[MOPO] I need help with a new series of Sexiest pre-1960 actress ever Face/Offs!

2012-07-07 Thread Bruce Hershenson
I am going to start a three week series of Face/Offs, choosing the Sexiest
pre-1960 actress ever!

Here's how it will work:
There will be 16 to start. The first 8 days they will go against each
other. The next four days the winners of the first 8 will go against each
other. Then the next two days the winners of those four will go against
each other. and then the two last winners will have a final Face/Off!

Now here are the rules:
1) They must be incredibly sexy (so I don't think great actresses like
Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck or Joan Crawford qualify, but I am open to
opposing viewpoints!)
2) They must be talented actresses who had substantial careers (so I don't
think super-sexy women like Jayne Mansfield or Gina Lollabrigida qualify,
but I am open to opposing viewpoints!)
3) They must have had a substantial portion of their career before 1960,
and as an adult, so Natalie Wood, Ann-Margret, and tons of others don't
qualify.

Here is a preliminary list (in no particular order):
Marilyn Monroe
Sofia Loren
Brigitte Bardot
Jean Harlow
Catherine Deneuve
Grace Kelly
Audrey Hepburn
Kim Novak
Louise Brooks
Elizabeth Taylor
Ava Gardner
Ingrid Bergman
Lana Turner
Veronica Lake
Gene Tierney
Rita Hayworth
Hedy Lamarr
Diana Dors
*
HERE IS WHAT I AM ASKING OF YOU!*
1) Who deserves to be on the above list, but isn't?
2) Who is on the above list, but doesn't deserve to be?
3) What is the sexiest single image you have ever seen of any or all of the
above (or your alternate choices)? I will use the best of them to create
the Face/Off images!

I will be fascinated to see what you great minds come up with. If this goes
well, I will follow it with a post-1960 version.

2012-07-07 Thread Jay Nemeth-Johannes
Looking at the list, I think you need to slightly adjust the description of
the face-off. These are all actresses who had major career success in the
Œ40s and Œ50s. My initial thought was to suggest names from the Œ20s and
Œ30s, but I don¹t think that is where you are going. BTW, the list looks
good for those rules (career after 1945 and before 1960)

Re: [MOPO] FS: MY FAIR LADY Deluxe Roadshow Lobby Set

2012-07-07 Thread Kirby McDaniel
We have three of the individual cards for about $25.00 each. These are the
roadshow Warners oversized stills.
Not common and at $150.00 for an entire set clearly a good deal.

They are a little different from the Fox sets, which are indeed very deluxe, so
the printer may (probably was
a different provider.)

[MOPO] Introduction, MoviePosterCollectors.com, and MPC Hall of Shame

2012-07-07 Thread Mel
Hello everybody. I've been collecting since March 2009 and have
accumulated 1,200 posters, which I've showcased on my personal website
Posternirvana.com http://www.posternirvana.com.

I joined this group primarily to promote my general reference website
Moviepostercollectors.com http://www.Moviepostercollectors.com and its
various sections, including the Seller's Hall of
Shamehttp://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Fake_Sellers.html
.

MoviePosterCollectors.com is a general reference website aimed at newbies.
 It includes sections on
valuationhttp://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Valuation.html,
buying http://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Buying_Guide.html,
authentications
of various postershttp://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Authentications.html,
etc. I recommend you send a link to this website to newer collectors. It
encapsulates the essential information I wish I had known when I started
collecting.

The newest section of MPC is the Seller's Hall of
Shamehttp://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Fake_Sellers.html,
which outs the worst sellers in the hobby. I encourage you to follow the
links on that page and spread the word about these sellers, especially Tom
Loce http://www.moviepostercollectors.com/Fake-Seller-tloceposters.html,
who is the worst of the worst, as you'll see on the subpages devoted to his
deceptive trade practices and fake posters that infest Ebay.

I know many of you have hesitated to criticize the Hall of Shame sellers
because you are concerned about being sued for defamation. As a lawyer with
15 years litigation experience, I'm fully capable of fending off any
meritless suit brought by these charlatans. Truth is an absolute defense
to defamation, and everything I've put up is true as far as I can
reasonably determine. Also, systematic conning of customers is a subject of
public concern, which has a higher defamation standard. Some of the Hall
of Shame sellers, especially Loce, probably qualify as public figures,
which has the highest defamation standard. Finally, of course, the
administrators/owners of forums, chat rooms, and list-serves have full
immunity per Section 230 of the Communications Decency
Act.http://www.citmedialaw.org/legal-guide/online-activities-covered-section-230

If you have any additional information, corrections, or comments, please
feel free to email me directly (alphamel1...@gmail.com).

