Ow F#ck off... if it wasn't for henrik, we probably wouldn't even have had
an ide-interface... and that the first versions of a product are crap is
pretty
normal, especially when it has to be as cheap as possible. Cause there is no
time,
no money and not enuf people to test it But even then, the first
versions
of pc-hardware are crap and unstable even after they've spent millions on
testing.

and if you cant live with that, dont buy new hardware, at least not the
new
products, just wait a few months and buy an upgraded product.

Pepijn (who bought the first version of henriks IDE-interface and is happy
with it).

p.s. Thanks Henrik!!

Pablo Vasques Bravo-Villalba soltó algo así como:

What do you mean by a sequencer? I don't think

A CUBASE-style program.

tracker-style programs are bullshit. Many of
them are even used for professional works. My

Trackers are used only to make dance music and
similar.

first contact with PC music was with a se-
quencing program named Cakewalk for DOS. I
thought it was great, but I never achieved
great productivity with it (maybe because I
actually didn't have any MIDI input device)

Do you know the actual versions of CakeWalk?
I use EVERY DAY the Cakewalk Pro Audio v9.0
(I work as composer/arranger/producer at a
recording studio).
That program is similar to Cubase VST or Logic Audio.

and eventually found FT2 and everything was
 good. :)

This is I think about trackers:

FT2 is bullshit.
ST3 is bullshit.
IT is bullshit.
MoonBlaster is BIG BULLSHIT.

Ok so you don't like trackers
who cares! lots of other HOBBY
composers do like trackers, just
because they are user-friendly.
Not everyone is a professional in the
music industry and doesn't need
more than a "simple" tracker.
I agree moonblaster isn't the
perfect music editor, but hey
if I want to do professional stuff
I use my pc, if I want to have a
lot of fun, I use my msx. And I
think you don't remember the charm
of working on a good ol' msx
with all it's limitations. I really though
that was what msx is all about,
why else are we still use it and not some
10 kazillion gigahertz pc

But I still miss MML music programming. Some-
times it's cumbersome, but it's the best way
to define short note sequences. Think drums
 or arpeggios. :)

I think MML is the best (actual) way to make
music on MSX. Using MuSICA I can sequence any kind
of music, there is no musical limitations as
occurs on trackers.

This is getting off-topic, but this is the

Not off-topic! I think it is very important
to speak about music editors because there is no
good programs for MSX. It would be nice if we
had a good music editor.
Could you imagine if we got the editor used by
Microcabin? We only can dream of this.

point: a bad sequencer will never be better
than a good tracker. Bad sequencers, bad
trackers, badly designed MML... This is

I don't agree at all . Trackers are BAD
because they have 'phisical' limitations.
Using a tracker, MoonBlaster for example,
I cannot make irregular groups like
triplets, etc., I can't record live phrases,

sample ram, ever heard of it?

I can't achieve a good timing resolution,

be creative, you'll find something

I can't make 'feeling', 'human' music,

probably your own limitations

I can't use different measures than 4/4...

try reading the manual... you'll see it can be done.

Pathetic.

if all of this is so pathetic, why don't you sell your msx?

what I'd call bullshit. MSX, as any other
system, benefits a lot from good SOFTWARE.

Of course. But I'm sure at this point: MuSICA
is better than MonsterBlaster, for instance.
MML allows making music similar to the music
made using a good sequencer (cakewalk/cubase alike).

I don't mean to piss people off with this,
but I just had to get this off my chest.

It's a MSX OS, you can download it from
 http://195.178.221.229/msx/warez/os/index.htm

Can someone say to me how does it work and something about it ? Is it a
UNIX
 clone or DOS like ?
 Thanks a lot, bye,
   Stefano

I too saw the movie. It was called 'Mama is boos' but it's the sequel to 'de
schatjes'. The kids in that movie were indeed playing on an MSX1. One from
Sony that is. It's the one with the joystick at the cursorkeys!... I think a
photo of just such an MSX was made in Bussum '99.. It's online at funet, and
it is a red Sony MSX. Though the one used in the movie was a black one. The
game the played was 'Childsplay' a game from 1984 by KoNami.

it is also known as 'athletic land' and it was actually the first videogame
I ever played :)
when I was visiting 'evoluon' in eindhoven as a little kid. they had
konami's golf

They started
showing the MSX when they started the game. Even the music was 'recorded'
and put at the back-ground, just as if you were hearing it while playing the
game. The music played was even the music played in the original
Childsplay...

My sister's monitor is acting weird, at first it occasionally stopped

else suggested it could be solved by re-soldering some contacts with a brown
'ring' of -english verb for 'hars'- around it.

Well, that problem is solved, but now there is a new problem: the sound
can't be adjusted anymore and it can only be very loud. I have tested
the variable resistor ('potmeter'), but that one seems to work fine. Any
suggestions???

it might be a stupid thought but
maybe you short-circuited the volume control somewhere when soldering??
if the volume control is bypassed by some short-circuit, that would explain
why
it is always very loud.

I also have another monitor with working sound, but also with a
display-problem, a bit alike the problem of the previous monitor, but in
this case the monitor 'fades' out. A pat on the back sometimes works but the
longer it's on the worse the problem gets. I already have tried the
resoldering-trick, but that didn't help.

I had this problem with my monitor too, in my case re-soldering worked fine.
my parents had the same problem with a philips tv once, re-soldering didn't
work,
it was cheaper to buy a new one than to get it fixed :(

Anywayz, now that we are talking about monitors, does anyone have a
powerswitch for a Philips CM 8802 monitor? Mine broke, so now I can
only turn on my monitor by placing a heavy object against the switch.

It is normal.
The MSX DiskRom only accept 8 drives (a-h).
H is reserved for disk-ram.
So I guess that E and F are your two floppy drives.

And you partitions are only 32 mb large because MSXDOS use FAT12.

so if 6x32=192Mb then that's like not even 20% of my total

You can use the tools: "enapar" and and "dispar" to enable or disable the
partition number you want. Then you can assign a letter of drive to some
active partition with the tool "par".

For example:
If you have 31 partitions (32Mb each one), when you start your computer
you have:
A assigned to partition 0
B assigned to partition 1
[...]
E assigned to partition 4

Then, when you wanto to use partition number 12 (for example) you can do:

enapar 12
par a=12

So now, you can access to the partition 12 using the A drive.

I have written code that emulates SCC or SCC+ on a MoonSound. Jerome
Borsboom has written code that emulates SCC+ on 2 normal SCCs. So there are
enough options to play the original music.

If a reprogramming is done, why not allow the user to select either
original music or re-arranged music?

[Ripping GFX from PSX version]

So how do you want to "snatch" these graphics? I own a Explorer so I can
grab some pictures. But animations would be a problem.

Another option is to rip GFX directly from CD, by writing the appropriate
converter. If the file format is not too difficult, this will work very well.

Another problem is
the size of the pictures and the amount of colors used. It has to be screen
8 or even 12.

Or we could finally make a GFX9000 game...
GFX9000 can display 15bit pictures, which is the highest color depth that
the PSX supports.

hm I don't think this is a very good idea, as not many people
own a gfx9000 (including me) but it is a nice idea to make a gfx9000 version
too.

[Editing as GIF or BMP]

Why convert it first from pc to MSX? It is a MSX game, so we make it on MSX.

Ever heard of the term "cross-development"? The professionals use it all
the time.

BMP or GIF files can't be used on MSX directely, so we cannot use them.

Writing a BMP to screen 5 converter is much easier than writing a game like
Snatcher...
