How about we try some simple diagnostics

1) In your BIOS do you have Plug-and-Play OS Turned on? Change the
Plug-and-Play OS option (if on - turn off, if off turn on) to see if the
Motherboard recognizes the card.
2) Look for a bios entry for "Reset PCI" - or something similarly worded,
toggle this on.
3) Try resetting your CMOS to factory settings (which typically work).

If none of these work - I'm out of ideas.

[mythtv-users] Disable screen blanking

I cannot figure out why my screen goes blank after so long. I haven't
timed the interval, but it's about 10-15 minutes. The only way I can get

do it for some reason which I don't understand either.

Anyway, I have this in my .xsession:
xset s noblank
xset s off
xset -dpms s off

I'm running Slackware current, and I editted my /etc/rc.d/rc.M to this:
# Screen blanks after 15 minutes idle time, and powers down in one hour
# if the kernel supports APM or ACPI power management:
#/bin/setterm -blank 15 -powersave powerdown -powerdown 60
/bin/setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0

What am I missing here?

If you're committed to using a real keyboard, then there's no point to

Okay, I did that and now XvMC works with my Geforce4 MX 420.

I have a few slightly OT questions, though:
Is it normal for the OSD to be gray instead of the blue it is with XvMC

Also, whenever I do a pause/play, ff/rewind, or commercial skip, the
picture is jumpy for a few seconds then resumes normal playback. Is this
an issue with my slightly older video card, or is this "normal" with XvMC?

Thank you.

I agree. I tried changing the font size in setup and it didn't appear
to make any difference to anything. I'm using the MythCenter theme if
that makes any difference. Maybe it's a theme support thang?

I had the opposite problem. With the MythCentre theme my fonts were
too big so "Manage Recordings", for example, appeared as "Manage".

I fixed it by editing the menu xml files for that theme. Can't
remember exactly where they were (somewhere in ~/.mythtv/ I think) and
not sure if it works for all themes but you might be lucky.

I never got DisplaySize to have any affect, maybe because I'm using a

So... what's wrong? Why don't the font items in the config menu change
anything? Does it have to do with the environment? I'm running Myth on a
Debian machine using AfterStep as my WM. Aside from font issues, I haven't
had any problems at all.

I agree. I tried changing the font size in setup and it didn't appear
to make any difference to anything. I'm using the MythCenter theme if
that makes any difference. Maybe it's a theme support thang?

Phill

[mythtv-users] BTC 9019URF problems

2005-06-14 Thread Egeekial
Whenever I launch X, my 9019URF gets really weird. Something is wrong
with the repeat rate even if i press a key really fast, I still get
about 10 characters. This isn't the case before I start X, and the
problem goes away if I unplug and replug the receiver.

I didn't do anything to "install" the keyboard the first time. I just
plugged it in, and it worked. Do I need to do something special to get
it to function properly?

Re: [mythtv-users] Black Screen w/PVR-250 caused by overheat

So if they're prone to overheating... why haven't you tried cooling them?

fix this.

If you think you have a heat problem, open the PC and run it until
you have your suspected heat issue. Then spray the suspected
component with freeze spray and view if you have any changes in the
video output. Sometimes you can find intermittent thermal problems
with freeze spray -- not always.

On the other hand, how many people have heat problems with PVRx50s?
It might be something else.

I don't know how many people, but I'll raise my hand here. In the past
2 years I've had 4 PVR-250 cards die due to heat. The 4th one just
gave out a couple weeks ago. First the tuner gets noisy for a month or
so, then I start getting dropout that results in corrupted recordings
and cause commercial detection to crash. Then I buy a replacement.

I'm currently down to 2 cards again and am planning this time to
replace with two PVR-500 cards.

My system is a RedHat9-based Athlon 2600+ in a Gigabyte GA7VT600 MB
with 512MB RAM, watercooled in a 4U rack chassis. The PVR cards get
HOT and are the main source of heat inside the chassis. They seem to
last up to a year. Of the 6 total cards I've had, none of them are
still in service after over 2 years.

YMMV :)

were flagged while the table was corrupted.

Hey, thanx! That worked perfectly for me. All of my old recordings
have their commercial flagging back, and as you stated, recordings
since the table broke need to be reflagged. After reflagging, they
work perfectly, perhaps even better than before the upgrade to 18.1
(from 18).

I'm wondering if turning the 'commercial flagging immediately' (or
whatever it's called) option back on will break it again. Don't have
time to check it right now, but perhaps tonight I can give it a shot.

Who works on the commercial flagging code (Chris Peterson???)? Is
there anyone that might want some log info or something to help track
the problem down if I find that it does re-occur? Let me know...

[mythtv-users] PVR-150MCE line at top of recording

2005-06-07 Thread Egeekial
I just got my PVR-150MCE and installed the ivtv-0.3.6d drivers.
Everything works great except for a few channels that have a "staticy
line" at the top. It looks like something you'd get when playing back
from a VCR. Is there a fix for this, or at least any way to easily cut
the top off?

IIRC the PVR can only detect RC5 remotes. There is a file on the home
page of lirc (http://www.lirc.org) remotes.tar.bz2 that has the codes
of all the currently known remotes.

Unpacking that file and looking in the Sony directory, I do not see any
of your Sony remotes, but grepping them for RC5 only returns one match,
so I would suspect Sony does not use RC5 protocol.

Grepping in the jvc directory for RC5 returns no matches.

I think Philips came up with RC5, there are many matches for it in the
philips directory.

You could get a pretty cheap universal remote from Radio Shack, and
program it to imitate a Philips remote, or Hauppauge have a replacement
remote on their site for $14.95
(http://registration.hauppauge.com/webstore/hardware.asp#remote).

Here, on Canadian (and US) television, as is was said if a shows is 60

acceleration).

On the other hand, I have a Radeon 9700 Pro in my desktop machine, and
the ATI Linux drivers work flawlessly. The ATI drivers even came with a
nice little program to setup your xorg.conf. It's a simple concept, and
I can't understand why NVIDIA doesn't follow suit. It's somewhat of a
pain to have to go through the FAQ to get the xorg.conf setup properly.

What's the log say?

Try sending the errors to a file, so when you reset your machine you
still have something to look at.

[mythtv-users] mythfrontend problems

2005-05-21 Thread Egeekial
Okay, I'm running Slackware 10.0 with kernel 2.4.26, and I compiled
MythTV from source. I got everything setup properly (I think), and I ran
mythbackend without problems. When I launch mythfrontend, though, it
opens, a couple progress bars flash by, and then I'm left with the gray
screen. I can't even use my keyboard at this point to try to kill
mythfrontend or X even.

Thanks,
Morgan McBee
