C.K. Here’s the message I sent to Mark this morning...

First of all: wow, wow and wow. You have made my day Mark with this sharing
of yours of Zettelkasten. Been looking at this “thing” for the past hour or
so. Great stuff!!!
And while in my Zettelkasten google searching, I dropped on this, and am
thinking it could be of interest to you.

https://link.medium.com/MfH51JgXBfb

For your info, I just discovered AirTable about 3 weeks ago, and it is
being litteraly a game/life changer for me.

And in the next few days, I will implement this Zettelkasten metho. into my
Airtable base.

Have a good one

Re: [MLO] Re: « Daily » goal!

2021-01-24 Thread Luc Poitras
Thanks Dwight!
For the « open/close » approach, wouldn’t work in my « 10 000 steps
completed » daily goal because this is something I want to achieve during
the day, without knowing exactly when it’s gonna happen (I know I’m there
when it says 10 000+ steps on my IPhone health app.
And I suppose using the star could work.
Until now, with your examples, I will continu using context that ressembles
your « daily goal » approach.
But, still, I much prefer calling a cat... a cat, and still believe there
should be this in edit tasks: Goal: None; Daily; Weekly; Monthly; Yearly.
Thanks again Dwight!

Re: [MLO] Re: « Daily » goal!

2021-01-24 Thread Luc Poitras
I like that... Haven’t seen it this way.
An example could be something like: « 70 000 steps completed » and this
would be a « Goal: Weekly »... and then have 7 separate tasks called: « 10
000 steps completed » ... one for each day... with the « day specific goal
» connected to each.
If you know a bit about GTD, you should remember these: Day specific
information; Day specific actions; Time specific actions; and maybe Day
specific goal now.

[MLO] « Daily » goal!

2021-01-23 Thread Luc Poitras
Guys! Recommendation here
And still don’t understand why this « daily » goal is not implemented yet.
I believe/ suppose it would take just a few steps to integrate for MLO app.

Here is an example why this feature would be helpful:
Let’s say I want to walk 8000 steps today... 500 more steps than the 7500
steps I did yesterday. I would create a « daily » goal of 8000 steps, and
in the advanced filter, I would then group by goal.

Another example:
I want to ensure to empty my inboxes... and I know I have multiple inboxes
(On desk, on Phone, emails, etc) So I would choose « Goal: Daily » in this
« Empty my inboxes » element.
And in my day view, there would be a goal group with the « Empty my inboxes
» and « Walk 8000 steps » in it... AND possibly the actions related also
appearing under them.

What do you think?
PS: Was thinking of creating a project with end date today... could work...
but wouldn’t it be more clear knowing and seeing this Goal daily group?
Thanks
Luc

Re: [MLO] Re: Gantt-type representation of projects

2019-06-27 Thread Luc Poitras
Without having read the responses here, have you thought of grouping your
tasks in « « work blocks »?
Ex.: I always loose control of house being clean and stuff...
So, the family and I decided to only allow 1 pomodoro (25 minutes) per day
for cleanup and putting back in order.
So, then and only when the cleanup pomodoro starts I will focus on this
aspect of my life.

And you figure it out, 1 pomodoro of 25 minutes every day, and you multiply
this by a factor of 3 (me, my wife and my daughter) its 75 minutes of it
per day.

Also, I have a context that I call « cleanup pomo » so I click on it when
the time comes... and the actions show up...

Hope it helps and makes sense to you!

Re: [MLO] Opening a view in MLO using Siri?

2018-10-26 Thread Luc Poitras
Anf if not, in mlo custom view settings, why not create a possible “say
siri” for every view out there?
Just an idea...
I can just imagine opening my “to-do today” view by just asking... and
opening in an instant my “august 2019” view to see what will be my active
projects then...

