Re: [MOPO] Question About Lost items

2016-04-05 Thread Greg Douglass
Unfortunately, France does not recognize tracking numbers from the US. I went
down to the post office and asked if they could do a deeper trace based on my
receipt. They were most apologetic but could do nothing.
I'm not sure if this is something new since the Paris bombings.
All this would be fine if the customer was at least somewhat understanding but
this guy is just impossible. His emails get nastier and nastier. Oh, well. Now
I remember why I stopped selling stuff on Ebay.
As I said earlier, I shipped a similar rem to another guy in France last week.
He just left positive feedback on the item. Hey, I've done what I can; one has
to let this stuff go or it'll drive you crazy. (Or as a teacher of mine once
told me: "It's the little s**t that'll kill you, Greg."
I deeply appreciate all the input. This is one of those moments I'm glad MOPO
exists. Around 400 people, most of them experts on some aspect of collecting?
That's gold.

Living in Europe I would seriously advise any US dealers against using
eBay's Global Shipping Program. It is a rip-off and I would not buy from
anyone who ships with it, nor would many of the other collectors this side
of the ocean. I have never experienced any difficulty with USPS parcels
here in UK, nor has anything I sent to US or Canada gone astray. The only
problem I ever had was, in fact, sending a poster to France, but it was
eventually returned to me.

Re: [MOPO] Question About Lost items

2016-04-05 Thread Jeff Potokar

Im sure this parcel will arrive fine.

Delivery times can be speedy, like your other package was, or delayed.

I mailed an envelope from OH to CA over Xmas.. and it took 14 days to
arrive. Not damaged, not the wrong address, nothing. And no
explanation was ever found.

So flukes can happen.

And arent you able to use the tracking #, once it gets into France?
Parcels shipped from overseas to the US, with their own tracking
number, and once arriving here (if handled by the USPS) can still be
tracked here in the US until the delivery happens.

If it isnt that way in the reverse, (from US to overseas), that's a
real delivery detriment.

Re: [MOPO] Question About Lost items

2016-04-05 Thread Helmut Hamm
Greg,

these things are always an aggravation, BUT I very much doubt that your package
is lost. French postal services are notoriously slow, so there's a very good
chance the package will still show up. I recently had a package from France
that took THREE WEEKS for delivery to Germany. It took two and a half weeks to
even leave France. Since your package is already in Paris, you might ask your
buyer to call his postal services. Next step would be to start a mail search
with USPS. I know how annoying some buyers can be, but all you can do now is
remain calm and patient. And again, French Post is slow, but they rarely lose
anything.

As to ebay's GSP: This is a huge money making scam for ebay and their shipping
partner:
- They cash in import fees from the buyer, but I very much doubt that the
German, French or any other local government ever sees any of that money.
- I once bought posters from a fraudulent seller who had enrolled in the GPS,
but never shipped my posters. Fortunately, I had used a credit card with
Paypal, as ebay would refund my purchase price, but not my shipping costs or
import duties. I had to call the credit card company and issue a chargeback
against the ebay shipper.
-The shippers like to 'inspect' your package, meaning they tear it open,
discard your original packaging and repack it, often most clumsily.

By all means, I can only discourage you or anybody else to stay away from the
GSP.

Greg & Todd & all Mopoers,
FYI, regarding International Shipping, we at aaavintagemoveposters on Ebay use
USPS Priority International shipping which has always worked great for us, BUT
we have recently had two instances in the last month where shipped items show
ZERO tracking info for well over two weeks.  Shipping from SoCal and no
movement whatsoever, not as if items were stopped at Customs at their country
of destination, but no movement at all.  Then suddenly the items show 'accepted
at USPS' after 2-3 weeks and within a week are at their destination (in this
case Canada & Paris).  Tried contacting USPS but they could only open a case on
the lost items.  The good news was once contacted, the items began moving out
of Los Angeles within a couple of days.  Very odd, but have had great
communication with understanding Buyers and all arrived albeit very late.
