[mou-net] George Lahr
Hi, As some of you already know, George passed away on April 28th. A tribute wall to share your thoughts, visitation and funeral information can be found at this link: https://www.mcnearneyfuneralhome.com/obituaries/George-M-Lahr?obId=20945449#/obituaryInfo George was a kind and generous man, who loved his family and will greatly be missed by the birding community. He was a frequent participant on Kim Ekert's MBW trips and would literally talk to anybody at a "bird chase" site. He lived in the same neighborhood as me, so we often went birding together. A common phrase we would say to each other when we spot a bird in our respective backyards would be "You get all the good birds". He was a great friend and I will miss him dearly. [mou-net] A warning to those that keep both MOU and shared ebird lists
I was going to update my county numbers after I refound the Carolina wren at Fort Snelling. My Hennepin increased by one which is should have. I also noticed my Redwood county increased by 2 and my Lyon county increased by 1. The ebird import must have just happened in the last 24 hours or so. Back in October, I was part of a birding group of 3 where all 3 of us did not see all the same birds. So at the time, I deleted the birds I did not see so my ebird counts are still correct. Problem is I am still tagged in the original ebird report so those birds I did not see were still stuck to me when the auto-import occurred. I had this same issue at one point last year or early this year. I do not remember. I thought that I may have ebirded some birds, but forgot to include them in my MOU report so I just clicked update counts/submit listing totals. Well now I have some birds that I did not actually see. Hard to explain, but finding out what those birds were may be impossible to tell. This also happened to another member of the birding party. [mou-net] Pine Warbler, Scott county
Tough bird to find in Scott Notes from my ebird report: Singing male. Trilling first heard and initially thought it was a chipping sparrow, so I continued onto the water to scope waterfowl. On way back I played the pine warbler tape to make sure and did some phishing. There is a short oak tree near the pines where I saw the yellow rumps. I continued to phish and then saw the pine warbler. Yellow warbler with muted blackish wings and clear white wing bars. Got a great look at its bright yellow split eye ring. I tried to get photo but could not with my small camera I use for digi-scoping. It eventually flew back up to the pines. I was able to see it clearly with my binoculars and knew it could not be a different warbler species such as yellow, orange-crowned, or non-breeding blackpoll or bay-breasted. It did not call while feeding on the oak tree Directions: From main lot walk the asphalt road 500 yard to wide grassy opening on left.. Follow the trail towards the water until seeing the last stand of pines on the right.. When I got back to lot, I heard more trilling on the spruces near the lot, but I had to get back to work so I did not investigate. [mou-net] Gulls I found
I have no proof but when I first scanned the field for any other oddballs. I was looking for potential Icelands and thayers. One gull was next to a ring billed but it was noticeably smaller. What stood out was that it had greenish legs. I had no idea what it was. I tried to get photos through my scope but the shot was very blurry and I don't think I even got the gull as the scope I think moved. I looked in my book later and see immature Mew Gull fit those characteristics. Again I have no proof of the sighting. Most of the flock left soon after. The field was very wet and will probably dry a lot in the next 24 Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] 3 short eared Owls in Scott county
I received a report that 3 owls were spotted hunting at about 5:10pm tonight. They were found at my original location when I posted a couple of weeks back. McKenna road runs parallel to the east of Canterbury Road. There is a roundabout on the south side and a road that heads to the east. It is a new road not on maps. It is a long Indian name that starts with a T. One owl was on a light post then flew in the field to the north where it was joined by two other owls. [mou-net] Short eared owl. Scott county
This message is two pronged 1. To see if I can finally post to this list serve 2. Last night I found a short eared owl hunting at 4:55pm near the SMSC recycling facility off Canterbury road S on the south side of 169. There is a road that leads to the facility and others refound it tonight at 4:50. I saw it Sunday night standing on a newly paved road that runs in between McKenna Road and Hergott Memorial drive. I was facing north towards the bus transit station where I saw it at 4:55pm. So there may be two owls.