Re: [MLO] Re: Best Time/Life Organization Method to Use With MLO

2018-10-16 Thread Luc Poitras
Besides others, I like the idea of dropping tasks within related time
blocks, and also using the Pomodoro method.
For example, if I have a long list of tasks related to “home maintenance”,
I know I will have each day a 30 minutes Pomodoro (25 minutes of completing
tasks... + 5 minutes break) solely completing home maintenance tasks... and
when the 30 minutes is over, all tasks not completed wil be pushed to the
next day.
The time blocking method can for example be used for an important active
project. You can decide you will complete a Pomododo every day related
exclusively to THAT project... so you can be sure that at the end of the 5
day work week, you will have put 150 minutes of productive work exclusively
on that project...

Hope this helps!

Re: [MLO] Re: Question: How to indicate a Project's Status is a Someday/Maybe, MLO project properties or Context?

2016-05-11 Thread Luc Poitras
I think I just found a way that works FOR ME:
- I have a Workspace called "Projets en cours" meaning Active Projects;
- In this Workspace, in the AdvancedFilter, I have "IsProject is true";
- Based on David Allen's GTD, we should always do a weekly review, and within
this weekly review plan the week ahead;
- Let's say we are sunday the 08 of mai today and I am doing my weekly review;
- I will modify the date of sunday the 08 to sunday the 15th of mai in the "To"
within the StartDate Filter on the left, and leave the "From" blank to leave
the already active projects intact.
- I also check the "Hide Undated" box in the StartDate Filter. And so, if I
feel that an undated futur project should appear in the Active Project
Workspace, I will then create a start date within this week for it, and this
project will (from now on) appear in my Active Project Workspace.

Hope this helps,
Luc

Re: [MLO] Re: Suggestion: New Group (or new forum) for MLO new users?

2014-12-10 Thread Luc Poitras
Hi John,
(On a very large scale here if I may), one thing is for sure: You are an
intense guy!
And please don't get me wrong here, my comment is not a critic that I am
adressing to you, but being more of an observation.
And between you and me, I want to tell you this: I feel the same way!...
Things around me are not moving fast enough! Change around me is not happening
at a fast enough paste!
And if I understand correctly what you are saying, there is not (in this case
the MLO community) enough sharing of knowledge, not enough interactions
between..., not enough here is what I feel or think about this and that, and
I would appreciate some feedback, and even more and more feedback if you will,
and maybe also not enough Can we work this thing together (this powerful mlo
app!) so we can build kind of an approach where we could minimally use it in
a more functional way?
This is not an attempt here, on my part, to give answers.
And to you John, I say keep up the good work, we need guys like you to shake
it up, and to provoque change.
And to the other mlo forum members who take the time to answer the questions, I
just want to say thanks to you. I do not always follow where you are getting at
when it turns more on the technical side of it, but I take what I can and try
to make something out of it.

You have a valid point that I am no longer a total new user - valid up to a
point. However unlike those who have been here for many years, the experience
is extremely fresh in mind, believe me.

In truth I bear the fresh wounds in my flesh from a vicious attack from the
existing inhabitants, which was caused by my charging into a what appeared at
the time (compared to other forums for software with many millions of users)
to be half asleep forum but which turned out to be full of highly
intelligent/ thoughtful old-timers who objected to:
 - my whirlwind of naive questions without reading the entire manual first
(even though yes I did do text searches for all relevant options that I
 failed to understand!),
 - my honest emotions including huge frustrations
 - my carefully considered suggestions as to how MLO might improve the user
experience... whilst it *was* fresh in mind at the time.

OK so when I was a new user I got grief for giving a load of new user
feedback (no matter how much I tied to ensure that it was constructive), and
now my new user feedback is no longer valid!

In retrospect part of my mistake was to move my whole life onto MLO too
quickly. But in my defence nobody warned me - nobody said Don't move in to
MLO too quickly. I did this because I had a window for spare time to do so.
However approach this added huge amounts of stress because suddenly the
control of my entire life was... out of control!

In fact perhaps like many other new users I was engaged in a time-limited
project to find a new productivity tool and I had already burnt up a fair bit
of time researching and evaluating *other* tools. This added yet more
 time-pressure!

