What I'm not understanding out of this whole ordeal is why, when the frontend was configured to connect to 192.168.1.2, which is within the IP wildcard match, did mythtv convert this to gandalf and make life hard on itself? (and me!) ;-) The only place Gandalf is mentioned, AFAIK, is in /etc/hosts. It's not in Myth's configuration anywhere. i'm not sure about this, either ... it was my first assumption, but testing on my particular network showed that it worked with 192.168.0.% when i didn't have an entry where Host = 'kryten%' (the hostname of my remote frontend is kryten.slacknet.local) ... and without an entry where Host = 'smeg%' (the hostname of my backend is smeg.slacknet.local) ... So the last item then would be how to delete an entry from the table. There's certainly a command for doing that so I'll find it, get stuff cleaned up, and be left with this one little mystery about why it insisted on using a name instead of an IP. DELETE FROM [table_name] WHERE [condition]; depending on what you want to delete ... for deleting users, there are other commands (tho' standard sql commands will work, since the users table is nothing special, just another mysql table), and i'd reccommend using them instead, because they delete stuff properly ... don't know them offhand, tho' (i use phpmyadmin for all user management stuff) 'luck, -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

So I *THINK* that the problem is not necessarily the mythconverg database but just that mysql has stopped allowing me to access mythconverg via the network. There are two reasons I can think of: 1) mysql is not bound to a network IP. I show below that both machines are: yes, this part all looks ok 2) The mythconverg database does not have proper privleges granted for network access. I don't know how to test this fully, but I seem to not be able to access the Gandalf databse correctly as root to set them again. sort of ... it's actually the [EMAIL PROTECTED] user that doesn't ... Mark Knecht wrote: OK, this does work when ssh'ed into the station. But when the MythTV app tries to do much the same it fails with messages similar to the failures above. As I said earlier it I hand edit .mythtv/mysql.txt to use localhost instead of 192.168.1.2 then I can connect and use MythTV: does /sbin/ifconfig show that the machine is using 192.168.1.2? i'm kinda confused ... are you running separate frontend/backend systems or an all inclusive box? this could also be from having two 'mythtv' users in the users table ... No, it's helpful. Possibly the problem is somehow the mysql database is fine but the problem is mysql not binding/listening to the network. That would require changing the grant privledges, I think, but I cannot log in to do so anymore if it was a problem bindging to a port, you wouldn't need mysql root access, only root access to the machine itself ... you might be able to run the following to see if it is setup to only bind locally: grep 'skip-networking' /etc/rc.* there are probably other ways to make it only bind locally, but the --skip-networking option is the one i use ... to make it only bind locally, you would have had to edit files to make it happen, so if you never did that, it's probably not a binding issue :) one thing you could do is this: login however it takes as mythtv ... then, type the following: USE mysql; SELECT Host,User,Password FROM user; it should then spit out a table something like this: +-++--+ | Host| User | Password | +-++--+ | localhost | root | 316f3fab580678dd | | smeg| root | | | localhost || | | smeg|| | | localhost | mythtv | 0476fc026afffe24 | | 192.168.0.% | mythtv | 0476fc026afffe24 | +-++--+ check to make sure that if there are multiple rows where User == 'mythtv' that the passwords are exactly the same ... this will at least help explain that issue ... as far as re-gaining root access, someone already posted the link that had instructions ... -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] Can't mute, can't change 6cg AC3 volume, audio volume shift on play
Stuff that's thoroughly broken: 5.1 AC3 playback on DVD's or DVD rips - the volume control doesn't do squat. Minimum volume is exactly the same as maximum volume, and I have to get up and us the darned speaker knob to change the volume - which means I have to get up again and unchange it when my video is done playing, or whenever I just want to change the volume ( which is very often ). exactly! this is how it's supposed to work ... AC3 pass-through does exactly that: passes through without being touched ... think line-out on a stereo ... volume, EQ, etc don't effect it ... what i do on my system is set the non-AC3 stuff to a decent volume (around 75%, iirc) and only use my surround sound system's receiver to control the volume (i don't even have the vol+/- buttons on my remote mapped to anything) -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Of course, this is all conjecture with no evidence to support it, so... that's what i thought, but i have done my best to be extremely careful about how i press and it doesn't seem to make a difference ... strangely, it seems that it most likely does it when the ending screen is the shutdown screen ... and i can reproduce that quite often ... and for me, it's only the power button that does it :S Neither do I, but then again, I just recently upgraded to 0.7.0 final and haven't had time to play with the new stuff, yet. So, maybe we both should have it... I plan to play around with repeat, delay, and min_repeat. I'll let you know if I improve things... i did with some things (since my 4yo son was having a hell of a time navigating the menus in Monsters, Inc. with the repeat rate too fast) (BTW, did your 0.7.0pre lircd.conf stop working with 0.7.0 final? I had to re-program my remote with irrecord because all the codes changed... ???) not positive on that, but i *think* it did ... something about the prefix, not the entire number, iirc, but i did that around the time of changing from kernel-2.4.x to kernel-2.6.x ... will soon (hopefully) be reinstalling that machine with gentoo instead, so i'll get to try a lot of this stuff from scratch (well, obviously i'll back up settings, but i may see if starting clean w/ lirc stuff helps my case any) -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] movies on data cd/dvd
iirc, in 0.16 or 0.17 the movies listed in the movie library were only ones that were currently accessible to the system at the time of entering the movie library... ie: - let's say UHF.avi and RedDwarf-S01E01.avi are burned on a CD. - I insert that CD and either mount it manually, have automount take care of it, whatever, it's mounted - I go to the movie library and there i see RedDwarf-S01E01.avi and UHF.avi - I do the IMDB search, update info, etc, etc, now i have metadata and covers - I unmount and eject cd - On returning to the movie library, those movies no longer appear, BUT on returning to the movie manager, they do appear (and i'm not prompted to remove them like in 0.18) Right now, I have tons of movies listed in the movie library that might or might not be play-able at any given moment, but no way of knowing that the UHF.avi movie listed requres me to put in a CD ... is there any way to go back to the old way? am i missing something as far as why the new way is better? before it was all automated and i didn't have to do anything when i re-inserted the CD ... covers, metadata and all were with the movies and it was really slick thanks! -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

For example, while running irw I get output like this: [crazy code] 00 PLAY niveus [crazy code] 01 PLAY niveus It does that for nearly all of the buttons with one very quick and light press. Not too much of a problem since I have a decent repeat time in my lircrc file, but when I hit the exit button sometimes it will take me back two screens in the MythTV frontend. Any ideas why it might be doing this? seeing that in the output of irw is normal (based on testing i've done with multiple remotes) ... iirc i read that some remotes do that, assuming that one of the signals will be lost due to human error, distance to receiver, blockage, etc ... however, all the keys work fine for me *except* the exit button (i'm using the ATI Remote Wonder with the Power button mapped to exit) ... occasionally, it will skip past the main menu and go to the shutdown screen when i hit power, as if i've hit it twice (but i didn't, and this has been tested many, many times) ... not sure what's causing it, but it is really annoying ... a workaround i've found is to use the left arrow to go back a menu instead, which seems to work more reliably on my ATI -g- ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
