Re: Free MQ management tool
In some ways you could say that it's a trial version to encourage you buy a version which manages more queue managers or MQControl or AutoPilot but I do know of a few customers for whom this is exactly what they need. 1. It does not require MQSeries to be running on your local machine so does not have the cost associated with the IBM MQ Explorer. 2. It is an interface that Windows users are familiar with and so does not require you to learn details about MQ or a remote operating system to be able to manage a remote queue manager. 3. It is a friendly robust interface for testing of your local queue managers. It is very rich in functionality including object management, message management. 4. It gives monitoring. Re: So much for Free MQ management tool
Maybe a stupid question as I haven't looked at the tool, but what does this "free" tool do that the really free tool on IBM's support pack website doesn't do? The really free tool in question is Paul Clarke's MO71 support pack. This gives you full admin/monitoring capability on any number of queue managers and the latest version gives you tools to track down configuration mistakes and typos. >From what I'm seeing on this list, I don't think I'll bother with the tool, even if an time-unlimited version is made available. Re: Free MQ management tool
I think some organizations forget what FREE means. If a software program or package has a timebomb (will not work after a particular timeframe) it is not free but a trial version. Making statements, such as, "So why are we giving it away for free?" would be enticing, in which, the company or individual wants the general community to use a working product to enhance their work environment. The word "Express" or "Lite" should be a flag that it is a cutdown version of the full blown product. For any company out there if you are going to put a timebomb in your software don't call it FREE, just a trial version. Also, if you are going to provide an "Express" or "Lite" version identify up-front the limitations of the product before posting so people can determine if it is worthwhile to download. Remember, these days nothing is for free unless you create it yourself and then again there usually is someone else claiming it is theirs :-) Chris Disclaimer: The statements made in this email are the opinions and expressions of the author only and does not reflect the company or organization he/she is employed by or under. Does that mean it cannot monitor more than 2 qmgrs Thanks, Ruzi Hi Sam, I found this at the MQControl Express Manual (pg 2-7): 2.4 About the MQControl Express License In order to run MQControl Express, you need a license. By default, a new MQControl Express installation includes a temporary, 30-day license. The file, MQSERIES.lic, is stored in the directory install_dir\Nastel\mqcx\config\groups. To obtain a permanent license, contact a Nastel sales representative at 1-800-375-6144 or (+00) 1-631-761-9100. Is it realy FREE or is 30 days FREE ??? Re: Free MQ management tool
I downloaded this software and was disappointed that it was a 30 trial of a severely crippled product. I guess that means its free, just not by my definition. I could not get it to monitor more than one manager, and the book was no help. I have since removed it, if this was a marketing ploy it failed miserably here. -Original Message- From: Ruzi R [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 29, 2002 9:21 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Free MQ management tool Sam, Thanks for the free offer. RES: Free MQ management tool
Title: RES: Free MQ management tool Hi Sam, I found this at the MQControl Express Manual (pg 2-7): 2.4 About the MQControl Express License In order to run MQControl Express, you need a license. AW: Free MQ management tool
it looks like a "try before you buy" version anyway. limited features in the express version (had a look at the docs). the instalation procedure seems to be buggy, i have both client and server installed on my machine (mq 5.2.1) but the installation process says "client not installed" and terminates the installation. but maybe this is only related to my installation you also have to fill a form with personal and company data before you are allowed to download. regards stefan -Ursprungliche Nachricht- Von: Sam Garforth [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 28.