 *   *   *

What I am suggesting is that a new users' forum is the place where new users
are encouraged to ask their necessarily naive questions. But that not ALL
experts will be expected to follow that thread, certainly not all the time
that is. They may not want emails rattling into their inboxes from new
users... BUT when they have a little time on their hands, yes they may like
to dip in and see what's going on with the new users.

Of course SOME expert users may like to subscribe to the new users dialogues.
But others may not. And by creating a physically separate forum for new
users, only then does it become possible for expert users to get an email
from every other expert but NOT get any from every new user.

i.e. They can follow new users using different email settings for each group.

And even if an expert user has subscribed to BOTH it saves a lot of time for
the reader to know up front whether one is dealing with a novice or a
 seasoned user.

Yes, obviously any user can discuss MLO anywhere that they choose... and they
could in fact start their own Google Group too(!). I have not done so because
although I also feel that this would antagonise this community. Moreover as
you point out unless it was officially sanctioned by MLO website it may not
get very much traffic. Although yes it would be some traffic from anyone
searching Google for MLO forum or MLO community etc

If you or MLO are worried about people commiserating about how badly it
 sucks you have two choices.

 A) Step in and help show the way

 B) Listen to them!
What is it that is not being explained correctly? How are the user's
expectations being mis-managed. What do new users really need to hear so that
their expectations are in line with reality.

RE: [MLO] Cancelled Projects

2014-01-16 Thread Luc Poitras
For my part, I also have a workSpace titled Calendared projects. For me,
these projects are not suspended or on hold, or Not Started, but are in the
calendar for a futur date.

And what I did is put in advanced filter the following rules :

Is Project;

Project status In Progress;

Start date after today.

Also, in General Filter, I have put Show Hierarchy :Yes. This way, concerning
a futur InProgress project, I am able to add information directly from that
WorkSpace.

So, the main reason I did this is to differenciate the Suspended projects
from the already blocked in futur calendar date projects.

Cancelled means that there are no future plans to work on the project. However,

…..But I also agree that having customizable project group names would make it
much easier.

The other thing I find confusing is that I seem to have too many projects in
Not Started that should go instead in Someday Maybe.

And I realize that just the struggle I have right now of trying to put a name
on the project status explains why I would also recommend customizable project
group names.

So, this unique software, combined with tutorials, would be even more unique in

[MLO] A simple idea about goals! You tell me!

2012-12-11 Thread Luc Poitras
For me, weekly, monthly and yearly (goals) does not resonate.
Would it be more appropriate to categorize goals within these?
This week, This month, or This year!
And I know we had discussions about goals before in this forum, but here I go
anyways!

Example:
Plan the Christmas Holiday.
I decided that Plan the Christmas Holiday is no more a project of mine, but
is instead a goal.
The reason I changed it to a goal is because there is a lot of projects
underneath it:
-Put lights in trees ouside;
- buy and decorate christmas tree;
- Decorate the center of dining table;
Buy gifts;
- prepare christmas food, etc.

So! Every single project here is grouped under Plan the Christmas Holiday

NOW, on this december 11th, if I had to choose between This week;  This month;
This year, this goal would go, at this date, in This month.

...and when we get to, let's say, the 19th of december, I will switch it to
This week...And on december the 26th, it will go in This year goal...

So, in other words here, Plan the Christmas Holiday is more of a This month
goal, than a monthly goal, wouldn't you say?

You tell me if I'm in the You say tomato, I say tomato stuff here...I've had
more than my share of Getting too much into details before!

Thanks!
Luc
And by the way, Happy Holidays!

Re: [MLO] Re: Just discovered a way to use goals wisely!…wisely for me I mean!

2012-06-14 Thread Luc Poitras
Wow Robisme...I totally agree with this one. The idea of having a goal for
(to)day or goal for day would be awesome. But then again, having a goal for
day, AND having the possibility of choosing which day of this week you want
to complete that goal (which is different than putting a due date as you said)
would be even more awesomeThis would be like (kind of) response to the
need, a lot of us have, of implementing a calendar into mlo.

...Just trying here to push the idea of day goal a little further!