Re: [MOPO] Ebay Buyer from hell

2012-07-07 Thread Franc
Have any of the Ebay sellers on this board had dealings with a Ebay Buyer
named John Cioffi aka supabintan? He lives in Victoria, Australia and
appears to be the buyer from hell. He purchased something from me on June
14. When I didn't receive payment from him, I sent him an Ebay Reminder ten
days later on June 24, which did elicit a response and the response
unfortunately was some nonsense about having trouble with PayPal and he
wanted me to accept an alternate payment, which I almost never do anymore
except for good customers that I've dealt with over the years. I reluctantly
said I would accept a postal money order which he told me he'd send out by
Express Mail. A few days later, he sent me some nonsense about how I should
have graded the lobby card he purchased as Good condition and not as
Excellent- because I said it had a few pinholes. This was before even paying
for or receiving the lobby card in question and I probably should have known
at that point that this buyer was going to be bad news. I told him that
grading terms were subjective but a photo scan that was enlargeable was
provided on Ebay, as well as a thorough description of all the defects on
the card. He then sent me a list of links to photos of cards he owned which
he wanted me to rate. I declined and asked him when he planned to pay for
the card he bought from me. He once again promised to send the payment by
Express Mail. As of last Thursday evening I still had not received a payment
from this idiot and asked him for a tracking number which he refused to
provide so I closed my Ebay Dispute and received a Final Value Fee from
Ebay. He then proceeded to sent a tirade of e-mails, one of which DID
contain a tracking number for an International Air Mail Delivery which was
delivered to a USPS Disbatch Center in New York for distribution but was
clearly not delivered to me as of yet. If I ever do get this payment, I'm
sending it back unopened. I don't want to do business with jerks like this
anymore. Life is too short. Unless you've got loads of patience, I'd
recommend you add supabintan to your Bidder's Block List.

condition and not as Excellent- because I said it had a few
pinholes. This was before even paying for or receiving the lobby
card in question and I probably should have known at that point that
this buyer was going to be bad news. I told him that grading terms
were subjective but a photo scan that was enlargeable was provided
on Ebay, as well as a thorough description of all the defects on the
card. He then sent me a list of links to photos of cards he owned
which he wanted me to rate. I declined and asked him when he planned
to pay for the card he bought from me. He once again promised to
send the payment by Express Mail. As of last Thursday evening I
still had not received a payment from this idiot and asked him for a
tracking number which he refused to provide so I closed my Ebay
Dispute and received a Final Value Fee from Ebay. He then proceeded
to sent a tirade of e-mails, one of which DID contain a tracking
number for an International Air Mail Delivery which was delivered to
a USPS Disbatch Center in New York for distribution but was clearly
not delivered to me as of yet. If I ever do get this payment, I'm
sending it back unopened. I don't want to do business with jerks
like this anymore. Life is too short. Unless you've got loads of
patience, I'd recommend you add supabintan to your Bidder's Block List.

The next four days the winners of the first 8 will go against each other.

him, I sent him an Ebay Reminder ten days later on June 24, which
did elicit a response and the response unfortunately was some
nonsense about having trouble with PayPal and he wanted me to accept
an alternate payment, which I almost never do anymore except for
good customers that I've dealt with over the years. I reluctantly
said I would accept a postal money order which he told me he'd send

about how I should have graded the lobby card he purchased as Good
condition and not as Excellent- because I said it had a few

I am going to start a three week series of Face/Offs, choosing the Sexiest
pre-1960 actress ever!

 Here's how it will work:
There will be 16 to start. The first 8 days they will go against each
other. The next four days the winners of the first 8 will go against each
other. Then the next two days the winners of those four will go against each
other. and then the two last winners will have a final Face/Off!

 Now here are the rules:
 1) They must be incredibly sexy (so I don't think great actresses like
Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck or Joan Crawford qualify, but I am
 open to opposing viewpoints!)
 2) They must be talented actresses who had substantial careers (so I
don't think super-sexy women like Jayne Mansfield or Gina Lollabrigida
qualify, but I am open to opposing viewpoints!)
 3) They must have had a substantial portion of their career before 1960,
and as an adult, so Natalie Wood, Ann-Margret, and tons of others don't
qualify.

Here is a preliminary list (in no particular order):
 Marilyn Monroe
 Sofia Loren
 Brigitte Bardot
 Jean Harlow
 Catherine Deneuve
 Grace Kelly
 Audrey Hepburn
 Kim Novak
 Louise Brooks
 Elizabeth Taylor
 Ava Gardner
 Ingrid Bergman
 Lana Turner
 Veronica Lake
 Gene Tierney
 Rita Hayworth
 Hedy Lamarr
 Diana Dors

HERE IS WHAT I AM ASKING OF YOU!
 1) Who deserves to be on the above list, but isn't?
 2) Who is on the above list, but doesn't deserve to be?
 3) What is the sexiest single image you have ever seen of any or all of
the above (or your alternate choices)? I will use the best of them to create
the Face/Off images!

