DST can be a pain for any clock!
Among the many clocks I've built or bought, the MOD-SIX clock seems to have the
most complete DST tables for fully unattended time changes.   The manual
one-button DST on clocks from PV Electronics are probably the most future proof
AND are convenient to use with no manuals required.

of complication). Do you know if your board exhibits the same issue with
time zones east of UTC, where the clock emits a constant beep on 01
January from 00:00 until it reaches the time offset? I'm in South
Australia (so southern hemisphere, +9:30, with DST, making my offset
+10:30 for New Year), and my Nixichron beeps from 00:00 until 10:30
(and, from memory, only displays colons for the duration) - obviously
this means that I need to turn it off before 00:00 and can't turn it
back on until after 10:30. I assume it can't handle the fact that time
seemingly in error, however it would hardly be an issue if it just
handled the condition silently!

Thanks in advance,

Re: [neonixie-l] Jeff Thomas Nixie Clock

2016-10-06 Thread Greg P
John,

It truly is about as basic of a clock as you can get. Yes, it's almost
impossible to set the seconds accurately. I'm sure it's why Jeff came out
with his NixiSat/NixiChron/GPSII series of clocks which were a big
improvement in features and functionality.

I like it mostly because it was Jeff's first design and what started it all
for his Nixie endeavors.

Hi Mitch,
I'd be interested in one of your boards for the Nixichron, if you still
have any left.

You mention in the other thread that you have used a much more traditional

Re: [neonixie-l] Jeff Thomas Nixie Clock

2016-10-06 Thread Quixotic Nixotic
I built one of these as my first clock and it was horrendous. It's almost
impossible to set the time with a magnet without overshooting. I found it was
better to split the hours and minutes, because otherwise if you overshoot the
minutes setting it clocks the hours on.

I also found the CMOS very sensitive to stray noise and would often find the
time had changed spontaneously.