PS: I have the impression that some of you would argue that you can just put a
star beside the task, instead of create a goal for day, but I feel that goal
for day and starred would'nt have the same function!
But maybe I'm wrong! Haven't analysed this!

Thanks Robisme!

  Hi!
Just want to share with you my discovery. I know a lot of you use goals,
and I read your posts about the subject.
But for my part, I never, until an hour ago, found a way to integrate this
aspect into my personal action management system.
So here it is, and you tell me if it makes sense:
  - First of all, I am very GTD friendly;
  - So when something needs more than one action to be completed, I check the
  Project box in the mlo Properties...unless it's too easy to do;
  - The problem I faced is that there was too much In progress projects on
  my list;
  - I tried before (lots of time) to just put the projects that I know I
wouldn't do this week in the Projects suspended, but for a mysterious
reason, it wasn't working for me...wasn't fluid enough...it's like if, in
my sense, a project is active (In Progress) or not active (Not started),
  or completed, and nothing else!
  - So my discovery is that at the beginning of the week, I take a look at
all my In progress projects, and the ones that I know I want to be done
this week, I put them as Goals this week...so they become both a In
  progress project and a Goal this week;
  - Beside all my other views in To do, I have one now called Liste de mes
  objectifs pour cette semaine (List of my goals for this week);
  - And in this view, in the advanced filter, I have Goal=week; and I have
Action filter: Available (you can put Action filter: Active if you
  want)
  - In my Group and sort, I have Grouped by Top Project; then Grouped by
Project, then Grouped by context; PSSS! Make sure you put Grouped by
Project , not Grouped by Goal ...You will understand why when you try
  it!
  - So, what I see in my Liste de mes objectifs pour cette semaine view, is
only the projects in progress (or active I would say) that I absolutely
want to work on, or finish this week...with their respective available
  actions underneath.
  - I am also evaluating now the possibility of always keeping the View:
Goals in Outline, instead of always having it on View: All tasks; And if
I want in Outline to work on something other than my Goals this week, I can
just switch back anytime in View: All tasks.

Hummm! just realised I could create a List of my goals for this month
view ,...meaning that here I would have available all of my In Progress
Projects\ Goals this month that I can't work on this week, or that are due
  in the next few weeks.

  Sincerely!
  Luc

Sorry for the delay Lisa in answering you're question a couple of weeks ago
about me giving you more ideas in which I use the contexts in combination with
the pomodoro technique. To be honest, I still struggle with this, and I'm
stubborn enough not to let go of the bone until I find the wright approach. As
soon as I have enough meat around that bone, I will let you know.
But then again, if I keep on attacking the bone in a stubborn way, there will

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts on Contexts. I'm finally getting
around to really sitting down and analyzing all the possibilities, and this
 all helps.

I really do want to use Contexts in some way that actually helps me work.
(And for me my system also has to sync to Android). I've switched over to a
combination of goals and starred for my prioritization (though I'm drawn to
 the idea of focusing more on the Week than on each day, as Dave C discusses;
I'll reply to that email separately though).

Mikeaja, I think you have a good point; I can draw from GTD what I want, and
discard the rest. What I find is that tweaking my system in itself is one of
my productivity techniques -- it keeps it fresh even without necessarily
 adding functionality.

João -- can you tell me more about your energy demand contexts and how they
help? I don't think I can do too many types of contexts because the
Android app's filtering is a bit basic, but that one calls to me and I might
combine it with Luc's Pomodoro suggestion.

Luc, I think the Pomodoro technique could really help me and I really
appreciate the suggestion. I tend to be a yak shaver (
 http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/Y/yak-shaving.html ) -- yesterday I
reconfigured my phone's dialing system when I was really supposed to be
making a quick call for a haircut appointment! I downloaded the free book
from http://www.pomodorotechnique.com/book.html but haven't read it, only
the quick reference sheet. I like that it can be compatible with other
 systems too.