I will be fascinated to see what you great minds come up with. If this
goes well, I will follow it with a post-1960 version.

Of course I have no clue on that crazy woman, but generally, I think you
are seeing the results of big business run wild in our country. They are
losing employees left and right and giving the ones that are left more and
more to do for the same or less pay, and meanwhile they are blaming it on
the recession but they are often making record profits.

And the politicians are *ALL *miserable, so busy stuffing their own
pockets with graft that they are not seeing the misery their actions (and

We are seeing the rapid destruction of the middle class *AND *millions

2012-07-07 Thread Daniel Kinske
MoPo,

Hi there. Sorry to hear about the Australian eBay rapscallion (well they did
shoot down the Red Baron at least), hopefully he has a good twin that gets as
much attention for being nice--but as the Bard S. (Shakespeare, not Bard/t
Simpson ;) is quoted as saying: The evil that men do lives after them; the
good is oft interred with their bones.

As I have been gathering Marx Brothers poster images, I have encountered some
really nice posters with fun artwork from Belgium, Spain, Belgium, Argentina,
Italy, and France. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to whether it
might be more enjoyable to see some of those pieces included in the Art of the
Marx Brothers book? I don't want to omit a valuable group of images if they
would be of interest to fans of the films--and/or artwork, world-wide.

I know Benito (eBay username: 3905miguel) has some wonderful examples and I'd
be curious where else I might find some examples?

Also searching for original color stills of the Marx Brothers and Laurel and
Hardy (want to prepare for the next project now to stay on top of things) if
anyone is aware of those? I have found one of all five Marx Brothers in color
from the 1950s, so excited to have that image published soon :)

For Laurel and Hardy there are some rare color prints from the 30s by Harry
Warnecke, so please let me know if you have those as well.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday (Gloria Stuart would have turned
102 that day) and lots of firecracker fun.

Looking forward to seeing fellow collectors at the Beverly Hills show. Asked
Grey to pimp me out for free labor (not to me ;) but if not I'll just visit and
hold the Marx Brothers glass slides up to the light.

thoughtlessness about them all in every direction; and their language was like
nothing I ever heard. The F-word was every third word, s--t, b--ch, and they

Can't imagine what I would have heard if they had been upset about

I think a good deal of the problem stems from people no longer having to
relate consistently to other people. I also believe that the cellphone and
personal computer are the biggest contributors to anti-social behavior.
People don't talk to each other when they're out in public. Instead they
call or text someone who they apparently would rather be with. People seem
to have even lost the ability to concentrate on a movie or a play for one
consecutive hour. Now when you go to a theatre there are cellphones flashing
and ringing every five minutes. IT's a pandemic. It's not a surprise to me
that kids speak in the limited vulgar vocabulary you mentioned Judith
because they've also lost the ability to spell, write sentences and read and
it's all thanks to Twitter which has to be the biggest waste of time ever
invented. Well, that's my rant for the night. FRANC

Of course I have no clue on that crazy woman, but generally, I think you are
seeing the results of big business run wild in our country. They are losing
employees left and right and giving the ones that are left more and more to
do for the same or less pay, and meanwhile they are blaming it on the
recession but they are often making record profits.

And the politicians are ALL miserable, so busy stuffing their own pockets
with graft that they are not seeing the misery their actions (and inactions)
are causing.

We are seeing the rapid destruction of the middle class AND millions who
THOUGHT they were OK for retirement are finding they get zero on their
investments (because the government is printing trillions and loaning it at
zero to the banks, to keep bailing them out), and now they will likely have
to work the rest of their life. And we are told that when we are destitute
the government will care for us, but for some that is little comfort.

And there is no sign anything will get better anytime soon.

I would say THE ABOVE greatly contributes to general fear, unpleasantness,
and outright anger that you (and I) witness more and more on a daily basis.

