Hi, The site for the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton, West sussex looks OK in Firefox on the PC but just displays a grey window in Netsurf. With JS off, it starts to display a background image but soon gives up. Probably has too much Javascript for NS to handle. Just thought I'd mention it. The aconet website, which is the home of Fetch_NS has a little bit of Dutch at the top & has the brilliant CrypStore, which I know is one of his apps. http://aconet.org/tools/index.php On delving a bit further into Fetch_NS, I need to alter the settings file to tell it where my Netsurf is stored to make it work best. Yes. That happens here. It recognises !Bubble help by Miles Sabin (distributed by David Pilling), !Float by someone called Steve Fryatt !!! as well as the Acorn !Help. However, I'm constantly getting the same effect on my RiscPC that Netsurf won't recognise them from the iconbar. I can only use after accessing them through the Netsurf menu. I tried removing everything I could from the icon bar to see if anything was clashing but to no avail. Short of de-populating my "Run" & "Boot" lists in Configuration ( a somewhat time consuming task), I may never know the cause. I'll live with it. I've discovered all the Help applications work as expected on my PC running Virtual Acorn & that has many of the same apps loaded at startup. I must be in a Bermuda Triangle or on a Ley Line or something. Just have to leave it unexplained. Not a biggy. Thanks for your replies. If anyone replicates the problem or finds the answer at some future point I'd be interested to know. Regards to all a a big thanks to all the developers who are working so hard. -- Chris

What exactly doesn't work? Sorry. I must have been imprecise. I loaded !Help from the Apps folder so that it is on the icon bar & working correctly on my desktop. However, hovering over the Netsurf page produced no helpful little bubbles. Yet today, I tried loading !Help from the Netsurf page help menu instead & it worked perfectly. I'm thinking it must be something blocking it on my machine. I will investigate further & report back. Interactive help
In the Netsurf help documentation it says thus. "Instant on-line help is available throughout the software, in the form of interactive help. This offers quick help information, in bullet point format, about the item under the pointer. To use interactive help, suitable software must be running. The program 'Help' is shipped with all RISC OS computers and it can be run from NetSurf's Help > Interactive helpmenu item." However, I can't get it to work here. Re-direct problem?
Hi folks, The Museum of Bath at Work has a website, the URL of which has changed over the years. The old URL still works with Netsurf. http://www.paulbg.com/bathatwork/ However, the following new one given in their literature does not. http://www.bath-at-work.org.uk I get the error message "transfer closed with outstanding read data remaining." It seems to involve a re-direct to http://www.bathatwork.co.uk/ Both these latter URLs work OK in Phoenix, Oregano2 & Browse with WebServe on my RiscPC & Firefox on my PC so it must be a glitch peculiar to Netsurf. Can anyone replicate this behaviour? Any ideas about what is going on? Regards, -- Chris Newman

I Use one of the many macro progs that are available for RiscOS. !Tags by Thomas Baldwin is good. Can't find a current link for that but I can send you a copy. It's freeware. !Makro - David Thomas & !TextAid - Alan Wrigley will do the same. Again, if you can't find 'em, I have copies. You can keep one of these apps on your desktop with the usernames & passwords. Then it's a quick few clicks & a scroll to insert what you need. If security is a problem, keep em in an encrypted file on the desktop then one password gets all. Stephen Sloan's !Encrypt will do that & there are probably others. Hope this helps, -- Chris