If I understand you correctly, you have contexts that correspond to what
Pomodoro you group them into? So cleaning cat's litter and watering
plants would have the same context? I also think Pomodoro might be good for
grouping tasks into energy demands, that perhaps this could be built into the
Pomodoro Contexts too, maybe that is what you are saying? After all, Home
chores often have similar energy expenditures, Landscape has different ones,
 etc.

Can you tell me what naming system you use for your Pomodoro contexts? If
you have a bunch more than you listed (that are not work specific of course)
 I would love any ideas.

Also there are about two dozen Android pomodoro apps...I'm hoping I can find
one that doesn't try to do what MLO does but just acts as the timer part..

 Thanks again, everyone :)

So, after I've taken a break by doing anything I desire, I can just start
another pomodoro that I have engaged myself to do every day, like personal
development studies. For example here, I listen every day to Steve Job's
vision of the world on You Tube (inspires me a lot; you can google it
easely)...and I read inspiring quotes in this daily personal development

Now, what about the contexts in all this? For me, context is not just where
I am at the moment (place context), but also the kind of work I want to do
in this or that moment (situational context).
I tried to mix both place and situational contexts, and put at the same time
in there the pomodoro technique, so it looks something like this:

 Home/ My daily (or today's) domestic chores pomodoro;

Home/ Today's landscaping pomodoro (if it rains, I just skip it for that
 day);

Home office/ bill payments pomodoro (this context is open 24 hours each
 Thursday);

 Anywhere/ personal study pomodoro.
In this context for example, I have daily recurrence for my Steve Jobs
vision of the world; but I have quotes that are weekly recurrence (I just

[MLO] Just discovered a way to use goals wisely!…wisely for me I mean!

2012-04-23 Thread Luc Poitras
Hi!
Just want to share with you my discovery. I know a lot of you use goals, and
I read your posts about the subject.
But for my part, I never, until an hour ago, found a way to integrate this
aspect into my personal action management system.
So here it is, and you tell me if it makes sense:
- First of all, I am very GTD friendly;
- So when something needs more than one action to be completed, I check the
Project box in the mlo Properties...unless it's too easy to do;
- The problem I faced is that there was too much In progress projects on my
list;
- I tried before (lots of time) to just put the projects that I know I wouldn't
do this week in the Projects suspended, but for a mysterious reason, it
wasn't working for me...wasn't fluid enough...it's like if, in my sense, a
project is active (In Progress) or not active (Not started), or completed, and
nothing else!
- So my discovery is that at the beginning of the week, I take a look at all
my In progress projects, and the ones that I know I want to be done this
week, I put them as Goals this week...so they become both a In progress
project and a Goal this week;
- Beside all my other views in To do, I have one now called Liste de mes
objectifs pour cette semaine (List of my goals for this week);
- And in this view, in the advanced filter, I have Goal=week; and I have
Action filter: Available (you can put Action filter: Active if you want)
- In my Group and sort, I have Grouped by Top Project; then Grouped by
Project, then Grouped by context; PSSS! Make sure you put Grouped by Project
, not Grouped by Goal ...You will understand why when you try it!
- So, what I see in my Liste de mes objectifs pour cette semaine view, is
only the projects in progress (or active I would say) that I absolutely want to
work on, or finish this week...with their respective available actions
underneath.
- I am also evaluating now the possibility of always keeping the View: Goals
in Outline, instead of always having it on View: All tasks; And if I want in
Outline to work on something other than my Goals this week, I can just switch
back anytime in View: All tasks.

Hummm! just realised I could create a List of my goals for this month view
,...meaning that here I would have available all of my In Progress Projects\
Goals this month that I can't work on this week, or that are due in the next
few weeks.

Sincerely!
Luc

[MLO] Found (I think) my best layout for use of mlo, everywhere, in windows environnement!

2012-03-28 Thread Luc Poitras
Hi everyone!
Before I start, I just want to say: Bear with me.
And let me just say this! I'm sure that there are lots of people here who read
the emails in this forum, who are passionate about using mlo, who see it's
great potential, and who have great ideas that they sometimes would like to
share...but don't because they can't compete with the knowledge, the
experience of some of you here, or the fact that english is not there first
and main language (like me for example; I speak french)... or wathever other
reasons you might think of.