I think a good deal of the problem stems from people no longer
having to
relate consistently to other people. I also believe that the
cellphone and
personal computer are the biggest contributors to anti-social
behavior.
People don't talk to each other when they're out in public. Instead
they
call or text someone who they apparently would rather be with.
People seem
to have even lost the ability to concentrate on a movie or a play
for one
consecutive hour. Now when you go to a theatre there are cellphones
flashing
and ringing every five minutes. IT's a pandemic. It's not a surprise
to me
that kids speak in the limited vulgar vocabulary you mentioned
Judith
because they've also lost the ability to spell, write sentences and
read and
it's all thanks to Twitter which has to be the biggest waste of time
ever
invented. Well, that's my rant for the night. FRANC

And while you wouldn't condone it, fair play to rioters, they at least are

As it all gets ratcheted up further, the politicians continue to underestimate

this spells it all out with the banking... and now Barclsys in UK had

when evera false market is made... ezample...basbal cards, comics
posters, toys the market will fall as there is a artificial economey
made by sharp dealersand false pumped up pricesonly the most
sincere rare titles rise and can stay stable somewhat...even then
what gos up can come down..

To me , your customers are family so its best to sell them with
cations on prices and rarity just like the house bust it was that
agents said you could never go wrong... that it would keep growing...
well I waold rekon most people have lost vlaue or are under water...
howevere we wemodify spending and live within or under means and
sell off the excess... we could possibly avert bigtime loss and
disaster...

they say house rental is up as all thepeopel that lost homes now
prefer rentals but that you can buy cheaper.. If you can meet the
standards the banks want,,,

I have been finding living on a budget spiratual.. when I shop I try
to keep a budget and but things that store long and sprinkle in fresh
fruitsand veggies like two babanas instead of a Buch... as I threw
awaylots and it keeps a diet gooing... alwso frozen... and simple
basics.. like crackers, soup, beans, and then do same with car gas,,,
utilities... and spending in general...
Ive oly spent a small amount on my cards like 69.00 and so I just
stopped and i buy toiletries at 1.00 store/// spend like 10.00 and
get most things...
also clothes...used or buy at target, walmart...and again sparce...
i still need to modify I pay 69 for cable, internet and a landline

I hope to cut it to 30.00/// so we can all tighten the belt and

Re: [MOPO] Ebay Buyer from hell

2012-07-07 Thread Cory Glaberson
Kids!
I don’t know what’s wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They are disobedient, disrespectful oafs!
Noisy, crazy, dirty, lazy, loafers!
And while we’re on the subject:
Kids!
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!
Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!
Why can’t they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What’s the matter with kids today?

this spells it all out with the banking... and now Barclsys in UK had
admitted decepition with the limpros or the rates charged to other
 banks globally///

when evera false market is made... ezample...basbal cards, comics
posters, toys the market will fall as there is a artificial economey
made by sharp dealersand false pumped up pricesonly the most
sincere rare titles rise and can stay stable somewhat...even then
what gos up can come down..

Ive oly spent a small amount on my cards like 69.00 and so I just
stopped and i buy toiletries at 1.00 store/// spend like 10.00 and
 get most things...
also clothes...used or buy at target, walmart...and again sparce...
i still need to modify I pay 69 for cable, internet and a landline
 phone..
I hope to cut it to 30.00/// so we can all tighten the belt and
change behaviours... unless you have big bux.. then just be prepared
in case it all gos south.

Got another banking scandal over here now.
The bankers we bailed out and who refuse to meet government imposed
targets to loan to small businesses.
The latest scandal after politicians cheating expenses and the phone
 hacking scandal.
Worst of which was not the unsurprising behaviour of journalists but
that police and politicians were complicit with the media.
Latest banking scandal will be subject to a parliamentary enquiry.
The politicians investigating themselves and the bankers who fund
 their parties.
Police predict more rioting this year, and though it's not good
weather for it now, it'll perhaps be less inclement when the
corporate Olympics gig has started and eyes of the world are on
 London.
And while you wouldn't condone it, fair play to rioters, they at
least are punished for their thieving.
As it all gets ratcheted up further, the politicians continue to
underestimate the public mood, which keeps getting uglier and uglier.
We'll see where it all goes.

Bruce, I think you're absolutely right. But I think Franc is
right to a degree also. I just took a class at a local community
college (one semester). The kids (other students) seemed nice enough
but there was a general atmosphere of thoughtlessness about them all
in every direction; and their language was like nothing I ever heard.
The F-word was every third word, s--t, b--ch, and they weren't even
angry or upset about anything. This was just their normal speech.
Can't imagine what I would have heard if they had been upset about
 something

That's another thing I like about cats: The strongest language I
heard from them is Meow, none of them has broken my heart, one of
them has insulted me, none of them has been mean to me. They just
want to love and be loved. Why don't people feel that way? I
appreciate the negative economy and how this has hurt many people,
but I didn't cause it, so don't blame me.

And I am now convinced that every member of Congress is either a
crook or an idiot. And would you like an example of greed,
stupidity, selfishness, and more stupidity??? Try Blagojevich or
whatever his name is. If you're going to be a crook, at least be a
 smart one.

 OK, I guess that's
