.

bt i heard that there are problems
with booking for the tour bright eyes was supposted
to be going with herspaceholiday this july. soo sad huh.
im hoping bright eyes with still play cmj this fall as rumored.
anyone else have any inside info they can bring to the table?
i keep pestered robb from saddle creek and i feel badly. in good
news the faint will be on tour with the vue and camera obscura.
that should be a really rad show for any of you kids diggin the
new wave revival.

now for modest content: im fairly sure they are doing another
leg of the tour although dates and venues have yet to be confirmed.
isaac sets up the shows himself and i heard he called the electric
factory in philly about setting up a show. seems like the next leg
the mouse might be playing some reallly BIG venues. while i think
it'll be great to have shows where more people can go {maybe
solving some of the desperate pleas for tickets and such} it'll be
strange to see the mouse in huuge spaces. also the band is going
to have to pay a lot bigger fees to rent out these spaces meaning
ticket prices will probably go up quite a bit. the price you pay
becoming popular i suppose...

2000-05-27 Thread Iivefast

about the shins:

definitely worth checking out! i wish i could see them
but of course they arent coming to the east coast.
they are a four piece pop band from albuquerque, nm
that has members of the group flake music (also highly
recommended by me). i know they have a few seven
inches out on omnibus records (www.omnibusrecords.com)
and are supposted to be coming out with a sub pop singles
seven inch sometime soon. i also hear that one of the guys
in the band is a professional air balloonist! their music kinda
reminds me of low-fi-ish early built to spill a la the normal
years.

and in response to the post Rescue Me-
check these out!

[MMouse]: magnolia vs the sexxxiest kids in indie rock

2000-01-12 Thread Iivefast

i loved magnolia. yes certainly the shortest three
hour movie i've ever seen. tom cruise is great. his
character just seemed so real. and the frog thing!
i'd heard from a friend that it actually HAS happened.
can anyone verify that? a truly amazing movie. the
way the sickness of certain characters was portrayed
was amazing. i've had someone in my immediate family
become terminally ill. and yes all those feelings are true.

i havent seen boogie nights. is it anywhere as good?

as for the sexxxiest kids in indie rock let me begin by
saying i find all these people attractive for so many
reasons that have nothing to do with their looks

marty from the lucksmiths
sasha from ladybug transistor/essex green
bill and kyle from rainer maria
all of modest mouse
the guitarist of les savy fav
michelle mae of the makeup
kazu of blonde redhead
all of sleater kinney
elliott smith
mark robinson
steve malkumus
manda rin
and all of the rondelles
oh and amelia fletcher too!

heheh see i like lots of indie kids.

i did like it though. not nearly as much as

American Beauty is the best movie of the year. Well, duh.
i would tend to disagree with this statement. i found American Beauty to
be the hollywood version of a much better movie, namely Happiness. Happiness
took risks in its portrayal of suburbia. meanwhile American Beauty feed us
the
same stereotypes and was ohsocontrived. i mean the father kissing kevin
spacey, oh all military uptight assholes secretly have homosexual
tendancies...
i did like some parts. such as the last monologue about things being
beautiful.
i think seeing it in the theaters when it first came out might have ruined it
some
for me. people were just laughing at things that i didn't find at all
amusing. like
when the mother (annette bening) does not make the sale and is furious at
herself,
to the point where she hurts herself, people laughed. i found nothing funny
about this scene; it fact it seemed tragic to me. perhaps thats just because
i've felt as she does in that moment. oh well.

my favorite movies of the year: (in no particular order)
happiness
run lola run
buena vista social club
the iron giant

movies that should have been better but were ok:
boys dont cry
american beauty
twin falls, idaho

what i hated:
blair witch project

[MMouse]: top records

1999-12-03 Thread Iivefast

here's my list:
1)simon joyner-the lousy dance
this is a really beautiful cd. just listen to "she lays down her veil." it
never fails to make me feel sad and lonely. something more songs never come
close to doing. i must admit though i do like some of his older cds slightly
more.

2)mick turner-marlan rosa
i guess its the association with the dirty three but this man creates layered
textured enthralling music. its great.

3)les savy fav-the cat and the cobra
this rocks out. and they are so wonderful live. this cd along with the our
coastal hymn 7" are a must.

4)the blackheart procession-2
i dont usually like all that san diego stuff but this sounds different. in
fact i'm thinking i need to hear 3 mile pilot after listening to this cd so
much.

5)rainer maria-look now look again
not only a nice sweet pop record (although they need more dualing vocals as
far as i'm concerned) but a nice bunch of people. i like!

6)duster-1975
space rock. so fucking rad.

7)the magnetic fields-69 love songs box set
this is a lot of fun. some are novelty i must admit but altogether it puts a
smile on my face. need i say more?

8)the red house painters-retrospective
pretty songs. i dig. yeah!

9)the lucksmiths-southernmost ep
cute australian and i have a crush on marty.
nevermind the fact this cd is the sweetest pop music.

10)belle and sebastian-tigermilk reissue
speaking of the sweetest pop i am so glad they re-released this cd. its
great.
i think its perhaps the best bs in my opinion.

11) built to spill - keep it like a secret
thank god for doug martsch. this rules!

12)flin flon- boo boo
mark robinson keeps em coming. dude this makes me wanna dance!

13)pedro the lion-the only reason i feel secure
yeah this guy is christian and maybe he mentions jesus here and there but the
songs speak for themselves. i once heard someone call this boring, but thats
so far from correct.

14) sleater-kinney- the hot rock
yes this is more indie rock than their past releases, but the song writing is
the best of any of their past work. the song get up alone makes this a
winner.

15)apples in stereo- her wallpaper reverie
this is a short, sweet, fantastic bit of sound.

16) olivia tremor control- black foliage
its E6. its good. its got lots of weird noises.

17) the kinks- village green preservation society reissue
its the kinks for crying out loud! ray davies and the rest of the boys make me
wish i were born in a different time period so i coulda seen them in their
peak.

honorable mention:
antarctica, lullaby for the working class, paris, texas, essex green, pita,
mogwai, don cab, red stars theory, the rondelles

ok first off i'm tired. forgive me if i'm mean. these are only my opinions.
a) at the drive in are great. live they are even more amazing.
b) the correct grammar would be NOT be "sucked real bad"
at LEAST say "sucked realLY badLY" although that's not much of
an improvement.
c) if you wanna talk about "selling out" in terms of at the drive in, look at
the get up kids. they had a FREAKING TOUR BUS. that is ridiculous. you'd
think they WERE the backstreet boys.
d) the get up kids are really lame. i've seen them twice and each time i've

full of boys clutch their 3s with one hand and point with the other. yuck.