So here goes, bear with me!

I am trying to find, for a long time now, the best tools, or layout, to be able
to use mlo everywhere (home, office, on the road, etc) and always being able to
use it in windows environnement: I just want to be able to use the full
capacity of mlo, and that, everywhere I may be!!!
I've tried mlo on iphone, and tried mlo on ipad, and tried mlo with parralels
on my Mac 27 inch (still use parralels on Mac, but dropped mlo for iphone and
ipad cause feels for me too limited, compared to mlo in windows!)
That being said, I want to share with you what I think would be the best way,
in my own opinion, to use mlo with windows, in all circonstances.

I just had a long talk with somebody I know who manages and owns in my region
(Canada's National Capital) a relatively big company who sells computers and
software to public and govermental firms. I was explaining my needs to him, and
was telling him I was considering buying a tablet with windows environnement.
Tablet because:
- it's portable, and don't necessarily see myself transporting a laptop
everywhere I go;
- because it would be kind of having an Ipad... with windows on it;
- and for a couple of other reasons.

So to get to my point here (sorry guys it takes so long) we came up with an
interesting layout, considering that windows base tablets don't take much
market place yet!

So...Not cheap but interesting layout:

Using the Lenovo Thinkpad x220 tablet. (there's a laptop x220 and a tablet
x220). The tablet x220 is like the best of both worlds (laptop vs tablet).

So here is my scenario:
- At my desktop at home, I would clip my x220 tablet on the Lenovo dock (sold
separately) so to work in mlo on my big screen;
- On the road, I unclip from the dock my x220 and it becomes my tablet I've
always wanted; let's say I'm waiting at the dentist, I can still use the full
capacities of mlo no problem;
- X220 tablet is touchscreen... obviously;
- If I'm in my living room and want to work in mlo, I can just transform my
tablet into a laptop by turning the screen around.

...Am on a cloud right now because I can see all the ease of use of this
layout, and for me, ease of use takes a large part in the decisions I make!

So, what do you think?
Any other layouts you think would fit my needs (full mlo capabilities
everywhere!)
Now, don't blow my bubble here! (just kidding!)

Sincerely yours!
Luc

Re: [MLO] Found (I think) my best layout for use of mlo, everywhere, in windows environnement!

2012-03-28 Thread Luc Poitras
Thanks Mark for your response!
I heard about these ultrabooks! Effectively, they are not cheap!
And by the way, seems that the touchscreen will be much more efficient under
windows 8, configured especially in part for the tablets, so that would solve
at least that problem!
And lastly, about the battery life, seems that the 6 cells battery that comes
in the box with the x220 tablet lasts about 7 hours, and if you switch to the 9
cells, it will last for about 12 hours if i'm not mistaking.
Anyways, thanks again, and see you soon maybe in a coffee shop on the Byward
market!

2012-03-28 Thread Luc Poitras
This is one of my next move Leigh. I gave a friend 20$ two weeks ago to install
mlo on his ipad to try it out. Now, I'm gonna find another friend who has an
android tablet , give him 20 bucks, and try mlo on his android tablet.

PS: Am I missing something here! Actually, I would love to use mlo on ipad, or
even maybe on android tablet, but seems the flags (I use a lot) and the
Outline/To-do...don't exist. And when some great idea that needs elaboration
comes to my mind, I need the full functionnalities of mlo NOW to process it.
It's not that I'm a big baby and need everything now. It's just that my work
schedule permits that!

What I do is I have a grouping, Morning Routine, but each task has it's own
recurrence. Most of mine are set to recur 1 day after this task is
completed. This way, I don't have to catch them up if it has been a few
 days.

For me Lisa, I prefer the idea of catching up on a series of tasks to get
them back to today's date for one of these two reasons:

First, every time I get into the process of ticking the boxes and catch up, I
automatically question myself if these recurring tasks have really there reason
of being there. If not, I will need to change something in my routine, or
delete some of them;

Secondly, if I find these tasks have really there place, the more I 'm not to
date on these recurring tasks, the more it creates a tension inside, and
pushes me to find a way to stay up to date; In other words, it tells me to be
more proactive!

