[mou-net] Springbrook Nature Center, Fridley , Anoka Co. birds
Saw FOY Goldfinch in spring/summer colors in an Aspen tree on the berm on the southern boundary along with some Yellow Rumped Warblers nearby. There were a number of Red Wing Blackbirds sheltering in the trees and bushes on the western perimeter of the ponds. Only waterfowl were Canada Geese, one of which perched on the boardwalk rail and would not move. It chose instead to hiss at me as I gave it as wide a berth as possible while walking by. [mou-net] Yellowheaded Blackbird
Just saw a yellowheaded blackbird mixed in with all the redwinged blackbirds and grackles. Both head and chest were brilliant yellow orange. Mary Hickerson North of Brainerd Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Lake Byllesby and Grey Cloud Dunes SNA, south metro
Hello - A few stops over the weekend and some notes to consider: *Lake Byllesby*, near the cemetery/county park, is a vast field of mud. Several dozen Lesser Yellow Legs present on Saturday and hopefully good for more shorebird variety in the next few weeks ahead. The trail between the county "park" and the cemetery, alongside the railroad tracks, has been blocked with a No Trespassing sign. Horned Grebes and Ruddy Ducks can be seen from the boat launch on the south side. On Saturday evening, Vesper Sparrows, Field Sparrows and a single Brown Thrasher were singing at *Grey Cloud Dunes SNA* near Cottage Grove. Wild strawberries are greening up, too. Also had a nice trio of American Woodcocks peenting at sunset on the northern end. All in all, a fine day before the snow. --rick gibson, mpls Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Aitkin County Sightings
There are currently at least 26 bald eagles congregating on the ice near open water on Goff's Bay of Big Sandy Lake. I am viewing them from my home overlooking the bay and I suspect there are more out of my line of sight. Their numbers have been building here over the last couple of days. Yesterday at Rice Lake NWR, there were approximately 1500 ring-necked ducks that could be seen from the observation tower on the northern edge of Rice Lake along with trumpeter swans, blue-winged teal, common goldeneyes, buffleheads, and wood ducks. Other notable sightings on the refuge included an American tree sparrow, several northern harriers and four sandhill cranes.