Hope this makes sense here!

like the ability to flag a set of tasks (or parent with sub-tasks) to

The same system for the alarms could potentially be used to trigger the
expiration, and that would have an additional effect that if such a task had
an alarm, it should go away when the task expires.

One issue, though, is that I don't think the option can go in the advanced
recurrence options box this way, because it would seem to apply to
individual subtasks whose recurrence is inherited. It almost would need to
be another field, expiration date, separate from due-date, and if an
expiration date were set, the task would be marked complete at that time,
and all other recurrence options would take over from there.

If we can narrow it down a bit further you could add it to uservoice and
  start collecting votes :)

[MLO] Dependancies with contexts, anyway possible?

2011-12-19 Thread Luc Poitras
Hi!
Just like you can have dependancies between tasks, how about dependancies
within contexts.
Here is my simple example:
- I wake up in the morning, not out of bed yet, so here is context Waking up.
- tasks like: 1-Do specific breathing exercices to reenergise; 2- writing down
fresh ideas for projects while still in a pending or blurry state of mind
(brainstorming); specific stretching exercices in bed to revigorifier.

Then comes the Getting out of bed context, where tasks like: 1- start coffee
machine; make bed; prepare breakfast for the 3 year old; read journal; etc.

Then I have more contexts like these that follow, like Getting inbox to empty
pomodoro and Cleaning chores pomodoro

So, there is a sequence here that obviously has to be respected, (for me I
mean) like Getting inbox to empty not coming before Cleaning chores
pomodoro context.

I want the appropriate contexts to appear, once the precedent context tasks has
been completed!!!

And if I may, before somebody suggests it, the open and closed hours for
context don't work because my work schedule varies, so I don't come out of bed
necesseraly at the same time each morning.

In other words, I just hate having contexts appear that are not actionable in
the present moment, but that will maybe be actionable in 10 minutes, once I
clear the tasks of the present active context.
Thanks!
Luc!
Hope I am clear enough!

 Hi Luc,
If you want to propose dependencies between contexts, you should write
it up on the website at mlo.uservoice.com - if it gets a lot of votes
 it will be noticed.

Meanwhile, as a workaround, I wonder if you have considered using
 projects instead of contexts.

 Imagine the following:
 [] Daily routine (project)
   [] Get up (project)
  [] Wake up (task)
  [] Get outta bed (task)
   [] Get started (project)
[] Drag a comb across my head
  [] Find my way downstairs
  [] Have a cup

Daily Routine is defined as a project that repeats daily, with all
tasks regenerated on recurrence, and with recurrence happening when
all tasks are complete. Everything else is defined as inherit dates
 from parent.

Get Started is dependent on Get up

When the day starts, the only active tasks (in this section) are wake
up, get outta bed. When you have completed these two tasks, the
project get up appears on your list and has to be checked off, but
as soon as you have done this, the last three tasks show up. There's
an added step of checking off the get up project but other then
thst, it seems to do what you want.

[MLO] ...change project status automatically!

2011-05-19 Thread Luc Poitras
So, here is the example again:

*Outline*
*Folder:* Projects in progress
 - Buy used car for my daughter (project status: In
progress)

*Folder:* Projects suspended
 - Plan trip to Vegas in september (project status:
Suspended)

Lets say I change my mind and I want to put the 'Buy used car...project' in
the 'project suspended' folder. Is there any way, via the advanced options,
that the status of the project changes automatically.

In other words: the condition is that any project that is placed under
Project suspended folder will automatically have a Project suspended status.

Thanks in advanced

Thanks Lisa for your answer!
Worked out partially well!
The problem that occured is that ALL items (also those who are not part of a
project) have a not started default setting. So, that being said, when I
apply what you recommend, the actions related to a in progress project appear
in to- do, but all other actions related to a checklist (non project)
dissapear, because of that default not started!
But wait (just have an idea here), if I switch to in progress all of my
checklists, maybe that would work!
Thanks again!
Going to try this last approach!

[MLO] Don't want actions from not started or suspended project to show in to-do

2011-05-15 Thread Luc Poitras
There is something in the project management in mlo that is, in my sense,
completely illogic. Tell me if there is something I'm missing here:
If I change the status of a project from In progress to suspended or not
started, the actions related to that project should (automatically) not show
in to-do anymore.
Or, at least, there should be a checkbox somewhere, giving me the possibility
to work within mlo that way.
And by the way, I find it's one too many steps to 1) change project status to
lets say Suspended and then 2) Hide that project's branch in to-do.
Any comments would be appreciated!

[MLO] landscape view for iphone

2011-01-10 Thread Luc Poitras
I understand that the iphone version just came out, and the list of to do's
for the mlo team is long, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one strugling

having a hard time finding the information I want in my mlo outline cause
there is always missing half of the description. After just a couple of
words, these dots (...) appears and I don't have the time and patience to
click on each of the descriptions to see what it really is.

I suppose and hope this landscape view is gonna appear in the next version!

Anyone here wanting a landscape view for the iphone, just like a lot of
other iphone apps?

Thanks in advance!

Re: [MLO] Re: Recurring Tasks

2010-05-03 Thread Luc Poitras
I too use mlo as a calendar, and like Richard C, use the duplicate
function to generate multiple copies of the same task which I then
manually allocate to their future dates/times.. Would be very convenient to
be able to see the futur recurring tasks just by ticking a box.
Luc

2010/5/2 Richard C r...@rcollings.co.uk

This has been much requested but does present some problems for those
activities which are regenerated on the basis of when they are
 completed.

However, the combination of the desire to see future recurring tasks
and the fact that you can't easily adjust the dates of individual
recurring tasks has meant that I have started using the duplicate
function to generate multiple copies of the same task which I then
manually allocate to their future dates/times. I still use the
current Task Recurrence mechanism for some tasks but it really doesn't
work for me in quite a lot of circumstances.

So I was wondering whether it might be possible to provide a tick box
on the Task Recurrence dialog box which when ticked generates on
commit a set of actual task instances. This would allow the existing
functionality to be retained (and it would be greyed when one of the
 'Regenerate' options was chosen).

Re: [MLO] Re: How do you save Hotkey settings for a view?

2010-02-04 Thread Luc Poitras
Talking about free apps concerning hotkeys, have any of you ever heard about
Activewords. If so, you think there's any added value of having something
similar integrated into mlo. I haven't used hotkeys for a while in mlo cause
I find them for my part to be too restreining. I would love to be able (just
like activewords) to type a keyword like ex: *zcl* and then press F8 (*z*oomed
view of *c*heck*l*ists folder in outline view)...just like
activewords...and a zoomed view of my checklists folder in outline view
would appear on my screen. The main purpose here is to had meaning behind
the active word I use so I don't forget it and secondly, having an infinite
choice of hotkeys to use to move from one place to another within mlo.
You tell me if I make sense here. This is just an idea!
Thanks!
Luc

2010/2/3 pottster kenwarren...@googlemail.com

There is an excellent free app called ActiveHotkeys which tests your
system for active Global hotkeys. I would stress that this finds
assigned GLOBAL hotkeys, you would still need to check for conflicting
 pre-assigned hotkeys within MLO.

[MLO] Re: Feature Request: Save state of columns in search results

2009-11-11 Thread Luc Poitras
Agree with Luciano about column size in search functionality
Luc

2009/11/11 Luciano Passuello luci...@passuello.name

 Hi Andrey, all,

I use the search functionality a lot. I love it, except for the fact that
it doesn't persist the column sizes when I close/reopen MLO. I only care
about the caption of the tasks (first column), and I must always widen the
column so I can read. Ideally, one should be able to hide the other columns,
but if that's not easy to implement, persisting the column sizes among
instances would be a real time-saver for me!!

 Thanks!
